Oh Chris, I'm having a hard time swallowing this explanation.

Hmmm.... yeah those things can get tricky.. they're only like a foot or two away from that part of the car with a tire guy in between them maybe the gas man kicks it back in on the left side?wonder why the same jackman doesn't bend the other side out with the jack?
These cars are still 'crabbing' down the straightaways. The drivers side flared out wouldn't be any aero advantage. They were talking about this a while back on SiriusXM's afternoon show with one of the crew chiefs.wonder why the same jackman doesn't bend the other side out with the jack?

I cant see how it wouldnt help... the cars can be more free and able to turn the corner without having to worry as much about the car coming around on them with that part adding some side force to the car. Not much but I assume it has to help a bit, dont see how it wouldn't.. even with the cars dog legging. These cars are still 'crabbing' down the straightaways. stick your hand out the window at 60 MPH today..they are going over three time that speedI cant see how it wouldnt help... the cars can be more free and able to turn the corner without having to worry as much about the car coming around on them with that part adding some side force to the car. Not sure u get that Im agreeing with u lol.... I said can't see how it wouldN'T help.....stick your hand out the window at 60 MPH today..they are going over three time that speed
Well... maybe they should have... but I dont think its cheating..Yeah , I doubt that Joey intentionally cheated , but Bowyer and Johnson ?? Oh Yeah.
HorseFace2 should be your username thenDoesn't bother me whatsoever... if everyone can do it... no problem. Just glad my guy got to take advantage first

It was explained that it is because the air is not hitting the left side of the car the same as it is on the right with the car running @ the angle that it tracks. I'm sure all of the aero engineers on this forum can explain it better than the Cup crew chiefs can so I'll leave that to them. I was simply relaying what I had a chance to hear on this subject.I cant see how it wouldnt help... the cars can be more free and able to turn the corner without having to worry as much about the car coming around on them with that part adding some side force to the car. I get that.... not saying you or anyone is wrong.. I just think theres more to it.It was explained that it is because the air is not hitting the left side of the car the same as it is on the right with the car running @ the angle that it tracks. Oops! How'd that happen? lolHere's how it is done.
you also said not much of an advantage, that is why I said stick your hand out the car window at 60 mph, and remember they are going over three times that fast. It is a huge improvement in opposing side and down force. Not sure u get that Im agreeing with u lol.... I said can't see how it wouldN'T help.....
Officials are blindHere's how it is done.
The wall knocked it back in place thoughDale Jr's car had it the next week.
I don't like the tire spear effect.
Yeah, that's my only concern.Waiting for it to take out a tire
Jr's exhaust pipes took out Gordon's tire at Bristol last year. There's no doubt this blade sticking off the car can do the same damage. As anal as NASCAR is, I'm totally surprised they arent up in arms about it.
Also, I wonder if this was the difference in Larson not being able to catch Logano or not (as long as Larson's skirt was still flat)? They seemed pretty even. Does it even make a difference?
I'm buds with one engineer and he's chemical. No help from themAt the speeds they are running it has to make some difference but aero is much to complex for me
Ask some of your college buddies and see what they think

Gotta go to the engineering professor's list to find someone to email. I might just do that....
Maybe, if NASCAR was racing at real racetracks and not open wheel brobdingnagians, NASCAR teams wouldn't have to look for ways to find an aerodynamic advantage. And maybe then, we'd get some real racing where drivers can race side-by-side, not have to be 80 feet away from another car, and can get back to the days of trading paint and stuff.

This post reminds me of a line in an old move "Slap Shot"Maybe, if NASCAR was racing at real racetracks and not open wheel brobdingnagians, NASCAR teams wouldn't have to look for ways to find an aerodynamic advantage.
