Is the #14 team that bad?

Or is Tony just not the same driver he was before his accident? Yes, he always starts slow early in the season but nothing like this. Kurt has a win, Kevin is the fastest car most every week and even Danica has shown some strength here and there. Tony on the other hand...........nothing.

I read somewhere that his leg is still not 100% healed so that may be distracting him. Or maybe he's giving Danica his cars lol

Tony always starts slow, but never this slow. I don't know if he can overcome this one. But, in this new format, you can have 1 win and 25 lousy races and still make the Chase, and this weekend is the race where he got his win last year.

Who is Tony's crew chief now? Seems like he has a new CC every year

Its hard not to blame his leg for his performance.... Maybe he is afraid to "push it" because his accident is still on his mind. Like Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder . He has been in a lot of hairy wrecks so I cant imagine that's it but just saying.

It seemed up until the last couple of points races that the #4 was the only SHR team that really has good pace. The #10 looks to be coming along a little but it's not like Kurt has been fast either. Outside of Martinsville and Fontana his best result at a non-plate track is 23rd at Richmond, and he's qualified inside the Top 10 at non-plate tracks only twice.

Probably too much new personnel too quickly there. They were at only a pair of cars two years ago so it'll take a while to get everything sorted out. Harvick was fortunate enough to land an established crew chief well before last season even ended.

Tony wasn't exactly tearing it up last year before his injury. He lucked out on winning the Dover race. When he doesn't run well, he's usually involved with a woman. I don't think he is now though.

I think tony has not healed AND I think the 14 car is sucking. Tony is getting older. by the time his leg heals totally which will be next season his career as a major player will be waning.

give gives his good cars to danica and harv and sometimes kurt

A lot of drivers slowed down after a bad wreck and many lost their rides because of it. Tony being an owner/driver can hang on to his ride. At some point I hope he can turn things around. Otherwise he'll have to call himself into the office when his contract comes up.

I think its getting the car set up to go fast, rather than Tony being hurt. He's one of the best drivers out there so I don't believe it's anything to do with him. He also has 3 other cars that he needs to make sure performs well too.

thanks.
thought it was higher.
thinkin of last champ yr i guess.
He has only 6 wins in the first twelve races of the year so the summer stretch has always been good to him. If he doesn't pick it up by the final bye week in July it'll really be time to worry.

prolly most relevant fact in this thread.

Owner/driver issue. I learned 30+ years ago that owner/driver combos are not ideal in just about anything with a motor!

I learned in 2011 not to ever underestimate Tony Stewart.

I try to sometimes... I have to bug my Dad about it.. but I know he can pop up at the front any time and win any race.

I'm not sure if something is wrong but until he retires I'll never count him out for the championship until the numbers do.

John Force may disagree. :p
You are correct, John Force would disagree as far as his personal career is concerned, but I also think he would discourage anyone else from practicing it. It's just not practical!

Agreed.

Tony seems to be a consistent driver. Not one that just goes out & wins every other weekend. Besides 2011, maybe this new format that promotes winning instead of consistency is hurting him?

Tony has two of his cars locked into the chase, Harvick will probably go far in the elimination races. All Tony has to do is win a race and the regular season isn't half over. yeah it would be good if he already had a win, but way premature for me anyway to say the 14 team is bad yet. If there were a couple of races left and he was win less and not in the points running I would be worrying about it. If we were talking about the 14 team going all the way and winning it all this year, I don't have much hope of that happening. I think Tony is still not 100% and isn't taking chances or putting himself in positions to be in wrecks risking re injury.

What happens to SHR when Kevin, Kurt & Tony make the chase but Danica does not?
