Nationwide winner, points or no points?

To be honest, I'm starting to get to the point where I'd severally limit how much CUP/NNW/CTS races I watch and watch more Whelen Modified races and local track races.

It's starting to get to a point where NNW and CTS is nothing more than a joke and NASCAR "Fixes" are making a bad situation worse.

I don't watch Nationwide anymore unless Danica's racing (because when she's running, the guys in the booth lay off their KB man crush and crush on her).

Truck racing -- I rarely watch anyways. It used to be exciting but when they quit racing at tracks like SoBo, Mansfield, Memphis, Richmond, I-70 and swapped them out with tracks like Chicago, Kansas, Kentucky, Talladega and Texas, it became boring. The trucks aren't meant to race on superspeedways. When they do, there's like 6 cars on the lead lap and the results are known by lap 7.

I go to Manassas a lot. When that track closes, I'm no longer going to watch NASCAR. Big league NASCAR racing sucks and it would be way too expensive to go to short tracks when ODS closes and I have to drive four hours to go anywhere.

Some of these tracks (Nashville Fairgrounds, Manassas) might not be in the position they're in if NASCAR didn't make the tracks pay to have touring divisions race there. Get an ARCA race or NASCAR K&N race to Manassas and it will sell out. We're already getting higher car counts than every other track (dirt and asphalt) in Maryland and Virginia.

Two options: Don't let owners points count if a Cup driver is in the car and don't allow Cup drivers to get prize money for any position in Nationwide or Trucks. This will severely limit their involvement... I don't care what the KyBu lovers on TV say, it is about the money. If there was no financial benefit, they would not run it... why do you think KyBu, Logano, Hamlin, Edwards, Menard, Kahne, Harvick and the others don't run the nine ARCA races?
BINGO! It's all about the relatively easy money. Since one of the main contributors to the problem is the sponsors, it's kind of hard to effectively govern.

My solution: No car with a Cup Raider in the seat has a guaranteed spot. All cars with Cup Raiders have to "qualify their way in. Since these guys claim they're running the BGN and CTS because "They just love to race," let them put their money where their mouths are. Since these guys are the reason so many fans are coming to the BGN and CTS races let the Cup raiders really profit from their involvement, let them race for a percentage of the gate. They're the reason NA__AR tells us people come the those races anyway, right? Let's see how that would work out...
A BGN ticket is around $37.00

Let's say they sell 30,000 tickets

That's $111,000

This year the purse at Nashville was $772, 991 and five Cup Raiders in the Chosen 35 in Cup took home a total of $154,700, or about 20% of the total purse. Since these guys say they aren't in it for the money but for the love of racing let's award them 20% of the gate, or in the example above, or about $22,000. Split that evenly five ways, that would give the Cup Raiders $4,440 apiece for their efforts, and gives the BGN regulars $750,991 in prize money, vice the $618,291 total they actually earned this past race.

Before you start pitying the poor underpaid Cup drivers remember these guys are also getting compensated by their sponsors above and beyond the purse money.

No guaranteed start, no points and a monetary reward for their assistance based on putting butts in the seats This is what NA__AR tells us they are in there, right? (Would NA__AR tell us an untruth?). Plus, look at the fun they have racing! Sounds like a fair deal to me.

Let's read Elliott Sadler's take on this subject:

Elliott Sadler happy at KHI, says give Nationwide regulars time to win before knocking points system

Sadler said not to judge the Nationwide points system just yet and that if one looked at the Cup standings, there are several drivers in contention for that title who have not won this year as well.

This is the first year in which drivers must choose one national series to earn points. As a result, most Cup regulars do not earn points in the Nationwide Series.

“We’ve run eight races,” Sadler said. “Let’s run the whole season and dissect it then. You’ve got to give us a little bit more of a fair shake. … At the end of the year, if no Nationwide regulars win a race … there will be an argument.”

The Cup drivers have a bigger advantage than he realized before running solely in the Nationwide Series, Sadler said.

“I know one thing, it is a big-time advantage – and I see this because I’ve been on both sides of the fence – to running both cars every weekend, too, because the Cup car is heavier, it’s got more horsepower and you’ve got more track time,” Sadler said.

“You get out of a Cup car and get in a Nationwide car and it feels like you can throw that thing around and manhandle it a lot easier. It’s a huge advantage for those guys to come back and race in the Nationwide Series. I didn’t really realize it that much until I’m on this side of the fence.”

Sorry, I don't buy Sadler's rationale, when it comes to "Give the BGN regulars a chance to win..." What he actually seems to be saying is an egocentric, "Let Elliott Sadler have a chance to win..." They haven't won a title since 2005. I won't go into the exact records but I bet a BGN regular hasn't won more than 15% of the races since 2005. I'd say that they've been given enough of a chance to win and they are plainly out spent and way behind the power curve on technical assistance. (They don't have the Cup team affiliation, which in conjunction with the Cup experience, usually makes them "Also rans.")

He is right in my opinion about the Cup drivers having a distinct advantage. But the record plainly shows just how outclassed the regular BGN teams and drivers are. We don't need to go this full season to find out what we already know. Besides, he's running for a team which has the power of RCR's (read: Harvick's) technical support and sponsorship connections behind him. Yeah, he'll probably win a race. I won't be impressed. let's see another Cup driver in BGN-level equipment, Joe Nemechek, win a race. THEN, I might be a little more sympathetic.

It seems to me that Elliott is trying to put a smiley face of a very biased situation.

Anyone else think sadler will be shown the door later on if he keeps running 10-15 every race? I know he's 6th in points but as we've seen before Kevin isn't the most patient person in the world.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Who can he put in there that will earn points for the rest of the season?

I think he's safe for a while. That 38th place finish @ Daytona crushed him in the points and he's been playing catch up ever since. He is 6th in points but on 5 points back. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him be crowned the paper champion of the Nationwide series at the end of the season.

Only 5 cars on the lead lap, 4 out the top 5 were Cup guys. Nascar you are doing a great job!:sarcasm:

I think just three out of five. They allow Sadler to earn points. Still, I get your point.

As far as NASCAR doing a great job. They are definitely going to get what they wanted, a Nationwide regular will win the championship, just as they designed. In the meantime we'll continue to watch the winner earn 0 points week after week. Regardless of anyone's opinion as to whether or not these Cup drivers should be running in the Nationwide Series, they are there, they are winning, they should get points IMO.

The number of cars on the lead lap had nothing to do with the over half the race before a caution came out did. Plus the Nationwide guys were up there until the end when they all ran out of gas, Stenthouse and Almirola both were top 5 cars.
