Knockout Qualifying Debut

I missed most of yesterday and didn't understand it or know what to expect but today was a hoot, I enjoyed it.

I think they need to allow the cars to be cooled on pit road --- having those cars out on the track doing 40mph while others
are on q'ing runs could be disastrous.

They should make a no tape rule or enforce minimum speed to be on the track. It was shocking to me they allowed guys on the track at those speeds. Sometimes nascar is so detached from their own rules.

Not only that lol.. they were fast all through speed weeks... they weren't last year... and now they are sittin 1-2 for the first race where handling really comes into play and theres new rules that the teams are all trying to get a jump on... it looks good so far for the Ford guys from what I've seen.

You could be right but I don't think being fast at PIR necessarily equates to being fast on high speed down force tracks. But I'm glad you're enjoying seeing Penske up front. It's fun when your driver and team are fast. :)

I was just thinking today that a minimum speed time be employed. Failure to comply = DQ from qualifying.

A minimum speed already exists. It's strange nascar didn't enforce it. Then again, they threw the radio contact rules out the window for Denny at the 500. That's nascar. About as consistent as oil in water.

Scary that we're having the same thoughts. Ha!

Some drivers apparently said to not allow coolers but others want them. Is it haves vs. have nots? Are those cooler rigs super expensive?

Maybe 30 minutes is too long for the first session. However, they probably want to make sure is lasts long enough to make fans and broadcasters happy.

Only for me. You, on the other hand, must be damn proud! ;)

I don't think smaller teams have coolers. I say just rule no tape. then the cars wont get so hot.

Well keep in mind Joey finished top 5 in all but 3 mile and a half tracks last year. The short flat tracks were really where they were slacking. That's why I see such an improvement. Mostly.

I missed it (I don't have the DVR option). It sounds like it is more interesting than the old system. It would be nice to see a replay during prime time.

This qualifying needs a tweak, and here it is.....put all practices on Friday. Move qualifying to Saturday. Impound the cars post qualifying. This way, all practice is in race trim, and they wouldn't have to play the jerk around games with cooling during qualifying. Whatcha think?

FS1 improved quite a bit with their timing and scoring.

After only 2 sessions it's obvious that this format has potential but the cooling issue (which causes the slow cars on track) is definitely a fly in the ointment.

Good idea, but they would still cool em down even in race trim they would run a faster lap after tires/engines cool , its an air pressure thing I think, I saw several teams starting to fool with the pressure yesterday and I think that will be the trend.
