Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

Whats the problem? you get 5 Races in 3 days

Because driving back and forth to the track 2 days in a row and dealing the traffic 2 days in a row is idiotic. Granted we would do it for trips back in the day when Busch races were drawing as much as cup these days but that's a vacation. Pocono draws from day trippers from the metro areas.

They're paying NASCAR more money than even the title sponsor.
for how ever long that lasts.... arnt they supposed to renegotiate soon? We'll see if NASCAR can get more money from the networks than they are getting now.

I wonder if the second-leg of the Pocono double-header will start based on the first-leg finishing order? They won't have time (nor does it make sense) to have a second qualifier.

They have been doing double headers in the K&N pro series west for a few years a couple years for the east series and the Pintys series. The way they do it, the fastest lap of each car during Race 1 is their qualifying time.
Not sure cup will do it that way though

I've done that to catch the supporting races for decades.

To think, Nashville Fairgrounds and Rockingham are likely returning in 2021 and Iowa is likely to be added.
C'mon, put your money where your mouth is. I'll tell you what, your $20 against my buying you a top-row ticket at the Rock if it's on the 2021 schedule. Same offer as a separate bet for 2022.

Who wants make the 2-4 hour drive two days in a row? There's no hotels or infrastructure near Pocono. The nearest practical places to stay are in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area or the Lehigh Valley so you're still driving an hour plus to the track each day. I don't get who's going to be be attending both races. Especially if they're both compressed distances.

I have some good ties thanks to my job. I'm interested to see how this is playing with some of our local politicians and with the local business movers and shakers. This will definitely be noticed in Harrisburg.

Why do you think they'll be compressed distances? Also does Pocono not have camp sites?

Just you wait until they announce the new NBC IndyCar Playoff in May.
dear god, Indy Car is my safe haven ha ha . If they announce an Indy Car playoff instead of a season long points format like they have now........... I'll be only left with F1 where the most exciting part of the weekend is qualifying day on Saturday's.

Pits are moving outside the track at Bristol and it's becoming a roval, the second Daytona race will be on the beach, and they're doing a street race in London. Oh, and the cutoff race will be contested on iRacing.
they're going to race through a part of Bristol then out into the area around hence the oval. Kind of like the F1 Mexican Grand Prix where they race through the baseball stadium.

They do. I'm not going to camp there and deal with the drunktards for the weekend. I'll be shocked if the distances aren't shortened.

I'm only half-joking because there actually are supposed to be two "game-changer" announcements made in May, and with NBC now having the entire TV contract...

I guess its how bad do you want it. We used to drive from MB to Rockingham, do the Busch race go home, then drive back Sunday for the Cup race.

I just drove nearly 1,000 miles this weekend from Northeast PA to Martinsville, VA. I've been to over 100 cup races. I have great passion for this sport but the end is coming. I do believe this will be a death nail for Pocono which saddens me....

NBC just might pay the same or more. They've gone all the way in on motorsports and it's paid off for them, just like it paid off for Fox before and TNN before that and ESPN before that.

My media credentials don't need tickets. ;)

Governor Cooper didn't just pour $8 million into that track because he felt like wasting money.

Yeah, that makes sense if most people aren’t staying in the area. Although an hour drive doesn’t seem that big of a deal. How do people do it on regular weekends when the Saturday event is Xfinity or trucks?

The attendance at Xfinity or trucks is rather poor like it is most places these days. I've never attended one there because I have no interest in driving down to see it knowing I'm going to the Cup next day. My dad and I use to go to qualifying on Friday when that was drawing 40k. I wasn't driving then and there was a day in between.

It just forces people to camp at the track which isn't going to happen.

I’d prepare for it. Miles is allegedly a playoff guy. New TV partner makes the most sense to debut one. (Sorry for the OT tangent)
Indy Car's season doesnt need a playoff, 4 or 5 guys are usually in it until the end. Man that sucks I hope its not true..... that might finally finish off Robin Miller.

If they insist on keeping Chicagoland's date in the dead of summer, the least they could do is make it a Saturday night race.

That was the whole point of installing lights there several years ago.

Then it sunk in that Saturday night races attract lower viewership, thus the networks don't want them.

The Pocono double header sounds like it could be good, as the Martinsville night race and Bristol being in the chase. I'm not a fan of Daytona loosing it's summer date in favor of Indy or the finale being moved to Phoenix though.
