NASCAR drops the hammer on Hamlin

I expected a lot more...if you are going to put yourself out there in front of millions of people, you walk the walk when you talk the talk. Grubb needs to hit the road if Joe didn't know about it.

It will show up on the big track this week, no matter who or what who says. What makes it even more interesting and harmful, is that ol man Gibbs is always wrapping himself in the flag and waving the bible. not a good representation as far as I am concerned. His teams have been caught before and nothing happens to the cheaters on his team, so I gather that it is ok with Joe as long as you don't get caught. Moral of the story? Keep your religious affiliations anonymous at the level of press, radio, TV and films. You can do more harm than good.
The Gibbs cars may not do well at Pocono, but not because of the penalty stuff. They're really just not that good there. Of the 3 JGR drivers, Denny's really the only one who's had past success there, and even that's been awhile.

I'm of the thought that had they been caught cheating on a race in which they qualified for the Chase with the win, that win should be taken away.

Detail: NASCAR reserves the right to “maybe” not award a driver a victory in case of post-race technical issues. Points may be docked and that victory may not count toward advancing to the next round.

Why: Nothing new here. It's been forever since a Sprint Cup driver lost a victory to a tech issue. Big money is taken and points forfeited, but the victory is allowed to stand. The biggest problem here would be a loss of points and the disallowing of an “advance” victory that could end a driver's Chase at any moment.

Any benefit the driver might gain from a win is eliminated in this kind of situation pending appeal.

In the context of NASCAR, what JGR is judged to have done is a big deal. In the context of the rest of the world, not so much. Before somebody goes off, we don't know the context of the "infraction", so we really can't tell if any risk Denny may have incurred was intentional. Intentionality in the eyes of NASCAR is irrelevant. In the eyes of the supreme being of your choice, probably a bigger deal. Coach is a good dude, and walks the talk IMO.

Atleast when JJ fans find out his team pushed too far into the grey zone, they admit it.

No. But maybe start the chase with -5 points or start the first round of the chase without his crew chief. Not be penalized during the regular season.
This probably makes the most sense. Hell, even if he was docked the whole 75 at the start of the Chase, it would pretty much just mean he would have to win at Chicagoland, New Hampshire, or Dover to move forward.

Kinda like the Bowyer penalty last year. I don't think he should have lost his Chase berth, but I do think his 50 point penalty should have been applied post-reset and he should have started last year's Chase with 1,950 points. Applying the penalty pre-reset basically means he got off scot-free, kinda like Denny essentially is.

True, on the old pavement Denny was the pretty much the best. Since its been redone, they don't seem to have a handle on it. Although Joey won there in a JGR car, go figure.

Did Kurt's penalty put his driver's safety at stake, as much as Denny's?

If a ball-and-stick team cheated during a regular season game, would they start their first playoff game down by 20 points?

Athletes and teams can be banned from the postseason altogether.

Edit: I don't think the #11 team should be banned from the Chase or lose their win or anything, but it's happened in other sports. But NASCAR put themselves in this box with the new Chase format and I'm honestly surprised another team didn't try anything so drastic earlier.

Just waiting' on the appeal. It is interesting that some put so much faith in NASCAR and its processes yet support the RTA. Fascinating.
TRD wasn't penalized. JGR was.

hell, Nascar has some of the blame here, teams have to pay them to inspect the car..that suck's IMO. They should have caught that before the car hit the track

Here's a reason for me to love the RTA. Fire all of the inspectors to save money while of course, saving money on hotels, flights, and insurance.

So far the RTA, like the penalty appeal process, and other assorted whines, appear to be toothless. I don't see a chink in Nascar's armor, plenty of pebble throwing from around these parts and we have our own mr. fix it thread, but so far Grubb is taking a vacation and his load has been lightened. I think the fix is in. Chase time we might get to see positions taken away. the edict has been written about that, they drew a line in the sand..no monkey bidness.

We will see how long that lasts with Chad et al. rolling around. Part of the game brother, and I am good with it.

Earlier you were waiting for the proof & details if the illegal parts. Now youre waiting for the appeal. Whats next, the 2nd coming?

Okay, StandOnIt. But they obviously are trying to emulate it with their "playoffs" for the intents and purposes of TV ratings, so the comparison is fair.
Wrong. Nascar drivers still earns a playoff spot based on points. No stick & ball sport does that.

Stick & ball sports also dont play every single team every week on different fields. So gtfo

The proof is in the details, and we don't have any. Look, I am not saying that the #11 didn't break a rule, but what matters to me is the intent. I don't give a **** if NASCAR or anybody else cares about intent, I do. I trust that something was amiss on the #11, but all of this bull**** about trying to kill Denny, insane amounts of downforce that is the reason behind the JGR turn around, etc. necessitates more detail than NASCAR spewing line and verse from their rulebook. I posted that I would be shocked if JGR appealed. They did. I want to know why before I am done with this.

i'm waitin til pocono.
will jgr indy speed re-appear ?

exactly, i have been yapping quite a bit about that, there's your proof as far as I am concerned. I liked them better last year when they were exploding and they can't weigh connecting rods. this year they have been quietly slow until last weekend and BAM Nascar puts the whammy on them. toyotas have been good for Nascar, spin gate, rocket fuel, kabooms, and now the flapper car.

Still holding onto all three JGR's with plate issues? SMH. NASCAR inspected. Wrong on the speed. Fast at Kentucky, New Hampshire, and now Indy. Four of five TRD powered Toyotas in Chase position. You forgot to mention the JGR 40 lb. oil pans. Yer slippin'. I would rattle off all of the bull**** Ford, Chevy, and Dodge teams have been up to over the years, but you know what? I don't care enough to keep track. It's part of the game, and I don't get into their **** for it. Interesting how when a Toyota team pulls something, it's a big deal.
