Hurricane Isaac Approaching

As of 1500 today central time,the leading edge is about 50 miles SSE of us, will start getting some weather tonight, one of the two computer models that they use the ECMWT shows it coming ashore as a cat 2 early Wed. morning with the eye moving over the top of my home on Perdido Key. We have been getting hit regularly here since before there were people here, we will be fine. Just saw the model again, they have it heading right straight up Perdido Bay.

Thank you, this year they have developed two computer weather wave models, one american and one european that they say are the most accurate ever. The american model shows the eye going ashore just west of New Orleans and the European model putting the eye over my home and up Perdido bay. We take all of the precautions though because it has become standard operating procedure over the years to take no chances.
 
Having lived in Houston most of my life, I know SOP with hurricanes. That was one big reason I moved up here --- got tired of packing up "just in case".

We have a very safe cement home 58 feet above sea level so our families have never left and have always been secure even through the really bad ones. I was posting or watching tv while Ivan Dennis Katrina Freddy Camille Andrew and the rest of the bad ones came through. Glad you got out of Hurricane central though. Have a good evening.

Isaac will hit on Wednesday morning, August 29th... seven years to the day after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.

Thats not true, since I live through them year after year I can say the most dreaded words connected to a hurricane are "a hurricane is bearing down on your ass" it doesnt matter where you are on the coast. We have had hurricane warnings posted here since 6 this morning. I have watched them in years past on the computer and tv as the eye passed over my house. Its not a lot of fun and you never and I mean never know where the hell they are going to go because they are unstable and change direction many times. One model says New Orleans the other Perdido Bay but it may wind up in Texas or Mexico and its easy for people that have only seen one on tv to trivialize the experience.

I said six OF the most dreaded words. A hurricane hitting New Orleans, even a Cat 2, is worse than a hurricane hitting Florida and Katrina is proven evidence of that. 1,833 killed.

Just announced that we will have tornado warnings as early as midday tomorrow from the forward bands of weather from the storm.
 
Hunter planes just confirmed TS Isaac is leaning a little more to the east than expected, may be the european model that puts it in Perdido Bay is closer to right about the landfall. We'll see.

The latest models are shifting west though, including the European models.

Look up the path of the ECMWF graphic model- also known as the european model, its still as of 3 minutes ago putting it up Perdido Bay. All of those thread models are unofficial models, only the American graphic model and European graphic model are official according the weather service. I hope it dies a slow death in the gulf but that wont happen. Anyone on the gulf coast is in jeopardy, Perdido Key, New Orleans, somewhere its going to cause a lot of harm, this aint a nascar race this is real.

I give up TRL, I'm too old and too tired to try to keep a serious thread going on here with the constant baiting. You have been in Hurricane situations many times so you, unlike many others on here, know what its actually like. I have tried to post what is actually going on with the storm here and now. The American models projected landfall is still just west of New Orleans and the European model has moved a little to the west and as of 2 minutes ago is expected to landfall in Gulfport Ms. This storm has or will effect the entire states of Florida Al. Ms. and La.

As you know its just a pain in the butt having to change plans and do all of the preparations and then a couple of weeks of cleanup, but my family has been here since the 1780s so I aint goin anywhere.

Yep, a settlement of Norwegians on the hills around P,cola perdido and Mobile bays, of course like everybody else around here we are also a mixture of English Irish and scottish now. You should see the original family bible. Most people dont know that we have cliffs on P,cola and Mobile bays reaching over two hundred feet tall. Like I said earlier our home is fifty eight feet above sea level so we will be fine.
 
We now have Hurricane Isaac. I don't think the ranking matters (Ts, Cat 1, Cat 2) -- the 15 foot surge and 20 inches of rain does matter.
 
Oh no, New Orleans is on the dirty side. There's no concern about the levees but there is concern about the pumps. And they're expecting flooding rain.
 
We are getting 40-45 mph gusts and should not get much if any worse. Rain has been intermittent but heavy at times but shouldnt cause any problems even though we are on the dirty side of it. We are fortunate that it is not as strong as first thought. Its not over yet but we are breathing somewhat easier.

I'm not worried about the levees in New Orleans. I'm worried about the pumps. The pumps can only handle an inch of rain an hour, New Orleans is going to get four inches of rain an hour.

Even though Katrina was stronger than Isaac, New Orleans "dodged a bullet" with Katrina. Isaac is a direct hit.

The shipping company I worked for as a captain for 42 yrs is based in New Orleans. I talked to the powers that be of the Co. today and they said the pumps were many times stronger than the ones of the Katrina era. They said that with the new levees, gates, pumps and pumping systems they have complete faith in the new system and I have more faith in their words than the media.

You were on here screaming about the people killed by Katrina and now you say they dodged a damn bullet. What about the 1800 plus dead. I am at a complete loss of freakin words.

Katrina hit Biloxi, MS. If it had actually hit New Orleans, head on, there'd probably be several thousand dead.

New Orleans is like 15 feet underwater as it is.
