Tony Stewart is the only one on that list that is definitely a no doubt HOFer
A question was asked of Mike Joy about Kirk being "removed" from the list. Here is Mike's answer ---Is Dale Earnhardt’s old crew chief Kirk Shelmerdine in the HOF? Is he nominated? He won 4 Winston Cups and was obviously pretty successful with Dale
Yeah. They cant keep putting 5 guys a year.If they have a base of HOF'ers they're satisfied with, they may want to consider reducing the number they let in each year.
Yeah. They cant keep putting 5 guys a year.
Ron Hornaday is in it and no offence but the truck series shouldn't get you in the HOF
I have to disagree.I mean, it's a Top Three NASCAR series. It should count.
4 Truck series championships, three season top 5's in Xfinity and he did a lot to help many drivers get their start in Nascar. Yeah he earned his spot.I mean, it's a Top Three NASCAR series. It should count.
If it were named, NASCAR Cup Series Hall Of Fame, I would be in 100% agreement with you, but its not, so I can't .I have to disagree.
I've always been of the opinion that for the Hall to actually mean something it should like other hall of fames and be very difficult to get in. Only the truely great. In NASCAR for me that means Cup series. As good as Xfinity and Truck races can be theyre still the minor league.
Just because most of Ron's success came in the lower series does not diminish his accomplishments.
Comparing it to the Cup level, so of course it would diminish it , but that is like comparing a V8 to a four banger, not really fair.I would say that it absolutely does diminish the accomplishments, relative to Cup standards. I'm not going to equate four Truck championships to a single Cup championship.
However, it doesn't negate the accomplishments. A strong case can also be made that the Trucks were a tougher series during most of Hornaday's prime than it is now. As you say, it is not just the Cup HoF, and it is good to recognize the sport's most impactful figures at each major level.
