IMSA 2018

I've seen sportscar racing boom and crash so many times that I was about ready to give up all hope we would ever have a table sport, but I think we are really on to something this time. Back in the DTP days, there were rarely 20 prototypes in the Rolex. Now we've got 20 and at last count it looks like 16 of those will finish the year, with Jackie Chan and Rebellion coming back for the enduros. I can't remember the last time we has this kind of season long interest in the series, even in the GTP days.

So, yeah, I was ready to spend the whole weekend in front of the tube but it looks like I will have to kill another week to get there!
 
Biggest class next weekend? GS with 31 cars. There were as few as 4 cars and no more than 10 in any one race in 2016 and look at where we are now. The Conti series is back.

I was running with 2 of the IMSA haulers yesterday coming across I-10 in Florida, and today a few of the haulers stopped to fuel at the travel plaza I'm staying across from. One of them was the Rahal hauler. There has been a lot of the Monster Supercross haulers coming from Daytona Beach stopping in for fuel also.
 
I wonder if IMSA has considered adding David Hobs to the broadcast team. They would be crazy not to. Hobbs very flatly stated that he is not ready to retire.

The Rolex coverage was pretty decent except they kept skipping between stations. I don't know what would be wrong with leaving it on one station for , I dunno, say the entire race.

I do think with Hobbs' extensive sportscar racing and TV commentary experience he would be an excellent addition to the broadcast team, even if they brought him in just for a little color commentary. I think it would be a shame to let his talent go to waste. While we are at it, bring in Brian Redman to tell a story or two.
 
I'm speaking for myself, I don't get FS2 or the Go deal. It's tougher to find a stream with this race compared to the Rolex. I might get lucky, but I want to watch the race and I am not positive that is going to happen.

As long as you get FS1 from your TV provider you can stream the whole thing on FOX Sports Go.
 
I just typed in CimTel..duhhhh, I'll try again this time with renewed vigor.:rolleyes: Looks like I might be able to get it, I have to jump thru a couple of hoops yet..thanks FL.
 
I want to get excited about Mazda again...but I can't. Not until they finish a race longer than six hours without issues. It is good to see they have pace though. The DPis seemed to be pretty even throughout the day too.

About the only time we saw a Mazda at the Rolex was literally when the wheels were falling off or the car was busting into flames. Considering this was Joest who had tested the car for thousands of miles with no issues, well, I sure didn't see that coming. I read that Joest tested the car hard and over long distances, and all they had to do was change the tires and put fuel in it. Then they take it to Daytona and the cars simply fell apart. Go figure.I don't have an explanation.

However, they were among the fastest during part of the night, so at least the pace is there. Tonight didn't completely surprise anyone. It would be nice for Mazda to have some success, both for them and for the series too.
 
***Briscoe said the tricky Sebring circuit has proven to be a much bigger challenge to get up to speed than his Continental Tire Challenge debut at Daytona in January. Briscoe, who made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut last month, said the Sebring surface is even rougher than what he saw at one of NASCAR’s bumpiest tracks in Atlanta in February. The Indiana native indicated he enjoys racing on rough tracks because it brings him back to his roots racing on dirt.
