Guys, I had no idea it was going to be THIS tight. It's INSANE how tight it is...here's a little perspective...

From the current Auto Club outside wall to the pit road wall (the outside wall of the future track) it's 315 feet

To put that in perspective...here's some other tracks-

Bristol- 575 feet
Martinsville- 420 feet
Stafford Springs, CT (asphalt half mile)- 530 feet
Seekonk, MA (asphalt QUARTER MILE)- 410 feet
Monadnock, NH (high-banked QUARTER MILE)- 330 feet

I can't think of a track REMOTELY close to this long and this tight. This is totally unproven in motorsports as far as I'm aware. Your local bullring *might* have a tight enough radius...now double the distance of the straightaways.

I'm not sure i'm following you.... Using google maps, at the start finish line, the outside wall at Martinsville to the pit wall (where the crews jump over the wall) is about 100'...... using the scale at the bottom of the page. Is that what you're talking about?? I'm trying to find out where 420' came from.... just asking..
 
I wonder if the drivers will change down one gear for the corners, or two gears? Will have a close-ratio six speed gearbox, right?
 
I knew it reminded me of something. I had to change racing forms to remember the track for the International 500. Similar dimensions but 1 mile long

If NASCAR does end up rotating the Championship race like a Super Bowl or NCAA College Football Championship, California should make the list after it’s “renovation”. So I would go with a rotation of Homestead, Phoenix, California, Atlanta to host the last race each year. I’d also listen to Texas be made a case for.
 
Atlanta will never make that list. It has the potential to get too cold. Who wants to go freeze their ass off to watch a race? Especially the last one thats the most important.

So you mean its gotten colder ?, Atlanta was hosting races in the first two weeks of Nov since the 70's, 2001 ,the last time Atlanta hosted the last race of the season it was ran on 11/18/01( because of 9/11 it wasn't the last race with New Hampshire getting postpone)

The season ending race was there for years. And the season will be ending now earlier in November, late October. And I know what freezing is, freezing is here in Chicago from Thanksgiving to about Mid April. 40 and 50 degrees with sun shining in Atlanta is not freezing.

Texas should definitely be on a short list.

The way climate change is going here, it could be summer in AMS every November. We have record shattering winters every year. Average temperatures in the 50s, average temperatures now in the 70s. The climate changes are extreme.

I kind of wish they’d gone for a bit bigger like 4/5 mi or something but hopefully this works.

As to Daytona and Talledega, when your super speedways have more tradition than good racing, it’s not a good look.

Ive often wondered if eliminating stages at those two tracks would improve the quality of the races.

I was at this game... it was kind of a freak snowstorm that went from predictions of an inch or two to dumping about a foot of snow in a few short hours. Epic day!

on topic, I absolutely think they should rotate the championship track.

Nobody wants to go to the final championship race of the season and it be cold. And yeah it would suck sitting in the stands with the temp 40 or 50*. People pay good money to go and they want to enjoy the race. It will be in warmer climates where there's no chance of cold temps. Bank on it. I don't care what the past history of races at Atlanta were and I don't care that Martinsville can be freezing in March. This race is different and Atlanta will never be considered for this reason. It's the same reason they never play super bowls in cold climes.

Well the Super Bowl was held in New York not too long ago and Goodell said they’d consider going back... So that’s wrong. The only thing I’m going to bank on is how completely wrong your premise is. You don’t care about past races? That’s all I need to know that you’re wrong because history showed the season ender was there for years, there’s no reason NASCAR can’t have the Championship race there again, especially when the speedway does the inevitable repave and maybe even goes back to its old layout as fans requested. Also where are the numbers to back up when you say “No Nobody would go to this race in October/November”...did you do polling or a survey? Is there polling I missed that NASCAR did for fans? Are you on the schedule committee ? Do you work for the track in Atlanta? Your whole premise seems like a HUGE generalization. I’ll leave you the daily average day time weather in Atlanta for late October to early November: 60.8 degrees. Now where I’m at that’s not cold, maybe to you that is but at that point we are at a personal difference of a preference

There also is the possibility of hotels, a casino and amusement parks being added around the track. I hypothesize this could only help if/when NASCAR decides to rotate their Championship race

Will also add that Lambeau has been on the bidding list since 2015 and Green Bay has been planning on improving lodging since then in order to be approved. A Lambeau Super Bowl will happen eventually

Hot, warm, cold; y'all must be talking about the water temperature you wash your clothes in, since NASCAR hasn't made a sound about rotating the championship between tracks.
