Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Since we’re all in the holiday spirit of “waiting for something” I literally can’t wait to dunk on those who have been shooting down the rumors of the Wilkesboro resurrection when the day comes it is in fact announced as reopening. And I’m not even a I told you so guy, but for this instance I’ll be that guy. I’ll also meet up and buy you a adult beverage at the first race back there

The Charlotte oval test, discontent from drivers, the inability to pass. There are rumblings in the garage that NASCAR may be ready to say "**** it" and go 750 with a 3 inch spoiler.
Just think, you can cry all year just like you did this year, Thanks, they went down to 670 max.

I don't doubt something positive will happen on that piece of property. I see no reason to think a Cup date is likely.

Now that it looks like the fairgrounds is going to happen the next question is do we still go to Nashville twice in the same season? The speedway and the fairgrounds?

It's just throttled down with a tapered spacer at the moment correct? My biggest thing is more HP doesn't necessarily mean more ability to pass, we saw this at places like Darlington & Dover last year. To be honest I think 670 is a solid place to start with symmetric cars

Probably just move Nashville SS to the Fairgrounds, but who knows. Maybe they’ll move a Dover race & NSS race for 2 Fairgrounds races?

So many Dover doomsdayers need to support Dover more.

I mean....who expected the state to set aside $40 million in funds for race tracks....

Give me $40m I'll build whatever the **** you want, and you can say "I told you so" and piss in my face while you're at it.

If the Smiths wanted a half-mile dirt track in Charlotte Motor Speedway's back yard, they'd enlarge the one that's already there.
Two things here. One, they don't want yet another race in the Charlotte area. Two, even if they did, the track is relatively flat and would not produce good racing for 3400lb stock cars.

It’s kinda ridiculous if they don’t bring NASCAR top 3 series lol. Better get some good racing events or good concerts or good driving experiences.

turn Chicagoland Speedway into Bristol North. Then you can say you told me so ha ha. But I get your point like Wilkesboro and Rockingham are getting this money, it would make sense to me that something big is going to happen at either or both places.

This video is really rad just premiered last week I believe but if you watch it through you hear and see the turn one bleachers are being cleared out. The YouTuber asked the track worker in the vid what is going on and the fellow sheepishly said "We're Building a Party Deck in Turn 1" and quickly changed the subject. I dont think a Party Deck is being built for a ARCA/Xfinity/Trucks weekend. Maybe I'm wrong. I think its time to come to grips with that fact that these places have a shot of seeing big time racing again and thats a great thing, its more variety of tracks that people can see these next gen cars race on which we dont know how well they will race on tracks this size. I think the big unknown is kind of something that I am eagerly anticipating with both the car and these tracks, I think its okay for people like myself to be excited about

Sounds much more favorable than before at least:

No problem with the Mayor and one councilman who is a racing fan. Go Zach Young

“In keeping with the national profile that Nashville Soccer Club is bringing to the Fairgrounds in 2022, this innovative partnership will bring our historic speedway back to life as a crown jewel in the world of motor sports,” said Mayor Cooper. “No other city has professional soccer and NASCAR side by side. Our Fairgrounds will be a unique asset for Nashville’s future. I look forward to working with Bristol, the State of Tennessee, the Fair Board, the Sports Authority and the Council on this proposal.”

“I grew up going to the Fairgrounds Speedway with my dad on Friday nights, listening to him work as a spotter for racers like Andy Kirby and Steadman Marlin. It would be my honor to sponsor legislation that brings NASCAR back to Nashville and restores the track into something that our whole county can be proud of again,” said Zach Young, District 10 Metro Councilmember.

That's a shame. Those were the best seats, at least as far as watching a race goes.

I've been frequently reminded that these facilities will make money by hosting events other than racing. I don't see a party deck as indicative of any race date, much less a Cup one. For that matter, I don't view reducing the seating as a good sign either.

plenty of NASCAR tracks have right-sized their seating the last few years, I dont think this instance is necessarily an omen of good or bad. I dont disagree that a track might need to have other events going on other than racing to make additional revenue streams, thats not a bad theory at all. I also am not going to speculate about a party deck that may end up being installed..........my previous post might have jumped the gun on that one but if it is in fact being installed or other amenities improvements being installed as well to the facility I would take it as a good sign for SOME bigger series going to be racing there.

My apologies if these were posted already. but the amusing thing is folks were complaining about these buildings being torn down (The Charm of the track is being taken away!!), which I found incredible because......those buildings cant be used anymore. Shows you truly cant make everyone happy.

You're kidding? Those were either a building inspector's nightmare or Viagra, I don't know which.
Yea check out the comments under the tweets. and check out the subtweets, I couldnt believe people would complain about that.

There was a site I saw some time ago where a guy was able to get some incredible access into all area's of the track. Trust me, the buildings they are tearing down were in absolutely awful shape. If I can find it again, I'll share some pics from his site that showed the inside of some of these buildings.

Here we go

Rogers said early indications were that NASCAR, which is at a crossroads as it tries to appeal to a younger and more diverse audience, was poised to make inroads with new fans in car-centric Southern California.

"Of the tickets sold to date, over 50% of those are going to be first-time attendees to a NASCAR race," he said.

I am very excited for the Coliseum race, if its successful this will open up a few new possibilities for the schedule

NASCAR at Camp Nou

NASCAR at Estadio Azteca (without the projectiles, hopefully)

I'd be fine with an international race at any of these fine stadiums across the world

I like short tracks as much as anyone here but there is such a thing as too short
contempt prior to investigation. So far they are putting the idea out there. I could see them doing that for the Nascar Euro series if the interest and $ is there. I think the mericans would tire easily if the have too many "coliseums" in the schedule. I'm that way on the small tracks already. They already have a number of series racing the smaller tracks in the East and most of them are struggling to stay in business

See the Gateway Nationals for dirt late models held last weekend. They raced inside the dome.
How many cars in the largest field, how many laps in the longest race, and were there green flag pit stops?

I was implying 'too small for a 'normal 40-car Cup field with competitive pitting and no scheduled track maintenance once the race starts'. Ya know, a regular Cup race. My apologies if that wasn't clear.

The LA race will be like watching street stocks at a 1/5th mile track I go to...it's entertaining, in small doses.

Every sport and their mother wants to "expand into international and more diverse markets". It's the official go-to for whatever firm does market research for whatever sport. Some of it's good some of it's bad. One American football game in England....sure. F1 visiting countries with backwards views on human rights and massively corrupt governments...not so much.

You were talking about tracks being too small. I was providing a recent example of racing on a track too small. I don't call that racing.
