Aww 1 away from making 23XI and FRM sweat.

Prettiest track on the circuit IMO.
I love the landscape, too. I know we have to protect drivers from hitting solid objects like the trees that have killed so many in the past, and I don't want to see any more of those tragedies. So I understand the reasons for Formula 1 having many generic runoff areas and sand pits.

But I still love the colors of Watkins Glen, and in contrast, I find the painted grid at COTA to be an eyesore. I still like COTA overall; I just wish they would at least get some green paint to make it look more natural.

I like an RC that looks like a winding and beautiful, well-kept country road. Those types of roads often make me think about the best lines and apexes to take; they make me want to go fast. Watkins Glen has that look, and I love it.

Goodyear Fast Facts — Watkins Glen

This weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International marks the fifth road course race of the season. Teams will use the same Goodyear Racing Eagle tires that were run earlier this year at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez (Mexico City), Chicago Street Race and Sonoma Raceway.

First introduced at COTA in March, the road course tire was developed to promote increased wear and performance fall-off over the course of a race.

“Watkins Glen is known for its high speeds and traditionally low tire wear,” said Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear operations manager for global race tires. “The Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup we’re bringing this weekend was designed with increased lap-time fall-off in mind, and has performed as intended at the four previous road courses this season. Cup Series teams will have data from those races to help fine-tune their setups ahead of Sunday’s race.”

All three series will have wet weather tires available in the case of inclement weather.

Imagine the butt-hurt if Bubba pulls off the (unlikely) W in this piece.
"You just got beat by Bubba in a hot pink car!"

Thank you to everybody for not mentioning the oil race that robbed a win for then awesome KB, and a birth in the playoffs. I love Watkins Glen, but living that hell over and over every year as we prepare for this event has taken its toll on me. Queue @StandOnIt posting an archaic post on X. :)

@Revman still having PTSD. :p Might look into counseling because we'll be seeing that one for a couple more decades.

Okay, I'm confused again. I thought turn 7 was the 'toe' of 'the Boot'. The NASCAR route runs from the exit of the carousel (turn 5?) directly to turn 10. Is the restart line somewhere in there?
I could be wrong but since the article explicitly mentions the entrance of turn 7 and last ditch efforts to make a race-winning pass in said turn, I think it's supposed to mean the final right-hander.

I'm thinking that the lead cars will be out of the corner and on the straight and the back of the field will have corner 7 to get around for restarts. ugh, wreck city.

We haven't talked about the gorilla in the room at Watkins Glenn. He's in the 9 in the Xfinity and the 88 in cup. Will Zilisch in Xfinity be a factor?

It's been quiet but Chase has been good on the road courses this year. I think he has a shot Sunday

The Glen lacks the hard braking zones of the other road courses. It's not a very technical track. I don't think SvG getting the win is a given.
I dunno. If you look at the list of winners for the last couple of decades, almost all of them had solid R/C skills. You don't see too many sneaking in who weren't also good at Sonoma and other twisties. Shane may not be a prohibitive lock but he'll be in my top three until he shows me otherwise.
