NASCAR Announces 2018 National Series Driver Participation Guidelines

I'm trying to wrap my head around the number 7. Why not just do 5 and 5?
I agree but more like 3 & 3.
I think because KB is sitting @ 89 and they'd like to make sure he gets this '100' thing wrapped up more sooner than later, but I digress.
That's the first thing I thought of. When kybu gets his 100 wins then they'll lower it some more.

Not really gonna change anything.

I read Mark Martians comments, he is good with the changes. He pointed out that things were different during his time. I believe having a Cup driver in those series is a good yardstick for the drivers. But I didn't like it when the Cup drivers took over the series which limited the number of rides for the next gen of drivers. I do think that Cup drivers running the xfinity series do get a bit of an advantage for the Cup race, they learn how the track works for the weekend. Kyle Busch is in a bit of a different situation, he owns a team.

Mark Martin competed full-time in the XFINITY Series for only one season, but the NASCAR Hall of Fame member ran a part-time schedule for a dozen years.

He won 49 times, a series record that stood until August of 2011 when Kyle Busch won his 50th XFINITY Series race.

Martin admits “I don’t really know where I stand on that,” when asked about Cup drivers competing in the XFINITY Series.

Yes clearly he is against Cuppers in Xfinity.

read the whole thing Clutch. We all know he isn't against the cuppers

“It’s a different day and age today,” Martin, 58, said. “I like what’s going on nowadays, I like the rule today and where they go with it from there I’m sure will work. … The racing, the world, the hardware, everything has changed since the ’90s. I’m OK with what they’re doing and OK with where they’re looking at heading to limit it even more.”

The fact that they can't race the final 10 of the year or the dash-for-cash races means that we are in for atleast a few barnburners to wrap up the year. This is GREAT news.
Yes, that's the biggest change and probably the most important.

That dash for cash series needed that badly. That is a big money series of races, fairly hard to follow who is what with the stage races and all, and throw in a few cuppers wining stages and races at the same time really screws it up.

Gluck piece.....

Just Ban Them Already

Jan. 2011

Rule: NASCAR announces drivers must “pick a series” in order to run for a championship.

Quote: “We think it’s worth it in order to promote and create more of a clearer understanding on the difference between Sprint Cup and Nationwide races or Camping World races. The attention and the identity of the developing drivers we think is expedited with this move.” — Mike Helton.

Jan. 2016

Rule: NASCAR announces the 16 Chase drivers from 2015 are ineligible to run the 2016 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway in order to put an emphasis on Xfinity and Truck regulars in the new championship race format.

Quote: “Many people like the idea that it’s unique that our best drivers get to compete with our up‑and‑coming drivers. Others, not so much. But we like it in general. It’s part of who we are. …. So we’ve had to modify it a little bit, of course, with changing the formats around. But generally speaking, that’s kind of where we stand.” — Brian France.

Oct. 2016

Rule: NASCAR announces Cup drivers with more than five years of experience can race in 10 Xfinity events and seven Truck events in 2017, but cannot compete in any playoff races or Xfinity Dash 4 Cash races. In addition, drivers who get Cup points (regardless of experience level) cannot compete in the Xfinity or Truck races at Homestead.

Quote: “The updated guidelines will elevate the stature of our future stars, while also providing them the opportunity to compete against the best in professional motorsports. These updated guidelines are the result of a collaborative effort involving the entire industry, and will ultimately better showcase the emerging stars of NASCAR.” — Jim Cassidy.

Today

Rule: NASCAR announces Cup drivers with more than five years of experience can race in seven Xfinity events and five Truck events in 2018, but none of the playoff races, regular season finale or Xfinity Dash 4 Cash races — a limit which also now extends to all Cup drivers regardless of experience level.

Quote: “Fans have made it clear that they want to see the future stars of the sport racing against their peers in the Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. These guidelines achieve that and preserve limited opportunities for developing drivers to compete against the best in motorsports.” — Jim Cassidy.

In the future, maybe next year

Rule: Another baby step toward solving the problem instead of actually just banning Cup drivers from running lower-series races altogether.

Wait, aren't they doing that this year too? I've been waiting for the playoffs all year for that!

Anyways, five fewer opportunities is another step in the right direction. I don't think anyone who watched either Iowa race was really disappointed a bunch of Cup drivers weren't there.

Only Homestead this season. Next season, the entire playoffs.

Ban them, and be done with it. This inch by inch thing is stupid. Ban 'em, and see what happens. The conversation bores me. It's either going to fill the stands, and "Make Racing Great Again!" or the series will fold. I'm ready for either. Let's do this.

NASCAR fans just like to complain. Once cup guys are banned the diehards will care but a majority of the fan base won't watch or attend these races same as now. Cup guys or no, there will still be a combined crowd of 50 at xfinity races at Indy or Texas

I feel like reducing the number to say, 5 or so with "blackout dates" at certain races is a nice happy/medium between letting FNG's learn from cuppers and letting the races entertain.

Once again the only ones complaining are the people complaining about complaining. Lmao

Come on, you all know the reason for still running 7 races with cup drivers. What is JGR going to do with all those Xfinity cars and sponsors if he can't use his cup drivers. And what is the series going to do if 8 cup cars are lost to the series? They have to move slowly or they won't have any Xfinity series.

So much of these driver comments are just people pleasing. If you think of it in drivers terms, they think they are great and if they don't think so, they wouldn't be where they are. They want to win races to look good, and who would want cup drivers taking away their limelight and money. I have never bought the teacher thing, never will.

Okay, I guess Jeb's not going to get anywhere with Kes on this.....

Keselowski's not getting it. You can run ARCA and Trucks, but once you get to XFINITY, Cup drivers take up all the rides. During that stretch where Cup drivers ran every XFINITY race every year, we didn't have any young talent coming up through the ranks.

Step in the right direction as far as making the races more interesting.
Hopefully they will drop it to 5 and 3 in 2019 - and so on till its 0 and 0.
