Johali's Rate the Cup race --- Chicago Street

9. Even considering the rain and Xfinity situation etc the whole weekend and this race turned out a lot better than I ever thought.

Yeah it started out kinda meh but I chalk it up to the rain and everything. Def ended up being an 8.5

8.5, Props NASCAR, I hope you try this again here.

I'm going to go against popular opinion and say I can't give this race higher than a 4 at the most.

Yes the closing laps before the restart was exciting, but that was after multiple crashes and wrecks from experienced cup drivers and multiple caution laps that led to NASCAR shortening the race.

The whole thing was a cluster**** and looked more like amateur hour than a serious sporting league.

They started over an hour late. That had at least as much to do with cutting 25 laps as the cautions did.

But yeah, NASCAR probably has a much thicker 'Lessons Learned' notebook from this one than it expected.

8.5 Started slow but expected it would with the rain but as the track dried the intensity picked up. Saw several experienced regulars make errors in judgement and that is what made chicken salad out of chicken rear end grease.
I like road racing and was glad to see a street race. Hope they add one or two more soon.
Special congratulations to SVG. Damn fine drive to the win.

What is NASCAR supposed to do, control the weather? It rained so they pushed the start time back and still got in 75% of the race, and the crashes you're referring to mostly happened due to the strategic risk of slicks on a damp track, which was am awesome strategy to see play out while the track was drying. That's all the making of a good race, changing conditions, and we got it.

I'll give it a 7. It's interesting how I haven't seen anybody mention how NASCAR **** the bed on reducing the total laps. Inexcusable. Let the pit stops cycle, then notify the teams when it becomes obvious. Bell got screwed. Hard. Having said all of that SVG got screwed too, and drove through the field. Thus, a 7 not a 1.

I loved the course and the racing. Late start after torrential rain almost ruined the weekend but then they got a chance to run it and it was freakin great.

I loved the shot back down Jackson Dr. as they came to the last turn before the S/F line, with regular traffic going on behind the race. The visuals at this race were unique and very cool.

7.5 for me.

Just because on even tires it seemed really difficult to make up much ground. If you look at the starting lineup and the stage 1 results there was not much movement at all. Once you toss in pit stops and guys messing up it changes things as the race goes but in terms of being super racey, there's a lot to be desired, to me. But to be fair we saw the same thing at Sonoma so I'll consider it a car issue mainly.

10. NASCAR pulled off a new challenge and got a great race out of it. Win/Win!

My home town came through at the turnstile too.

10 race and winner
3 for nascar for the timing of shortening of the race.

Admittedly I was one of the ones who was going in with the attitude that this race would be a joke but damn it was entertaining. 9.5

9. The moves that Haley and SVG were throwing at each other down the stretch were epic. It’d be a 10 but too many pointless wrecks
