Martinsville Pre Race Thread

When the caution comes out the lead lap cars and the lap down cars behind the leader slow down and the pace car picks up the field. Lap down cars in front of the leader can then hall ass around the track to rejoin the back of the pack.

Now back in 05 they didn't have the double file restart rule, so lap down cars started on the inside line. Because of that, Gordon didn't have to restart at the very back of the pack each time like you're saying. He probably restarted near the front at least a couple times so he didn't pass the entire field three times under green to pass the leader after the restart.

Coming from 3 laps down to win is pretty amazing on it's own. No need to embellish it with things that never happened.
He was caught several times by a caution almost to the front and had to start over, I'm saying what happened and you are saying what probably happened and stating it as fact.

He had to pass the leader, then the caution comes out and he's allowed to drive around the track and pick up the back of the field while everything behind the pace car is going 35mph.
Then he restarts near the front and has to pass the leader and stay there till the caution comes out and he does it over again.

I said it was pretty amazing that he was able to come back from 3 laps down to win. I did say that, right? But saying he passed the entire field under green 3 times is simply not true.

How hard of a concept is that to grasp?

Last post..

It doesn't matter if he restarted near the front. Everytime he got by the leader it only meant getting a lap back. Now, not only did he had to make that lap up straight up but had to be the first car a lap down by racing those guys who were lapped before him or to keep.

You're acting like he was lapped in the top 10.

He may not have literally lapped the whole field under green back to back to back but he still had to pass the leader twice and the entire field at least 2.

Apparently you didn't watch it, It is true and calling others a liar is not going to change it.

Have a good time folks it is my favourite track. I will be working sunday will watch it on dvr sunday night. I originally had sunday off, but I had to swap the day with friday to accommodate going to college and working both full time.

I love the track, if it was up to me they would race there every other week.

Damn, you're not putting him on the spot are you? lol

This is getting into the 'dead horse' territory for me, so I'm moving on now.

Damn straight I am. :D

I just think you're not seeing things right.

Youtube has all types of NASCAR videos but not this freaking race. lol

I dont necesarily remember how he got his 3 laps back but I do know he got most of them on green flag runs and was as low as 40th.

Johali says he has the race and he's seen it multiple times so I'm going to take his word on this one.

Hard to argue with evidence.

But to FlracingFan point. I do love all my Gordon fans here. Even Chex. :D

What's your take on it?
I was pretty young so I don't really remember the race but I've read he passed the leader on a restart (no small accomplishment) to get one lap back, got one free pass, and I forget how he made up the other but regardless, coming back from 40th and 3 laps down at Martinsville is no joke.

I give you alot of credit for staying calm and compose when arguements get heated here (Not that this particular arguement was out of hand). You got me beat on that department. Haha

Seems like a Zapruders film is in order to settle this issue.
I even googled a youtube of Gordon making up a three lap deficit. But the evil forces that wants to limit the publics knowledge have apparently scrubbed it off the internet, or had it redactifised.

My guess is most of the articles about it have been deleted from the archive of certain sites.

Here's one that gets the gist of it.

70 laps into the race Jeff Gordon was three laps down because he had to pit for a loose wheel. He and his Hendrick Motorsports team battled back all day long, made up the three lap deficit and took the lead with 35 laps to go.

For those going to Martinsville, Franklin County Speedway (about an hour or so up the road) has a race on Saturday night. Come on out. I'll be announcing out there - Halloween bash, gonna be a blast.

Weather forecast for the weekend is really cold, Friday 28/48, Saturday 39/54 and Sunday 36/64 degrees but still No Rain, No Sleet and No Snow, yahoo. :D

Chevy will clinch its 11th consecutive Manufacturer Championship if its top-finishing driver places ahead of Toyota's.

Where's that Toyoda feller anyway. :bounce:rub it in, rub it in, the Anything But a Toyota brotherhood are celebrating this week after Martinsville, we are confident that the General will clinch the title and continue to pull strong until the end of the season. Toyota? there is always next year. Ford is getting a new snazola for next year, so next season expect the competition to be even stiffer.

Anybody who goes is required to record Andy's carnival barker routine and post the MP3 here for posterity. Extra points for his 'Trick or Treat', or hawking nachos.

Going to go by quick, only 263 miles. JJ's going to be tough alright, Jeff has been up on the wheel lately too, Jr seems to have woken up, and if Kasey can find the track o_O. Hamlin might squirt up to the front, he is pretty good at M'ville, Kenseth will probably run much better than his stats. I think most of the chasers will be trying to stay out of any fender bending until the last few laps. I'm thinking it will be a wild finish.

Gordon wishes this was a 260 miler. He'd had like 10 wins by now all back to back. lol

The weather forecast remains the same, cold but no rain sleet or snow. :D

Eh, expected more out of Gordon's run there.

Jimmie qualifies upfront means everyone can go home now.

Martinsville... It seems so simple, but so damn difficult to master. Insane how much goes into this. Accelerate out of the corner, brake slightly at the right moment, roll into the center of the corner (most difficult, have to have the proper setup for the driver), and accelerate at the right time out of the corner for maximum traction...

David Regan in 6th. Nice for Front Row.

At least Gordon will start on the inside this time.

How long till Jimmie takes the lead? 5-10 laps? :p

Ragan's best finishes on non-plate tracks are usually at short tracks. Nice to see him get a Top 10 qualifying spot.
