Ku Busch would like to run Indy 500 Coke 600 double

i thought the times pretty much overlap now. i think i heard that somewhere on here. have no idea though really

I hope that he can put the deal together. For KB this could be a great career move. Run well in both events BE NICE and reinvent the image, perhaps the doorway back to a top tier team.

If my memory is correct they start an hour later now at Indy.

The Indy 500 starts at noon EDT, and average total time is about 3 hours. Charlotte's airport is about 380 miles from Indy's, and a groundspeed of 300 kts would mean about 1 hr 15 min flight time, so it's well within reason, even with chopter-ing from/to the track on each end. Kurt would stand a very good chance of making the field at Indy, but putting together a team capable of contending (i.e.: making it worth the trouble) would be pretty tough. It would also mean he'd have to start at the rear of the field in Charlotte, since he'd miss the driver's meeting.

Smoke seems to agree:

Tony Stewart envious of Kurt Busch's IndyCar test at IMS

“There’s not a doubt in my mind that he could make the (500’s) field. If he gets with the right team — and obviously he’s going with Andretti — I don’t see any problem making the starting field for sure.”

I saw a pic of Kurt today sitting in an Indy car getting fitted and getting his mirrors adjusted. I hope he runs good tomorrow and has a safe test session at IMS.

Indy 500 ends around 3 PM Eastern, Coke 600 green flag is around 6:15 PM Eastern. I think he could make it.

From what sports marketing is saying, he is also doing a rookie orientation tomorrow and that Izod and Furniture Row are discussing teaming up to sponsor Kurt in an Andretti car for the 2013 Indy 500. They said that tomorrow they want to see if he can get up to speed and get comfortable around 224 or 225. I don't know how reliable sports marketing reporters are, so only time will tell if it is true and if it all works out.

If he goes to IndyCar, that's where he'll stay.

He did one race in an NHRA Pro Stock car and didn't stay there. Why would you think he would permanently go to Indycar? The money is better in NASCAR right now, even for a mid-tier ride, which is why folks like Hornish Jr., Danica, Villenuve and Montoya are toiling around wasting their time being above-average at best in NASCAR than go back to IndyCar.

Yeah, I was surprised to find out a few years ago that's all Indy rookie orientation was. You do like 5 laps at 205 mph, 5 laps at 215 mph and 5 laps at 225 mph. I thought Indy rookie orientation was something more detailed, but it's basically showing you can drive fast and not be a rolling roadblock on the track.

Kurt's not in top tier Sprint Cup rides anymore. He's burned a lot of bridges in NASCAR and I don't see him staying in Cup if he mouths himself out of another ride. Childress might hire him next year but only to keep the seat warm for the Dillon boys. Kurt's Cup career is almost over.

Eh, fair enough, but he seems like he only has a passing interest in the history and tradition of the Indy 500. Seriously doubt he's looking for a full-time ride there. Besides, there's no full-time for him at any of the top teams in IndyCar either. He'd be driving for AJ Foyt or Dragon Racing or some other mid-tear Indy team.

I think it's still a little premature to read anything in to a full time Indy ride. Kurt hasn't even turned a lap yet.:)

I would think that the extra mph and the fact that you sit so low and close to the track has to be a really big difference. It will be interesting to see how he does tomorrow.;)

I really don't get how someone could say Kurt's cup career is almost over. Yeah, he's burned some bridges maybe but he's performing above what was expected at the 78 team, if that continues, he's sure to get another decent cup ride.

I would love to see him compete in the Indy 500, but riding an Indycar with other drivers on the track is a lot different than running solo practice and qualifying runs. I actually hope to see more cup guys like Kurt Busch and Allmendinger showing interest in the Indy 500 especially with the 100th running coming up in 2016.

I agree...I think his career is far from being done here in Nascar. I think he will land another top notch ride in the near future. I think his Indy car interest is only in the Indy 500 races.

Exactly. The Brickyard in a open-wheel car punishes aggressive drivers like Kurt.

I don't care how talented a guy is - Kurt is a destructive personality. That's all there is to it. And owning a race team is a business and Kurt is bad for business. Sponsors avoid him like the plague. Sure, he's got talent but people genuinely hate him.

Kurt has a history of burning bridges - mainly because he pisses on the shoes of those who believe in him. And his younger brother's the same way (except he has Joe Gibbs to protect him). Way too much ego.

They have made mistakes and you may be right, but I am not as absolute.
Some Redemption could happen.

I think we're seeing some genuine attitude changes by Kurt this season. He's been running pretty well too, the results just haven't materialized.

Forecast for Indy today mentions 50% chance of rain, but the radar looks like it'll hold off until the afternoon. He's getting ready, this is from about 8:30 local time this morning:

I just watched a couple of videos and Kurt did a nice job of leaving the pits, or at least he didn't stall it out or spin it around. After his warm up laps it sounded like he came down the straight away into the first turn with out lifting.

Although, he may make an excellent teammate for that childish Will Power.

KuBu needs to step it up cause Sarah Fisher and Danica both turned much faster laps at the Brickyard.

KB takes a few laps.

@FollowAndretti
. @KurtBusch is warming up. Just turned a lap at 205.86 mph while settling in.

********, do those twin turbo V6s sound stout! So happy turbochargers are back at Indianapolis. Damn, I love IndyCar.

Hey man, he already went 22 mph faster than Denny Hamlin's pole speed there last July.

I'd like to see Busch give it a try, he has some pretty good racing skills. I think it is a kinda late to put something together for this year. I'd like to see someone try the double again. Stewart had the best results in both races of the three who tried.

I think the Indy race moved back an hour when Indiana started using daylight savings time.

It looks like he ran 218 mph and passed all three stages of his rookie orientation with flying colors and has his Indycar license now. So now he can practice when his schedule permits and pursue double duty in 2014 if he wants to. My hats off to Kurt for a job well done.
