Ku Busch would like to run Indy 500 Coke 600 double

It looks like he ran 218 mph and passed all three stages of his rookie orientation with flying colors and has his Indycar license now. So now he can practice when his schedule permits and pursue double duty in 2014 if he wants to. My hats off to Kurt for a job well done.

I guess his skills are honed .

It sounds like if he doesn't make the Chase he might run in the IndyCar finale at Auto Club Speedway.

he is taking advantage of his free agent status, a smart move. Nascar keeps him pretty busy, but I don't think he is driving his brothers Nationwide car as much this year. He is a hell of a road racer also.

In their interview this morning, someone asked Michael Andretti to talk about how the whole deal came about, and he said it was because they have the same agent/manager. He got Kurt and Michael together last year when Andretti Autosports were looking into starting a Cup team, and it sort of took off from there.

When asked about his desire to drive in the 500, Kurt professed his commitment to the Furniture Row team. When pressed further, he said that he would want to drive in an oval race before trying Indy to get used to racing in traffic, which makes the Auto Club prospect more interesting.

At the beginning of the interview, he said that today's test was about the biggest thrill he could imagine, "except maybe an F1 car." So maybe he want's to be the most versatile driver around. After all he did do the ride swap with some Aussie V8 Supercar guys down in Austin a few weeks ago.

I believe he has the talent to do well in any car with enough seat time.

Yeah, I do remember Kurt Busch's name being thrown around when it was mentioned Andretti Autosport was looking at starting a Cup team. Guess Jayski's sources were on to something.

I for one would like to see him in open wheel permanently ...that way I wont have to watch him. He can take his brother with him too.

In Nascar rubbin's racin, In Indycar rubbin's wrecking. With his temper could he handle 32 other cars?
No doubt he has the abilty.
That is a good valid question, and I would have to say yes. He may have a temper problem but he is not stupid and he knows that you can't get away with rubbin in an Indy car or it could end his or someone elses life.

Welcome to the forum mirabilia , sorry you don't like the bash brothers :D..when you get to be my age , you'll find that drivers come and go , but the ones you remember are the colorful ones. They keep this forum going with their antics.;)

I watched the indy cars at Texas a few years back. They could run the track flat out. Reminded me of watching a plate race except there wasn't much passing. Might be a track similar to that where Kurt wants to run first. Indy is a whole different animal

Thank you for the welcome Ted. This looks like a very friendly forum of which I've been looking for.

Isn't he? I know he's a good driver but he isn't very sharp.

I'm not really qualified to judge someones IQ, but just sitting across from him at a dinner table and listening to his conversation, and talking to him in the staging lanes at the drag races actually gave me the idea that he was pretty sharp. I definitely don't judge how bright I think someone is by how I see them when their in a pressure cooker during or right after a race. But, the thing that he has to keep working on the most is keeping his anger in check. If he can do that then I think he will stay around Nascar for a long time, but if he doesn't then who knows where he will end up. Time will tell. But, I'm not the smartest pin in the pin cushion either, because if I was I wouldn't be 57 years old still hauling race cars around and spinning wrenches...I would be a crew chief making some real money.;):)

Some fans believe in fairytales, i.e. kurt Busch a good driver.

Busch's average finish has been 17.5. Even Kenseth has an average finish of 14.3. And the really good drivers like JJ and Jeff Gordon have average finishes of 11.6 and 12.5.

So having a championship, and having a win in every season he's competed (minus his rookie season and the last two where he was driving for underfunded teams) is not the sign of a good driver?

IMO, using finishing positions since Kurt's been in the 78 car as an indicator compared to what that team had been able to accomplish previously, significant credit for the turn-around at Furniture Row Racing belongs to him

Look at the equipment they are in . Kenseth is in a new ride , new crew chief ,new team and new manufacturer . Kurt is way worse off than Kenseth . Both are performing way better than I expected .

My avg finish numbers are for career. Don't mis-understand me. Every driver that races in Cup is a good driver. However, Kurt is no better and in many cases not near as good as quite a few drivers.

That wouldn't really surprise me. 28th on the all-time Cup wins list with 24 and a Cup championship.

It wouldn't surprise me either , but I think he should beef up those numbers just in case . Those voters on the voting panel are going to be extra tough on him.

The wins are enough but then again, maybe not without the Cup championship. At least not on his first ballot.

I want to see someone win both races on the same day. I don't care which driver.

There's always discussion that if somebody was going to do the double, but won at Indy, they would just skip Charlotte and stay and celebrate in Indianapolis. I would for sure go to Charlotte. How often would you have a chance to win both?

I think Bruton Smith still has a standing $20 million reward for any driver to win both races in the same day.

I think there is more chance of a driver (any driver) winning a powerball lottery than winning both of these races ever , let alone on the same day . Consider the possibility on Kurt winning a Cup race (any Cup race ) , then consider him getting into a racecar that he has never raced , with a team he has never raced with , and going out and winning in his first attempt at the biggest Indy car race there is . It would be very impressive to even finish both races on the same day . Other than that , buy lotto tickets. ;)

I agree. But I still want to see it happen. :)
