Hurricane Sandy

My biggest worry is people won't take this storm seriously because of Irene last year. Everyone panicked about Irene and it turned out to be no big deal. Some people aren't going to realize this isn't the same scenario.

I just hope this storm won't be as bad as expected as well.

Maybe it was no big deal in Texas, but us Yankees had our share of problems with Irene. No power for day's on end, no gas for generators, streets impassable [tree limbs],NO BEER after the third day. I've seen my share of storms, from the Blizzard of '78 , Hurricane Bob, and numerous others. Panick is for the unprepared, undisciplined, and shortsighted. I am not Panicking. And I have PLENTY of Beer and Cash on hand. Two great bartering tools in time of crisis.

Man, don't barter your staples.

Seems overnight about half the leaves in trees were blown off. That's great! Less leaves=a less chance of the tree dropping limbs or toppling.

I'm hoping this storm isn't going to be as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Here in New York City, they are looking to plan to shut down all the public transportation starting at 7pm tonight but they are going to confirm it sometime today.

I was suppose to go see Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow in Brooklyn but I'm not going to go risk getting stuck there and not being able to get back if there is no pt and if the winds are really that bad the bridges will be closed to.

IMO, no one has to make this out to be anything. It's there.

Every New England state has declared a emergency, except for Mr MaGoo, the gov of RI

I was put on call up by FEMA yesterday. This is the first time I have ever been put on standby before a weather related event.

I wish all of you people out east the best.

Just saw this picture of the James River Bridge in Newport News, VA. Bridge has been closed for a while, but looks like it's damn near under water.

CNN just had film of Narragansett, RI. Ocean road is closed as there's a foot plus of water on it. The PD station is a block away and it's being sandbagged. Yes it's a old photo, best I could find on short notice. They expect 4 to 6 feet plus whatever the wave height is

I've seen a few ugly pictures from up that way this morning. Y'all stay safe up there.

Landfall expected in the next hour or two. FOX is saying that NYC dodged a bullet because landfall will come before high tide -- however, the storm surge is almost always on the right side of the storm in a hurricane.

I have family in Cape May, NJ. They've heeded the warnings. They secured their home and have moved inland to stay with other family. Stay safe east coasters.

When people wake up in the morning and turn on the morning news, they will remember where they were. This was the big one.

SST55's picture is looking a lot more realistic after seeing what NYC looks like.

I'm pretty sure I've been on that bridge before. It looks really familiar. My brother spent several years in Portsmouth when he was in the Navy. We visited him and his family pretty regularly.
