Kyle Larson Appreciation Thread

Looking forward to watching him race in Hendrick equipment. Wouldn't surprise me to see him knock out a couple wins by mid season.

Well, if current results from the 48 team are any indicator, Larson starts off with one arm tied behind his back. Crap.
I have mixed feelings myself. Johnson has had some fast cars and mistakes from both sides have ruined quite a few opportunities for decent finishes. It makes it had to see where the problems are driver/crew.

Thank you, Hendrick I'm excited that Larson is back. Been a fan of his for a long time the kid can flat out drive. Part of me wishes he was with shr only because he and Elliott have all the makings to be a great rivalry and rivalries are always better when you're not teammates.

Hopefully his other arm will be holding his steering wheel out the window doing a victory burnout

Jimmie and Jeff had a pretty good rivalry going as teammates at one time.

he will still have bell and briscoe in good cars and those other guys

This is an exciting line-up for HMS. Chase is coming into his own at the right time. Bowman largely stays under the radar yet delivers great results. Byron is starting to show signs of being the driver we expected him to be. Larson is already a proven winner and a heck of a showman. Great prospects!

This is cool.

Laughable. We believe in him....but not enough to pay him.....and what the hell is an OEM doing meddling in who a team hires for a driver? Thought you were against this type of thing....or is it just when Toyota gets involved? Don't bother, I know the truth and I'm really not interested in anything starting with "Cheetin' Yotas...."

I think it is great that instead of being told who to hire and fire, almost all of theteam owners have that choice instead of having to act like a corporate McDonald's franchise manager. Spotlights the difference in what is an independent racing organization and a total corporate factory effort with figure heads in all of the key positions that can't make decisions without the approval of the corporate Eastern mother ship.

I am not one who can get philosophically deep. In my simple mind sometimes we forget that these drivers are husbands, dads, friends just like any of us. It kind of hit home yesterday at the Charlotte dirt track. I was standing at his souvenir trailer noticing Owen Larson already had a t shirt out. Kyle's wife was standing there hanging some shirts on a rack. Someone was behind her handing her more shirts to hang. Took me a bit to notice it was Kyle. He was just doing what anyone else would. I have never interacted with Kyle, but this year I have been able to watch him interact with the fans at the dirt tracks. What I have seen is someone genuinely enjoying themselves and he appears to be very appreciative of the fans. Not sure how much this might change once he is back in NASCAR. While Blaney will continue to be my favorite driver, I am going to be cheering my a__ off for Kyle.

Who is Chevy? Whoever HMS wants them to be. Renders Mr. Campbell nothing more than a talking head. Yes Mr. H. No Mr. H. Yes Mr. H. Really, it's all perspective. You want your OEM running the show, or the favored son running the OEM? The rest of the Chevy bunch gets whatever Mr. H. doesn't want.

My hats off for Larson for turning his life around and now proving HMS made the right choice hiring him... by giving them a win this early in the season.

Unsponsored. Guess that will change soon.

You would hope, but with corporate America so scared of offending anyone who knows? My guess is they'll have to piece together a couple of years before they get a "major" sponsor

Unsponsored.
You seem unaware of the various automobile racing business models employed by the billionaire and multi-millionaire team owners who enjoy having something to do at weekends.

I hope this win has opened some eyes and taught people a valuable life lesson...and that is that no matter how far you fall in life, if you are still breathing then don't give up. Also the one thing that yesterdays win proves is that you never want to pay much attention to, or take anything said here on this forum very serious...and never give up hope. After the Larson fiasco a large part of this forum was ready to crucify him and said he should and would never drive another cup car again and if he did it would be for some low budget non performing team because no big team would ever touch him again. Those people were so wrong. Larson worked hard and did a lot of soul searching and did what he needed to do to turn his life around and make himself a better person and a better American and now he is being productive in his community and he is exciting his racing fans on the track again...watching his fellow drivers like Bubba and Kez greet him after the race was very heart warming to say the least.

People make mistakes. And it's no one's fault that not everyone is up to speed with the social issues that exist in our society. For whatever reason, Kyle was ignorant, and used a genuinely offensive word as slang. He didn't think to consider that there isn't an "okay context" to use it as slang in today's society.

He paid the price. He knows he's a role model for minority race fans and race car drivers. He DID set a terrible example and has chosen to take responsibility for his behavior. I see a lot of people saying that "ignorance isn't an excuse".. it isn't excuse. But it's an explanation.

And Kyle learned a lesson. He's lucky he has talent. He's lucky Rick believes in him.

And he's lucky that the contemporary nascar community believes in the capacity to grow, to better the self, and become more sensitive. Kyle isn't a bad person. He just made a big time mistake out of ignorant impulsivity.

I feel bad seeing people crucify him still. His victory interview was akward and he clearly seems to be digesting the entire thing still.

I'm happy for him.

I really thought it would be a handful of weeks before Larson would be anywhere close to a Cup win, but nope he hit the ground running immediately with Hendrick. I mean he had never won on a 1.5 before and now 4 races in has it. That's incredible for him and that team. The way he drove yesterday mistake free, Sky's the limit. Awesome example of turning what could have been a negative into a positive. Big time happy for him.

That was the impressive driving leaving out the Dr Phil parts. He never was out of shape coming down to the wire and was holding his lead interval and he made it look easy compared to when he was driving for Ganassi and trying to get some speed out of the thing. I think we are going to see how good Larson can be now.

Welp, we are gonna see how much CGR gear limited larsons performance. I felt in the past that CGR was up there with HMS, but perhaps not

I think Larson and Kurt made them look better than they were equipment wise.

They were a top running team once in awhile but never with any consistency, IMO.

This is a beautiful thing to witness. The man was thrown a lifeline in the form of a second chance at getting to do what he loves doing most, and what do you know... he is making the most of it. On top of the growing success, I love the mutual respect being displayed amongst Kyle Larson and his peers.

I always felt like they were the Chevy B-team. They've had their days in the sun, and while I hope to see them get a Cup one day, I've never felt that they quite matched teams like HMS, JGR, SHR, even Roush when they were in their prime. I don't think they've ever quite been on par with HMS. There's been some drivers in the past - and even recent years - that have helped them retain dark horse status like Larson and Kurt Busch. Even before them, Jamie Mac grabbed the occasional win, JPM bolstered their road course efforts with his prowess, and Sterling Marlin probably came the closest out of all of them as far as getting a Cup for that team goes. Yet, CGR's never truly passed their level of IndyCar triumphs over to Cup.

I don't think it will be too long before Kaulig is full time in cup and all hell will break loose when they do. They will easily replace Ganassi in the number 2 spot and will be competing for number one with Hendrick for top Chevy. The rest of the competition will have to make room for another big player.

In 2017, Kyle Larson won 4 times in Chip’s cars. 15 top fives.

Junk.
