I'm already sick of the chase and it hasn't started yet.

It seems to me that the drivers that aren't in the chase, are very careful not to race the chase guys too hard. It's almost like they stay out of the way of chase drivers on purpose. They don't want to get blamed, for ruining a chase drivers chance at the championship.

If no one was watching, the ratings would of been 0.0, not mention that there were at least few people at the track watching the race, oh, yeah, I was watching the race too.

That was the lowest rated race at Richmond in fifteen years, and I have a feeling these chase races won't draw flies either. The caution clock is coming in 2017 boys, believe it.

Hi guys, been a lurker on the forum for a few years now, and a NASCAR fan since the early 90s. I'm not a fan of the current chase format, I thought the original version of the chase was ok, not great but I understand why it was done to a degree. Under the pre-chase system the main complaint as we all know was that winning a race didn't provide a large enough reward compared to finishing 2nd and on back. All that had to be done was keep the old format but give 2nd place 175 pts for example but give the race winner say 250 pts. Winning a race would give you a gain of at least 75 pts on every other driver in the field. But that would of been too easy I guess.
Welcome Johnny G

Comparing Nascar to say college basketball , it's likely not a bad system . Comparing Nascar to any other racing series in the world , it kinda smells.

Dude! Welcome to the asylum. Check your mind at the door.

KENSETH!

Excuse me; I had something caught in my throat.

Thanks Charlie,
This Chase is all Matt's fault!
Lol bet you've never heard that before.
That's one thing I've learned from lurking. That and Mark Martin eon the 2007 Daytona 500 and 1990 Winston Cup.

JMO, but the I think the "no one is watching" comment was spoken metaphorically as opposed to literally.

Have no problem with the wave around. Before the driver in the lead would sometimes almost stop to let the one he wanted get around to pass. This way it is just another piece of the strategy.

An easy way to deal with that is to freeze the field once the yellow flies and then let the boys and girls line up on the left at the restart and earn their lap back.

I don't know. Another fact ... Cup race viewer numbers routinely outnumber all other race series numbers combined.

That is like calling an unwell patient healthy only because the other patients are in hospice.

People give many reasons for the decline in Nascar but the 2 faves that seemed to have been settled on are the economy and fad fans. JMO but the economy should not impact the viewership from home and Nascar has lost well over half its audience and that represents a much bigger loss than just fad fans.

Possible fact: the majority of those no longer watching Richmond's September races are dead.

Your point sounds reasonable to me as given Nascar has a fan base where over half it's followers are 55+ a large number would have assumed room temp over the last 10 years who really knows how many?

When asked why he and his teammates no longer went to a particular NY nightclub after ballgames, Yogi Berra supposedly responded by saying, "The place is so crowded now that nobody goes there anymore."

Oh, yeah; you're gonna fit in around here really well.
