If Kenseth Wins It All

I don't think anyone is debating Kyle's grit (at this time, at least). We're not pleased with a system that lets someone miss as many races as he did and still be champion, regardless of the reason he was out.

And as far as the Kenseth issue, I think it would be way cool if he won the Cup Championship and then simply retired.

Don't know for a fact, but I'm pretty sure that it's never happened before.

I'm good with that :)

Then we're back to my question: what was your point?
Was not responding to your request as to my point. So what is your point?

That those that you have referred to, might have retired due to their own decisions, and not based on the sanctioning bodies marketing strategy?

Truly believe that Jeff Gordon decision was partially marketing motivated, but also had other factors like declining ability, possibly due to losing motivation, as JJ became the top dog. The others ran out of ability as time went by, and became less and less factors within the races they ran. NASCAR will never allow another Harry Gant, Bobby Allison, or even a Richard Petty all of which won races way beyond their prime.

Anyone find it odd that Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, and possibly Matt Kenseth are gone? What is the common thread?
You asked what the common threat is.

Did you mean something other than that they all started their national touring careers with Jack Roush? If your common thread, do you think that's significant of something?

If that wasn't the common thread you were referring to, what other significant commonality are you referring to?

Yes they did, and that is a common thread, but never blamed Jack as someone alluded to. That might just be a coincidence, not a reason. Biffle was handicapped with a declining team, possibly so was Carl. Which just happened to occur when Kenseth left Roush...wonder if that had anything to do with their ability??? Then again, Roush let Kurt slip away and did not have interest in keeping Jeff Burton. Should have kept Mark Martin around too, not necessarily as a driver though.

And now that Kurt is out, really want to see Matt pull it off

So I'm still wondering if you had a point when you brought up the topic.

... and whether that common thread is the reason.
Ah. I missed that.

Kenseth is being let go by Gibbs because a champion of his experience has to be paid more than young Jones. I don't see a Roush effect in his departure.

Edwards left because he'd come in 2nd with two different teams and had enough. I suspect the Chase format played a larger role in his displeasure than his Roush experience; that was behind him.

You can make a case that Biffle left because of the deterioration of Roush-Fenway Racing, combined with a veteran's pay expectations that any team interested in him was unable / unwilling to meet.

Is it just irony that they all came from the Roush stable?
I don't know what irony has to do with this, but it is just coincidence. That was the point of my list of drivers who have left or are leaving the Hendrick stable. Drivers leave all the time. When you've been around as long as Roush and Hendrick, fielding as many as five cars at a time, it's easy to come up with a list of drivers who started there and left the sport.

The other side of the coin is that Roush brought those drivers up through the ranks. Kenseth and Kurt Busch picked up Cup titles, and Biffle has Truck and Busch championships. Who's to say those drivers would have accomplished that with other teams?
