After nine years in Las Vegas, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards could change locations this year.

With no firm contract as yet for this season to remain in Las Vegas, NASCAR has been exploring several options for the end-of-the-season celebratory event, multiple sources confirmed to Motorsport.com.

Sources said Charlotte, N.C, and Nashville, Tenn., are among the destinations most seriously considered should the event move.

NASCAR already hosts its touring and home track awards in Charlotte and last season added its Xfinity and Truck awards to run the same weekend. Charlotte hosts two Cup series race weekends each year in addition to the annual NASCAR All-Star Race.

Local government officials with Nashville, Tenn., have been courting NASCAR for the event over the past couple of months. Nashville no longer hosts any NASCAR races but Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville was home to 42 events in the Cup series between 1958 and 1984. The track also was home to nine Xfinity and five Truck races.

Brian would probably like to have the shindig in Gimli Manitoba and I am sure he would arrive a week early and probably stay at least a week later.

I would be interesting to know why they don't have it in Charlotte. They have an expensive Museum there and I understand it needs a lot more traffic to become profitable. Would it not attract tourists to the area??

I think timbuktu would be a good place for it

I'd say the drivers and team members would much rather vacation in Vegas than either Charlotte or Nashville.
I don't know how much of a vacation it is, what with all the driver obligations, or how much of the expenses NASCAR covers.

If the drivers really wanted a Vegas vacation, and if they or the teams are already paying for most, they can always do it anytime in the next three months. That way, it will be a real vacation instead of having to work around NASCAR's schedule. There's probably plenty they'd rather be doing with their families between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

If the teams are paying for most of it, I suspect the team accountants would much rather have it at home. Basically they're paying to have the personnel and a car for burnouts transported. In some ways, it's a bit like a race weekend's expenses. Sure, there are no tires or gas to buy, but they're probably lodging more people. More important, there's no check at the end of this 'race'; the expenses come completely out of the year's profits.

But it doesn't matter much to me. I won't be watching regardless of where they hold it.

Eh. I know everybody loves Vegas, but the banquet is an overrated event anyway. Maybe if they had a short track late model charity race or K&N show paired with the banquet it would be better.

I usually spend a few days in Vegas in the off season but I have never went there the same week of the Banquet. It might be fun to go there that weekend just to see some of the drivers and their families roaming around town. Do they usually do any meet and greets while they are there?

I live within 5 hours of Vegas but I'd probably not go out of my way to the banquet unless I could get autographs/interact with the drivers.

It doesn't help that I believe they did all the events from Wednesday-Friday last year.

And on that note, the Cup Series doesn't do a good enough job of keeping fans happy with their interaction with drivers. Maybe they'd get some more asses in these seats if that happened.

I am in agreement with this reply.

the uptown streets of charlotte nc doesnt have one street these cars could do burns out like they do in VEGAS! i stay in charlotte and like charlotte but it needs more tourist attractions .. we have no zoo no aquarium , well u got the tiny one at concord mills mall but that sucks lol.. its a nice city but it just needs more.. plus uptown its no parking and the streets are so tiny.. whoever designed that how city layout had no clue what they was doing because the layout is terrible. next year the NBA ALL STAR GAME will be here the CIAA and ACC tournament week after week and its going to be a nightmare! But the city will grow tremendously after all that money .. they are expecting half a billion dollars going into the city next year!

I said the same thing when they moved it from NYC. Vegas always seemed like an odd choice to me.
I'm just the opposite, I think NYC was an odd choice. I think Vegas or Charlotte is the best choice. Vegas because awards banquets and partying go hand in hand and Vegas is one big party palace....or Charlotte because it is the home of NASCAR and most of the teams. But, if they wanted to keep it more low keyed then they could have it in Las Vegas New Mexico.:)

NYC was important, especially back in the old days, because it put NASCAR in the middle of the media universe and conveyed the idea that the banquet was a really big deal. It was much easier to usher the new champion around to the big three networks, and their morning shows, Letterman, etc.

Do they still have drivers on the morning shows or the late night shows anymore? I know they have Danica on from time to time just because it's Danica but usually it's about something other then NASCAR more for her book or other things.

Probably not. Letterman and Leno are gearheads, they loved having racers on their shows. Colbert and Fallon could care less.

Fallon has the Championship 4 on his show every year the week of Homestead. And obviously the 500 winner makes their rounds on all of the different shows. I think Truex may have been on a few after he won. There's probably not much more of a reason during the season to have drivers on.

When John Force Racing was based out of California Leno used to come by the shop a lot and he was at most of the JFR Christmas parties. Is Letterman still part owner of an Indy car team?

It should cost a lot less. But, will give up the excitement that Las Vegas and New York City offered. It shouldn't matter to me. I don't go and quit watching years ago. They may as well cut the budget.

I still watch. I don't expect a whole heckuva lot from it as I understand it's nothing more than a banquet. I think it's interesting to see the drivers achievements celebrated. Where it is has no bearing on its entertainment value from my couch.

I think there's something else I watch when it airs. I probably should record it. The re-airing edits out any controversial shots.

With the Hall of Fame, and near the headquarters of most teams, Charlotte makes the most sense. Burnouts in front of the HOF anyone? It would save money for most teams and there would be less travel time for most drivers. As far as race fans, it could provide the best experience because while in town for the banquet, shops can be visited plus the HOF.

Gordon is probably going to make it in this year. I don't want to miss his being inducted and his speech if possible.

Why not in Miami? Have it on a Tuesday or Wednesday. You could have activities at Bayside marketplace, have a Q&A at Adrienne Arsht Center, take a parade lap and burnout but the American Airlines arena and have the awards at one of the hotels there.

I think you've confused the end-of-season awards banquet with the HoF banquet. Different ceremonies. We're discussing the awards banquet, and Jeff won't be speaking at it regardless of his HoF admission.
