Martinsville Speedway Pre-Race Thread

The best dogs are slaw dogs. Now I'm hungry.

Yeah they paved all of the great dirt tracks and now they act like they are sacred. Some say the new car isn't built for dirt, the dirt ringer who got his butt stomped in both races says "this ain't REAL dirt racing" .

Martinsville dirt sounds good. I was hoping to see North Wilkesboro dirt online there last year.

Would be smart to have him in the wings, I can see a scenario where Chase needs a relief driver.

IMO, they should've kept Josh in there this weekend, since he'd have a realistic shot at winning, and announced today that Chase was coming back next weekend. Extra week to prepare, and keep the interest of all the short track fans in the Carolinas and Virginia.

I love Martinsville, but Josh Berry running that race had my interest well above normal, especially after Bristol.

Josh Berry needs a good Cup ride with how he ran at Richmond. Ty Gibbs is still figuring out the Cup series.

No offense to Josh Berry, I know he's killer at Martinsville in late models or whatever, but I think I'll put my top tier cup driver who's won at Martinsville back in the car and let him start chipping away at the hole he dug for his team if he's ready to.

What hole?

LITERALLY all Chase Elliott has to do is win ONE single race at any point between now and Daytona in August. That's it. This isn't even the same as Kyle Busch's comeback, because the criteria for making the playoffs was much more difficult then.

Yeah, if Chase is ready, he's obviously the better option if it's between him and Josh.

You don't think that team is gonna be a little behind 8-ball performance wise? It's also safe to assume it's probably going to take him a few weeks to get reacclimated in the car. You've gotta start that process as early as possible to position yourself for those final 10 races. And that's assuming he wins. There's no guarantee there.

We don't know just how good Berry really is because he gets the benefit of them cheated up Hendrick chebbies. /s

(isn't that the argument we used on Ty? I figure what's fair for the goose...)

I understand you don't know what a hole is. Elliott lost out on any playoff points he could have won in addition to stage points. He also has to finish in the top 30 in points in addition to at least one win.

They got rid of the top 30 rule for this year.

He's missed out on maybe 10 playoff points realistically. He doesn't have to worry about top 30 any more.

I'm questioning the decision, but not because I'm a Berry slurper like a lot here. I'm just wondering how wise it is to test a surgically repaired and barely healed left leg on a braking track like Martinsville as first race back. Bold for sure, bordering on foolish when thinking long term. But what do I know, I'm not a REAL doctor.

Oh I bet he has a cast or a brace on it.

I'm surprised it turned out to be only six races.
Will Chase be braking with his right foot in the coming weeks?
My interest in Martinsville just declined significantly.

Really wanted to see how Josh did there. He could've won that race.
It will be interesting to see if the TV ratings recover after Elliott's return or if the viewing numbers remain at 600k less than last year.

4 consecutive Top 10s and counting :idunno:
Berry to the 51?

Too soon?
The 51 is a Ford, don't see it happening.

They’ll bounce back SOME.

I’ve seen a lot of idiots on Twitter that said they only watch for Chase.

If the ratings bounce back in full because of Chase, then NASCAR has a catastrophic problem because that means one driver is the sport.

I haven’t watched since he’s been out. I just didn’t care, and it makes it hard for me to put up with NASCAR’s bulls*** without a dog in the fight. I’d watch a few laps a week at most. 🤷‍♂️

Apparently not around when Jr. and Sr. were in the sport. Maybe they can hatch some dark conspiracy theories about Elliott so that never happens again. :sarcasm:

I am interested to hear from him later this week regarding how he came to the decision to come back, especially here. I'd imagine some sim time had to be put in, probably even for a significant number of laps.
