THIS is what won this years VMA Rock video of the year. I feel as if hardly no one knows what Rock music is anymore... :/

Does she keep the white oversized shirt on the whole time? My life is purpose driven and if she does not, I don't want waste the 3 minutes

I'm sure even she, when she made this video, wasn't thinking "I sure hope I win the Rock video of the year with this song!" It's sad when an actual Rock group can't even beat out a Pop artist for a Rock video award...

I'm willing to bet every Rock group in the world threw up once Lorde was announced as the winner.

I gave up on the music award shows years ago. I will DVR them and try to find a few good perfomances but that's all (but I wasnt even aware of this award show)

If popularity is huge or worries about somebodies status matters to you, I could see some value. But even then I cant see the big deal for folks outside the industry.

Aside from kids needing the direction I think most folks want to pick their own music and have their own internal ranking system. In real terms a great song can come from a local club band or a superstar. I know some will feel like it doesnt count without the commercial sucess, but all I need is a tune that I like. So long live rock roll, it is here to stay.
(a really corny chezzie last line )

That's the thing, music award shows are all popularity contests. That's why there should only be one award show. Just simply make it a tournament bracket game. Most popular male group among said male groups. If you win...move on to challenge against the winner of most popular female group. Since it's simply a popularity contest, it makes no sense to have categories titled "best Rock music video" or "best male or female artist." Throw out the "best" and add in "popular."

The awards aren't about the music anymore they are about itune & record sales & youtube views. It's all about money. I didn't see the show and I don't know what she did when she got the award but I liked her when she 1st came on the scene and said she could give a damn about winning awards all she wanted to do was make her own music. Boy did the teens of this era miss out on the great music of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Led Zeppelin, the Cream, the Doors, Tull, Pink Floyd, and so many others I can't name them all.

I missed out but still listen to that music. Recently saw Styx

Jfc. As a lover of music & rock/heavy metal being my fav genre, this is devastating. My heart aches for kids younger than I

Probably the concerts she had to cancel because some country denied her because they said she was to raunchy?

Don't give me that ****. If Miley Cyrus was hot, nobody would've said a damn negative word about her twerking routine. And why wasn't Robin Thicke crucified for that? Oh, right, because he's a man.

Don't ask a question if you don't want a answer.

I'm listening to the rock station and I haven't heard this Lorde song once.

**** MTV.
If only we even had a rock station here... The Northwest Arkansas population is 482,000, and yet we still don't have a Rock station. Fall Out Boy tried bringing a small sound of Rock to mainstream stations in hopes of getting Rock music recognized once again. The VMA's prove that that didn't happen.

The only thing I heard about the VMAs was something about Suge Knight being shot at a Chris Brown party. Good old hip-hop, showing it's face again.

We've got two great rock stations here. 96.3 WROV mostly plays classic rock with some modern rock thrown in and 105.3 The Bear is just bad to the bone. :jamming:

and a wardrobe malfunction.I'm sure it was a accident.

I've never heard that song before I just watched that video when it was posted on here. It's not a horrible song. It's certainly not rock, but then most of what is in the rock n roll hall of fame isn't rock either. Oddly enough, the concept of rock seems to have become too hard to grasp somewhere along the line.

I don't follow and generally can't stand pop music, but Lorde is one of literally two current pop artists that I can actually somewhat tolerate, and that particular song is decent for what it is. I have no earthly idea how it won best rock song at the VMAs, but it's just the VMAs, so ehh...whatever.

The other pop artist I can deal with, and the only one that I can really say that I like, is Taylor Swift. Flame away. As a metalhead that has listened to a ton of devil music, I think I've earned the right to listen to some light pop-country about boys and breakups.
