NBC coverage still TERRIBLE

It is very repetitive and predictable and you would think that some network honcho would try and fix things but like so many other things no one seems to care.

A lot of broadcasters are that way.

Hell, there used to be something called "The Brent Musburger Drinking Game" during ABC's BCS Championship broadcasts. He's always say the same things.

"You are looking live at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas"
"(Quarterback) fires at (receiver)"
"It's a foot race"
"The big fella is looking for daylight"
"There you have it folks"
"Touchdown" (20 minutes before the back or receiver hits the endzone)
"That's a 15 yard penalty in the college game"
"The Crimson Tide of Albama"
"Down to my man, Jack Arute"

Maybe we'll just do a Rick Allen drinking game so y'all can enjoy the races more.

Drink a shot when Rick says:
"Green flag back in the air!"
"They're three wide!"
"SIDWAYS"

Drink five shots when Rick says:
"Into the wall he goes"

That sounds like fun.

LOL, so true. I specifically remember a game several years ago, Penn State at Ohio State. PSU was a heavy underdog and had backup QB Matt McGloin playing because the starter was injured. They were playing well, particularly on offense. Musburger kept gushing over McGloin, blown away by the "moxie" he was apparently showing. Musburger said moxie at least 10 times that day when talking about McGloin.

Sportscasters in general seem to swoon over one player it seems.

I'll never forget a game on ESPN when they talked about how perfect Tony Romo's incomplete passes were. They'd sit there and dissect how amazing Romo's throw was or his poise or something.

Me: "But... he missed his target by like three feet"

For five straight years, Kyle Busch was the most talked about driver on Fox broadcasts. Even though Jimmie Johnson or Kevin Harvick were winning all the races, would always talk about Kyle. If Kyle made a pass, Darrell Waltrip would spend four minutes explaining how amazing Kyle's pass was and he's the greatest ever. If Kyle turned someone, Darrell would have a six minute excuseapalooza as to why it wasn't Kyle's fault. If Kyle wrecked himself, Darrell would explain how the car jumped out, or how the tire went flat for a brief second, or how the wall moved. :XXROFL:

And, to be honest, Jeff Gordon was that obnoxious when it came to Chase Elliott.

"I'm biased towards Chase Elliott" ... yeah, Jeff, we figured that out at Daytona.

It's great as long as they are talking about drivers I like. When they talk about drivers I don't like it really sucks and they need to stop doing that.

DW has had a hard-on for KyBu forever. Jeff loves Chase because he knows him on a personal level and Chase took over his ride. Nothing really surprising.

how much control does nascar have ove rthe announcers?

also sponsors could easily say "hey fox here'es 2 millions to talk about our driver the most"

That explains it.

I wonder why I never thought of that?

ESPN Sportscenter reported how Dick Trickle did every race for awhile when they reported NASCAR race results (those guys didn't like racing).

If I remember correctly Keith Olbermann jumped on that with both feet. There were definitely some at ESPN that did not hide derision for NASCAR.

I think NBC's overall coverage is gpod (excluding commercials), but their announcers are more awful than....well, awful. I'll take DW any day over the NBC trio.
I just joined this forum and I am pleased that others are dissatisfied with the NBC coverage. Like the poster above, I do not mind the camera work and so forth, but the announcers are bland and dreary. Compared to Fox's presenters, they are sleep-inducing. I cringe whenever the two women open their mouths. Kyle Petty is a no-talent. I do wish Fox were able to broadcast all of the races.
