NASCAR Announces 2018 National Series Driver Participation Guidelines

I think if I am reading this right this is pretty huge

WHAT ARE THE NEW GUIDELINES?

In 2018, any driver who scores Cup points will be barred from competing in the final eight races of the Xfinity and Truck Series in 2018 (that’s the regular-season finale and the playoffs).

It says ANY driver. That would cover a hot shot Xfinity driver that is going to cup. Teams can legally run 5 cars for a few races, Hendrick and Gibbs recently ran Elliott and Jones in a few cup races when they were full time in Xfinity. This rule would have excluded them from all of that, 8 races, playoffs, etc. yikes, doesn't look like much of that will be happening anymore.

Makes a guarantee of at least 12 races with no Cup participants not including the Iowa races. I like that the Cup drivers with less than 5 years still can run in any of the 21 races they want. I think they should stop with the restrictions here though 7 is a good number although if they really want to limit the Cup drivers just make 7 or 10 specific races that will feature Cup drivers.

Penske could still run all his Cup drivers in the 22 all year until the regular season finale and dash races. JGR could run two cars the same with Suarz, Jones, Busch, and Hamlin. Larson can still run the 21 available race next year but will be his last before he has to deal with the restrictions.

This is why I think the small handful range is alright. You get the entertainment and increased exposure of a field with no Cup drivers for the most part but there are still some learning opportunities and sponsor dollars from companies only interested in Cup drivers still coming in. If an organization really wants to they could easily stack their Cup roster into one car across the regular season still.

Yeah I think you are reading that wrong. A hot shot Xfinity driver getting a few runs at Cup wouldn't earn points if the declared for the Xfinity Series at the beginning of the year.

double standard thing. Open door to go up and not down, good deal I was worried they had stopped that from happening and ruined their chances at a title in Xfinity at the same time. I saw that they ranked Jones and Elliott for their cup races.

KBM develops young talent. If he closes shop that will have a negative impact on Xfinity and Trucks.
Just be careful what you wish for.......you may get it.

The truck series was around when he wasn't in it, and it will go on after he bails. It's time for the you need Nascar but Nascar doesn't need you. Thorsport racing with 4 yotas are licking their chops. Red horse racing might come back

Thorsport gets its chassis's from KBM so I don't think they'd be licking their chops all that much if Kyle Busch pulled out.

Yeah, I like the new guidelines. I've always said that Cup guys shouldn't be kicked out of the lower series' completely, but should be limited in the amount of those races they run. 7 Xfinity and 5 Truck races for the Cup guys is plenty IMO.

If KBM goes away, team like NEMCO are going to become more prevalent, which is a HUGE win for fans..

Kyle Busch is God's gift to racing according to a few here
Hyperbole.

KBM puts 3 or 4 trucks on the track at every race, almost always driven by solid youngsters on their way up. The series would miss those entries, imo.

Which is why Kyle shouldn't pull out his team if he ever is banned in the Trucks.

They were around before KBM. Everyone acts like Kyle Busch is the reason Toyota is involved in the sport. I don't get it.

If they go to spec engines I doubt Toyota or any manufactures would want to be involved in the series.

I really don't think it's a big problem in the Truck Series. You don't have Cup owners teams which seems to be more of the problem people have with the Xfinity Series rather than Cup participation. Kyle Busch and Keselowski are probably the only ones that will use all five races unless another driver starts a team. The 8 final races plus Gateway and Iowa make 10 races with out Cup drivers. So drivers will have 13 races to chose from to get their 5 races. Could very well have Cup guys in all 13. That's why I think they should just set specific races that will feature Cup drivers if they want to limit them.

it has always been about Kyle, the developing part is just more B.S. they never win when he is in a race, they want to keep their ride.

Well if he cared so much like people said he does about developing talent, he wouldn't care about racing there or not. Js.
I've never read anything about how much he cares about developing talent. I assume he enjoys it and imagine that it's satisfying when one of his driver has enough success to move up.

I see no reason to demonize the guy ... he's helped some good young guys get into the game. If he stops, he stops. Life will go on as it has since the Harvick family shut their truck teams down.

I hear it from Kyle fans all the time on here. But meh I guess Kyle only likes to stroke his own ego.

I mean yeah it opens up doors for new teams, but at the same time it just shows him as he really is IMO.

I realize that it's important for some people to continuously find fault with Busch.

Hey ... they can't all be named Junior.

I don't have much problem with NASCAR's approach to this and am ultimately fine with it. Less reliance on Cup driver moonlighting is better for the Xfinity Series as an actual entity, and I think it was rather gutsy for NASCAR to cut the cord. The next step would be to trim the reliance on companion events, but that's more difficult.

Still, please let this serve as another reminder that everything they do is incremental. When a new change is introduced, know that more of the same is right around the corner. They'll get you used to three stages and then make it five, etc.

If he's banned his sponsors might run as well and then he'd have no team. He runs a lot of the new trucks KBM builds and sets them up for younger drivers later. His knowledge of the trucks is a big part of his team and its success.

Nothing would stop him from testing them to set them up for others. You do realize that right?

What's Jr got to do with any of this? We're talking about Kyle Busch and how he's crying about how he doesn't want to be banned from lower series lol. Has zero to do with Jr.
Junior is a development series team owner who on occasion, drives his own cars in the B Main. Compare and contrast.

If I choose to invoke the name of The Golden Child in this thread, I believe I have every right to do so. I'm pleased that you don't like that.

nobody said anything about running zero races in the trucks..Kyle did, and then he said he wouldn't have a truck team, he made the threat all on his own.
I'm pretty sure he has every right to do so.

He pays the bills.

When he does race guess what? I don't cheer for him against the drivers in the series. I rather a driver who's trying to make a name for himself win the race over Dale Jr. Kyle fans rather he win over a driver making a name for himself. Plus when's the last time Jr ran more than like 3 to 4 races?
