Jeff Gordon to retire after 2015 season

Danica is lucky that Gordon is retiring because it is just a matter of time before somebody finds a place for him in a cup car and I content the 10 car has the worst results given the level of equipment and experience.

I'm not ready for this. I'm a grown ass man and know I'm going to cry a lot during this season.

All I can say is, I hope he wins a title on his way out.

God, this blows.

I motion to reopen the "Does Jeff Gordon Even Care Anymore?" thread, as it is evident that the answer is "no."

I enjoyed it, but the Illuminati hated the exposure. I am certain they had it closed. It is a shame because Patricia Driscoll was on the verge of joining up with us, along with the commitment to assassinate the biggest illuminati threats.

I am just thankful that we were instrumental in motivating Jeff to return to form in 2014. The threads timing and run up to the success of 2014 is no coincidence.
He obviously would have won the title if the thread would have been operational for the whole season.
We even got him to care enough to even fight, and utter "*******" for the first time in his life.

But without the thread to inspire and challenge him, I suppose this winter was just to long for him to endure.

What could have been shall haunt us for the remainder of our lives.

Do you guys think the wild fight with Brad K last year played a role in this announcement?
Maybe his wife put some pressure on?

ANyway Im sad he is leaving

nope

Anybody that reads me much should know I have never been a big Gordon fan. No big reason he does everything right, just my own personal stubbornness.
I don't plan on getting sentimental in 2015.

But anybody with an ounce of honesty knows he is one of the all time greats, one of a select few.
Bigger than what Jeter was to baseball, and what Kobe was to Basketball.

Over the last 20 years the biggest force or standard, and I will miss him.

And even all the old... "aw Damn Alan Gufaston" comments.

Respect to his fans too, a very loyal base.

Or Richard Petty, too.

There's something to be said about retiring while you're still winning races.

I think it is more difficult for former Nascar champions to retire on top as opposed to stick and ball sports. In other sports you have to perform to stay employed where in Nascar popularity and the ability to attract a sponsor is paramount. Having a past champ provisional and being able to attract sponsors kept a lot of guys in rides when they should have been put out to pasture.

I applaud Jeff for going out on his terms while he is still successful.

Good riddance....I will never forgive him for moving Rusty for the win at Bristol in 2002

Thank you for your one and only contribution to the board. 10/10 Will read again and reccomend to family and friends.

It woulda been worse had he decided to hang it up anywhere between 2008-2013. Because finding a new driver to root for woulda been hell.

But with these youngsters flooding in, its not as bad as it coulda been.

I loved to hate on wonder boy, but have realized he is as Greg said, a Great One. Much like Big E...I did not appreciate him till it was too late :( was too busy rooting against him

being a Rusty fan

To be fair, its hard to get over this too. I will never dislike a driver more than I did Rusty.

Ah yes, I remember that race. Look at the video and pay attention to Gordon's car before Rusty pulled a douche move and took him out. You see how beat up it was, yet he was still racing for the win? I miss those days when you could beat and bang without ruining your car.

What I don't miss is all the slack jawed yokel inbred fans that cheered when Gordon wrecked and threw trash at him when he won.

I wish I could like this 200x

Hate to disagree, but they bang the hell out of alot of cars last year

Hate to disagree, but they bang the hell out of brad keselowski's face last year
:fixed:

Yeah, they beat & bang. But its nothing like it used to be. You'd have guys with half a bumper & sheet metal falling off & they'd still be competitive. Nowadays if the nose shovel scrapes against the track you cant even keep up while under yellow.

I just want to clarify that all I ever threw to make a statement was soft bio degradable green initiative materials. That left no carbon footprint, and didn't evin need no carbon offsets.

I did toss some ladies dentures sitting nearby. But that was strictly to represent her thoughts not mine, so I ain't counting ones like that. I believed it was the most responsible thing to do at the time. She didn't think she had the arm strength and I was just being a good boy scout.

Daddy Uncle was the one that threw the hard jagged stuff, and the home made grenades. Even with that he lost a lot of credibility among all us cousins, when none of them worked. He was cutoff by all but one of his sisters.

Seems like it all worked out just fine, to me.

I think in 2015 Jeff will have the most fun he has ever had in a season.

That's because his car was so much better than everyone else's that he was still competitive with the damage.

Denny Hamlin @dennyhamlin

Dale Earnhardt Jr. @DaleJr
Never will forget the day my dad introduced me 2 @JeffGordonWeb. 1994 at N. Wilkesboro Speedway. Told me "This kid is gonna be special". Yep

In 1996, some Joe Dirt lookin guy with half his teeth missing happened to see my Gordon shirt and yelled "Gordon sucks! F'in queer!" right in my face. I was nine years old lol

He said he made his decision before then, and that played a part in how he reacted after the race.

Just seems odd to me a guy would call it quits after one of his best years in recent history. I admire wanting to go out on top it just seems like he's leaving a lot of future wins on the table.

I think it's a combination of wanting to go out on top, spending more time with his family, and his back problems. It's the perfect time.

I guess it kinda' puts your life in perspective when you recall like yesterday seeing him start his first race in the Atlanta Journal 500 in '92...... (That was a race for all time)...... already watching Nascar for over 25 years at that point and he has raced fulltime for 21 years now....... when he came in..... I was already set in my ways about how everyone needed to earn their way in by driving for teams like Junie Donalevy...... I hated how he got a primo ride right off the bat. It took me SEVERAL years to get past that. Now...... how he came in is the norm. He's proved he's a helluva' driver by hanging in there. As I said..... seems like only yesterday that the 'Kid' ran that first race and now he is the only regular competitor on the circuit to have been there...... All my heroes are retired...... sure doesn't seem like they should be......

I'd say spending more time with his family plays the biggest part. He might realize that..... in his line of work...... it could be over in a heartbeat. He's well set enough that he doesn't have to ever drive another race in his life unless he just wants to... His partnership with Hendrick will bring him in millions each year no matter what he does......

It's kinda cool he's going out this way though. Guys like Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip stayed in the sport about 5 years longer than they should have, Gordon's fans won't have to have the memory of him struggling to finish 30th every week like Petty and Waltrip did at the end of their careers.

This. I love the idea, but do you think Rick would get out of his comfort zone to expand like Penske did?

statement said " stay active in motorsports " . ? not just nascar.

maybe 1/4 midgets / go karts / etc ......for his kid ?

Whatever you do Jeff, forget the plate races. Keep it Martinsville.
