I am sure JGR will get things turned around and have several wins in them this year but what is off with them right now? Any ideas as to what might have happened between last year and this?

I don't think they are that far off. Just some shoddy luck to start the year

I think that the other teams might of caught up to them this year, while not saying they are not off a little, I think its a bit of both to honest, hopefully JGR will get their Toyota's back in VL soon.

Probably some truth in Kyle's rants about goodyear.

That's what it is, it was all fun for a few weeks. But Goodyear needs to let up on the man by now, they made their point. Even as a Chevy fan the weekly whippings has been more than mine eyes can bear.
Not sure if folks can relate, us Chevy people being used to winning almost everything and all, hell we got more championships than Kyle has blistered tires. It just dont seem fair.

Next thing you know he is going to have a big pout and melt down hissy. Samantha can't always be there to hold his hand and help him to be composed.

Goodyear needs to be little more compassionate with the afflicted, when the man's innards are so raw, and blistered as bad as the tires they force on him. Goodyear don't you have any shame, or deceny? It just don't seem fair.

I should be happy with Seven Times win today, he is so bowtie classy. Even while thinking about Jimmie's 7, Dales 7, the King needing a bowtie for his 7th, Jeffs 4, Tonys 3 etc. So thankful that Goodyear never done us that way and compassion for Kyles suffering fills the air tonight. It just ain't fair.

My hunch is the new zero-skew rule has hurt Gibbs more than the other teams, because they had figured something out in rear suspension and held an advantage for 1.5 years. I don't have solid facts to back that up... just a hunch.

Yeah, it looks like Furniture Row knows something that JGR doesn't currently know.

Adam Stevens commented that there is a disconnect between the aero and mechanical grip. They have been fixing one, and losing the other.

It should be noted that when NASCAR ran this aero package in Kentucky and Michigan of last year, JGR (Toyota) struggled as well. They have not yet figured it out. They were bad today. No question. No excuses. Flat bad.

They had a rough year in 2014, but I think that this deal is different. Then, they had engine issues--detuning to regain reliability. I think the engine is fine, but I think that they have not been able to get this package to the place where their drivers are happy.

Another contributing factor to the struggles include the fact that this is a brand new car--not just the front end as has been repeatedly suggested on Fox. Additionally, the complexion of the competition meetings has changed dramatically. You have lost 25% of the input from last year in favor of a rookie driver and crew chief. When you bring FRR into the picture you are looking at 33% of your input from rookie drivers and crew chiefs. This, IMO, is a substantial issue.

As for FRR's relative success? One of the attractions for Toyota in bringing them into the family is that they have one of the best engineering staffs in the business--certainly for a team of their size.

Finally, I think that racing luck plays a part. If things had gone a bit differently, JGR cars (and FRR) could have easily won three races--this thread would have never been created. It is important to point out that there has been speed in the cars, but alarming that Atlanta and Texas were so horrible--for JGR at least.

I love this stuff. Engineers fix problems. JGR is supported by a world class engineering company in TRD. Time to do work. It will be fascinating to see if they can dig out of this hole. Love this sport.

I think they will be there before really soon. Kyle usually goes on a hot streak in the summer. It's early still, some 20 odd races left.

Congrats -- That is one heck of an Excuse List you just rolled out! :)

Kyle and Kenseth are both really good at Bristol - let's not count our chickens just yet.

Anything but excuses. In fact, I think I used the phrase, "No excuses."

I don't think the Gibbs cars are much worse than last year.
KyBu came Close to winning at Phoenix and Martinsville, Hamlin and especially Kenseth had loads of bad luck and I don't think anyone expected Suarez to win races in his rookie Season.

I was more worrined about Hendrick before yesterday's race and they got turned it round quickly.

Hmmm. An interesting observation by Dale Jr. on Team Penske's speed...

“I mean, I felt like we were pretty good and we ran with the cars that have been really fast,” Earnhardt said. “I think (Brad Keselowski) and (Joey Logano) have been really the class of the field.

“I saw those guys weaving after the race and downshifting hard to reset their housing, so we have to figure out what they are doing and see if we can’t make it better.”

Yeah, clearly Penske is playing some games here. On one of the Fox sports videos from earlier this season (I can't find it here at work, but it was either winners weekend or radioactive) You can clearly hear Paul Wolfe telling brad something to the effect of; "It's going to be a short run, so set your switches to that". That makes me think there's some kind of manipulation going on with the car's computer and electrical systems, perhaps engine mapping?

Edit: It's from the Winner's weekend at vegas. After the caution with 10 to go:

Cooling fan switch arrangement that gives an extra 2 pounds of downforce.

Total cost of wind tunnel time to acquire specific data ... $ 98,500.

So put it another way, it costs all the money a smaller team gets from their charter for one race. Or, the cost of one engine lease from Hendrick for a single race.

Kenseth wrecks his cars a lot these days. Hamlin's therapist is probably working overtime, especially after Danica beat him this week. Kyle Busch is more worried about his moronic vendettas, and without Xfinity his confidence starts to wane. Suarez and Erik are being oversold at this point, and I hate being force fed by the NASCAR Marketing propaganda department.

But what's not to love about Martin Truex!
