in light of recent events where in the charlotte xfinity race jones tears the wall down & brings out the yellow, but Kyle Busch wrecks the same way in cup & no caution...

I present:



 
Sadly, nothing new.
 
The caution they threw earlier in the race when one of the back markers hit the wall seemed far less severe than Buschs contact. 95% of the time they throw a caution in that situation, especially when the race has been more boring than watching paint dry. I'd prefer cautions for none of these things, but whether there is a caution or not shouldn't depend on the popularity of the leader.
 
This falls into the category, 'Things I Have No Control Over And Therefore Don't Think About Too Much'

There is nothing inconsistent. When it's late in a race, they're more inclined to stay green.

Yes to both of these things. It's not going to change, the drivers all know what the unwritten rules are, so just go with it.
 
Kids are so hung up on the need for rulings to be consistantly. Sports need judgement calls to keep things interesting . Computer games are so stupidly consistant .

Agree completely. IMO stick and ball sports are in the process of being ruined with stupid replays. Additionally, we seem to demand consistency in sports while the laws of our land are inconsistent by design---it's called the legal system.
 
In order to be consistently accurate with application of the caution flag all that's required is the red. Stop the race, inspect the racing surface, the walls / safer barriers and any cars that appear to possibly be shedding pieces. Identify all discovered debris in order to ascertain its potential for damage or injury, photograph all of it and communicate findings and photos to race control.

A brief committee meeting will result in the correct decision every time. Implement by instruction to the flag person and a press release to all credentialed members of the media, two Facebook entries and 3 or 4 Tweets.

Don't forget to throw in a lug nut check.
 
I could care less. It is what it is. Just happy Truex didn't get screwed over this time. Bout damn time they sealed the deal.

This is not like an umpire missing a ball an inch off the plate, it's like a ball that hits the backstop being called a strike at random. I hate replay too, but only because it doesn't seem like officials in other sports play favorites.

Big picture....didn't matter. Used to call that a good "no call" until replay took that from us.
 
a water bottle out of the groove taking a victory away? sorry I don't excuse that. And these caution for debris that come out of nowhere for no reason and they never show the debris....what is that?

Excellent point. Sports survived for decades before instant replay. The sad thing is, replay in sports such as football, have arguably convoluted and jacked up decision making more so than human error ever has.
 
I think Nascar uses debris cautions at times to add drama, I am glad they didn't last night. I understand the criticism and I get frustrated too.

But it will never be in a state that satisfies all. And every form of motorsports that I been involved with had some questionable calls, along with complaints of favortism. And there will always be a need for judgement calls, it will always be a part of the deal. And I do think Nascar is trying to be less subjective, or more systemic or consistent with running the races.

But we will always have to have someone that can make instant caution or instant non caution calls. And that is a thankless task for the most part loaded with liabilities. In addition to this when the right choices are made most of the time, most take it for granted and assumes it just happened naturally with very little foresight.

Nobody is perfect including Nascar. I am just happy that Nascar allowed the racing to happen honestly last night even though it was a runaway.

Kyle seemed to be kinda close to pit lane when he wrecked. They probably could have thrown the yellow but Kyle made it to pit lane pretty quickly.

Now don't yell at me, it's just my opinion.
 
Looks like I'm in the minority of opinions here. I'd like to see less favoritism / bias and more consistency from race officials.

At least they stopped throwing the caution just as Dale or Danica were about to go a lap down, or sitting in position to receive the lucky dog. --- facepalm for having to type lucky dog.

Saturated soils beneath the structural base cause the moisture present in the base to overwhelm the storm water drainage system ... assuming there is one.

In the civil construction business. A common problem for us.

Absolutely crazy that Nascar would have to throw extra caution flags just to be consistant with throwing them in the past . Please , let's leave it to the race officials' judgement , not the stupid fans who are only concerned with their favorite driver and not the rest of the field.
 
The free pass was called ''Mongo'' shortly after being implemented. Mongo was a logo on the hood of Jimmy spencer's car. He got the first free pass, or one of the first free passes, and one of the idjits in the booth, DW IIRC said something about Mongo. That started the Mongo phase and when that sponsor left it morphed into the Lucky Dog

JMO, but as a longtime Nascar observer I believe that if consistent decision making from a sanctioning body is important to you then it is time to find another game. Inconsistencies abound in Nascar from on track decisions to the application of the rules whatever they may be. Some people believe that Nascar does its best when it comes to making split second decisions while most simply cannot ignore what their eyes see and their ears hear.

Nascar has elements of sport (winners and losers), of a show (managing races) and fantasy (the method they use for crowning a champ) so if you come from the stick and ball world a lot of what Nascar does can be confusing and maddening as it inherently makes no sense. In the S&B world you have video analysis, replays and oversight from officials in a central location to make sure the game is being called correctly. It is not perfect but there is transparency especially when a league like the NFL can say "we bungled a call and it likely altered the outcome of the game. Can you imagine Nascar ever coming forth publicly and admitting a mistake? Can you imagine a time when Nascar would allow anything to be done at arm's length?
 
Skoal, you're just piling on, ranting because you may not like certain decisions. Fantasy, my ass. And Nascar just a couple weeks ago admitted they bungled a call on a restart. If you want hockey, go watch hockey.
