MENARD!! Wins Indy!!!

The race was 400 miles wasn't it? He was leading at the checkers, last time I checked that's called a win!

Your previous post said Gordon "couldn't" catch him.Just stating he had the car to,just ran out of time.Gordon was running a mile and a half faster so he could have caught him.

That was a very ligitimate win IMO, not sure why some people here think it wasn't. Congrats to him and his team, and it is very nice to see another first time winner, that's 3 this year correct?

Meaning he couldn't catch him in the alloted amount of laps...could of, would of , should of.....WTH?! The race was 400 miles and Gordon was at least 6 car lengths back at the checker.

I agree, he has ran well in the last 4 years. I have even heard people made mention of his last name and how it got him into racing. But of all the folks who had Sponsorship getting them a ride, he has made the most of it and improved every year he has been in NASCAR. He has also ran decent this year with bad luck sometimes taking him out. He has ran as well as the other first timers this year, and he deserves to have this win without all of the negativity that you asterisk loving jerks tearing him down with already. Celebrate the first time winner, not tear him down. Aheck of a lot better than having 5 time or Busch in victory lane. Great win for the little man today!!!!

Couldn't agree more. He has improved a bit more each year and now in real good equipment he deserved a win.

Congratulations to Paul Menard, that's a big one for a first victory. I thought Gordon was gonna catch him there at the end but man, those guys got it just right & JG just ran out of laps.

I will admit I really used to hate Menard like Stephen Wallace.

That's just my quirk, "I like the poor boy done went and made good" stories.
The kind that would be considered trailer park white trash.
Poor roots but talented enough to beat almost impossible odds.
So liking Menard isn't my first inclination. But looking back on it, I am the one full of # 2.

Menard has used his advantages but who doesn't. How many daddy boys are in all of racing? The answer should be and is countless.

Menard started out easier than many of us. When I raced I moonlighted loading trucks, and had an engine built with my credit card. So I feel for a truck champion like Johnny Benson and wheel men like Ward Burton who basically were told thanks, but no thanks.

But none of that is Menards fault. In addition having money doesn't guarantee greatness. Most of us have met or know about an uninspired rich kid who felt entitled, and accomplishes little.

But Menard (yes with his money) still has approached racing with a workman like ethic. He didn't start out in cup showing talent like he did today, but he has developed, which is worthy in itself.

It was no fluke, and like it not, the closing laps were executed and well played by him. Over the last 12 laps, Gordon was knocking off more than a second a lap. But Menard kept the big picture in mind.
He also stepped up the pace in the last few laps to keep Gordon behind him.

So congratulations, on a big win.

BTW, any purist should have been opposed to any late race phantom debris caution. Let em race, let nature work, and accept the fair results. Thank goodness Nascar allowed them to do that, to just race and settle it on the track (at least they do try in the closing laps).

& They're all Richboys... MenaRDS DAD <IS JUST ThE Richest...:beerbang:

I had no idea Menard was so hated on here.

I'm beginning to think EVERYTHING is hated on here. All negative all the time.

Congrats to Paul and his team. They crossed the finish line first, they won.

Ok, I didn't read through this whole thread, because honestly, it was giving me a headache. Here is what I don't get....

For the last 3 ro 4 years, all ANOYONE has complained about is the same person always winning, namely Jimmie Johnson. This year we are getting A LOT of other winners, including some first timers....those same people are COMPLAINING! I don't get it.

As my dad would say, "some of you would cry with a loaf of bread under both arms and a pack of bologna between your teeth!"

It's very simple...it's the internet and people have differing opinions. Some people choose to express those opinions in different ways.

If people don't like the Menard win, that's their perogative and I seriously doubt they have any intent on justifying that.

How we react is the only factor we have control over.

Finally, congratulations to Menard and team.

Congrats to the whole Menards team...Ran a good and smart race

I agree with what you are saying here. The only point I am trying to make is there is non-stop complaining no matter what happens in the race. I don't see why some even watch.

4 first time winners....Menard, Ragan, Smith, and Bayne.

This is very cool indeed. Anyone know the last time we had four first time winners in the same year? I don't, I'm just asking and I'm too lazy too look it up. It's gotta be rare though I'd guess.

Quite a diverse group this year. There's a bunch of drivers out there that haven't won a race this year that are more than capable of doing so. It seems now more than ever that there is a longer list than ever of drivers that could visit victory lane any given week. Does that mean that it's more competitive? I don't know but it is a welcome sight IMO.

Well you better have a jar of Gray Poupon in yer back pocket...:D

My dad would always say "you'd byitch if they hung you with a new rope".:)

His father bought him the ride(s) by his sponsoring them. I'd do the same for my kid and if you're honest many others here would do the same too. The kid does show promise and talent.

I don`t know when the last time was but 1949 must have been the first time ;)

Yep agreed.

Congrats Menard! First win toilet papering.....

I have to correct myself that is 4 first time winners....Menard, Ragan, Smith, and Bayne.

Lets keep it in perspective here. They all got their first wins.:beerbang:
The question is, who also got their last win at cup level......?
Coincidence, good fortune, or a sign of better things to come?
Ragan I can see repeating, the other 3, not so much, anytime soon.

I dumped this comment to my thumb drive. Bayne will win again.

I've never really liked Menard either and for this year I've liked him even a bit less cause I'm not a big fan of RCR.

Do I care that he won? Nah not really but to say that he sucks and is one of the worst drivers is a bit ridiculous.

This is what Stewart had to say about Menard back in 2007...

"You can have your father buy your ride and write DEI a big check, but you can't buy talent. And that's what John Menard's been good at his whole life, is just buying success. He's bought his son a Nextel Cup ride and he's just got enough talent to just be in the way most of the time."

Can you imagine if Menard makes the chase and stewart doesn't?
