NASCAR movie in the works

So what's the movie about? Here's how producer Neal Edelstein, who's working with NASCAR Vice President Zane Stoddard on the project, described in broad terms what he termed the "underdog story:"
"The story is about kind of a misfit kid who was into racing as a youth because of his father's passion for the sport. And his father's death ... pushed him out of the sport and he's a bit of a loner now, kind of on the fringes, [doing] dirt-bike riding, doing odd jobs involving racing and testing and motorcycles. So it becomes really his journey to kind of harness his ability, harness his emotions, and he gets back into the sport ... with the help of some people his father was involved with," Edelstein said. Stoddard added that the driver in the story has "this inherent skill that his dad passed on. But he's turned his back on the sport" as a result of his dad's death. It would be a contemporary movie and its working title is "Finding Speed."

Wow,that sounds worse than "At Any Price".

The best stock car themed movie I've seen is "3 Weeks to Daytona". Very low budget and it's corny in parts but every scene in the movie tells a story.

Hopefully the next NASCAR movie won't have any all kid pit crews, drivers in chicken suits, cars being built in barns, or doofuses running around in their underwear.

Rush is pretty good. Days of Thunder was OK (all other NASCAR movies were pretty bad). Gran Prix is still the best movie.

I'd think if they listen to a bunch of Ken Schrader stories they could come up with something entertaining.

Robert Duvall and that roll cage is a fav scene of mine

Love the scene where Cole is going through the field and the camera goes to Nicole Kidman and she says "GO COLE!".

Days of Thunder was cheesy as hell but people liked it and it grew interest in Nascar.
Talladega Nights was funny, but it made Nascar the butt of the joke. TV ratings plummeted after Talladega Nights came out.

DoT portrayed Nascar as noble, honorable thing for tough, hardscrabble people. Talladega Nights portrayed Nascar as a stupid, pathetic thing for stupid, trailer trash losers.

Talladega Nights was a funny movie, I liked it, but it was a huge mistake by Nascar. The movie wasn't laughing with Nascar, it was laughing at it. In many ways, Nascar is still trying to live that movie down.

Ask a random person about Nascar and odds are decent they mention Ricky Bobby. It was a good movie. It was a hit. Struck a cultural chord. But it really put Nascar in a box and a lot of casual fans drifted away, not wanting to be associated with something that everybody was laughing at.

I think nights was more for NASCAR fans than to attract new ones... I know I laugh ym ass off every time... "hang on I'm just gona make a phone call and have a sandwich and I'll be right back" :XXROFL: "Help me baby jesus!"

Maybe a fiction movie of a female who switches from one form of racing to NASCAR and after a few rough seasons, wins there Championship. Fiction,I said.

Oh, good grief. Does EVERY SINGLE THREAD on this silly site have to turn in to either a Danica bashing thread, a Joey Logano lovefest or a Kyle Busch lovefest?

Oh, so a Lifetime movie?:D Would've been nice to see a good, realistic movie about NASCAR. Maybe something based on the late 80's, which is probably my favorite era of NASCAR. I liked Days of Thunder for what it was, never seen Talladega Nights and never will.

The movie will be called mayflower.

Meth, stupid decisions and teh such will be involved

Realistic big block era NASCAR movie would be all that I'd pay to watch. Documentary type, not some Hollywood BS money maker.

Best Scenes from "days of thunder".
1. Nicole Kidman

The other best part:
Cole Trickles injury, if he had only died on the spot.

The worst part:
After the disappointment of his survival realizing there was more canned manure to endure.

They are after the younger audience. The Travis Pastrana story starring Justin Bieber. They will have to rewrite the ending, but it should fit the demographic perfectly.

I was never able to watch the entire movie and I tried 3 times

I've heard everybody talk about how great a movie "Grand Prix" was. I've never seen it, but I happened to notice it was on Turner Classic Movies last night. It's sitting in my DVR, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Far and away the best racing scenes in a racing movie ever.

If you have a good sound system use it to hear the engines rev, it is mesmerizing.
