NBC's NASCAR team begins to take shape

I agree with most here in that I like Bestwick doing the play by play. I like Andy Petree and DJ for the analysis, they're both straight up and call it how they see it. It's also nice to have a former CC and driver's perspective and both of whom were good at what they did.

I just can't stand Kyle Petty and his incessant ramblings, I'd ditch him Rusty, Daugherty and even Ray. I like the opinions but they bring but I don't think they provide any intelligent insight. Ray's always talking about "well when I was with Jeff blah blah blah". Brad D doesn't know a torque wrench from a tire iron and Rusty just likes to hear himself talk.

Thing about Rusty is, he's usually right.

Wally's good enough that he could do the PxP. He was better at that than Bill Weber was when Billy was in the booth. :lol2:

If Rick Allen's the front-runner at NBC, I think we now know why ESPN let Marty Reid go the way they did. Allen Bestwick does IndyCar on ABC and maybe College Football on ESPN. Rick Allen goes to NBC. Adam Alexander or Bob Dillner replaces Rick Allen on Fox Sports 1.

No Adam Alexander!!! Or Rick Allen for that matter. They both aggravate the hell out of me:D

Rick Allen's gotten better - a lot better. I really like the style the TNT guys have though.

Sounds to me like NBC's trying to get a younger, hipper, more relevant booth instead of just recycling the same guys who have been around for 20-30 years. And I don't mean that with any disrespect. I kind of like it. Hopefully the pit reporter lineup is a cast of younger faces as well.

NBC's press release says Burton will contribute to NBCSN's NASCAR programming in 2014. Interesting. I wonder if this means they're launching a nightly NASCAR program of if he's doing ARCA coverage?

I don't care who it is if they know racing. The latest trend of pseudo excitement ala Dave Moody, they can leave that somewhere where the sun don't shine.

What no boogity boogity boogity.:( Personally I wish they would put Jimmy Spencer in the booth.

I like Leigh Diffey from the F1 broadcasts. He would add some international flavor to a NASCAR broadcast. I imagine he'll be busy with Indycar and F1 though.

Leigh Diffey on NASCAR? Not just no but hell no.

I'm freaking astonished by whatever Fox is doing here. Now FOX needs a PxP man, maybe two, for Trucks, ARCA and Crappywide since they let Rick Allen get away. And they never did put anyone else on pit road when Dick Berggren retired. And they're probably going to have to find someone to replace Steve Byrnes if he doesn't come back which, sadly, is possible... and even if he does come back, they still have to consider finding someone.

I like the knowledge that Rusty brings to the table.

Rick Allen and Jeff Burton isn't a bad crew so far. At the very least, NBC/NBCSN will have fresh faces up in the booth with Burton debuting as a broadcaster and Allen typically covering lower-tier racing previously. I just wonder what's going to happen to Bestwick. I love that dude...hopefully he ends up calling college football or something.

Someone told me Bestwick called a College Football game this past weekend. I'm guessing Allen is going to do IndyCar on ABC and College Football on ESPN.

I can't resist doing a little chest thumping because NBC just announced Rick Allen as their lead NASCAR announcer! :D
I'm pretty excited about this. I like Rick Allen and I hope Jeff Burton does well alongside him. I wonder who their third analyst will be? Perhaps Wally? He already does the Indycar races for NBCSN if I'm not mistaken.

In keeping with a clean slate , what would you think of a fresh face like Steve Addington?

Isn't he gonna be Allgaier's crew chief next year?

I'd be open to Addington on commentary. Obviously I'm not sure how he would do with it because I don't believe he's ever done it before. That being said, he's a good, smart crew chief that has experience dealing with good but hotheaded/temperamental drivers, so he could probably offer some unique insight in that regard. As 3wide pointed out, the driver/crew chief analyst combo tends to work out well in general because the crew chiefs can offer a different perspective on the race that the drivers wouldn't necessarily have.

Speaking of crew chiefs, I'd love to see Chad Knaus in the booth whenever he eventually retires. That dude is a genius, and he already has TV experience from doing that NASCAR Performance show and This Week in NASCAR. He'd probably be great on commentary.

Without a doubt there will be some sort of nightly racing show on NBCSN. That much will be a given.

I like Rick Allen. I think he reminds me of a Nascar version of Gus Johnson. I can be in another room and know when there is some excitement when Rick Allen is calling a race.

I like a quiet , more thoughtful guy , who can analyize . I like Petree , Craven and DJ . But if they want a fresh face in 2015 , I think Addington may be ready if he doesn't make the chase this year.
