New era!

The ticket prices for a race are normally second on my NASCAR trip list.

1) Fuel (Diesel) - Towing a 5er Toy Hauler
2) Pair of tickets
3) Food
4) RV Campsite
5) Adult beverages

Although my travel trailer was not in the same league as yours I do miss having it several weeks of the year. I have bought one and sold it and bought another one and sold it and it won't be long before I start seeing them for sale as season's end nears. I better keep driving or I might bring something home.

We normally use our 5er a couple times a month and two week long trips a year. We also use it for every NASCAR race we attend. We went from tent>travel trailer>5er>Toy Hauler 5er. Towing about 13,000+ lbs now. Fuel prices are a btch. Kinda funny though, just yesterday my wife and I were detailing our 2008 GMC 2500HD Diesel anticipating an upgraded truck purchase soon. While doing so, I came across my detailed fuel records from late 2008 - early 2009. Diesel prices really weren't all that much lower than around here today. I was kind of surprised as I thought I had remembered it being much cheaper at the time. I'm averaging about 10mpg with that weight behind me. Gets expensive quick to move between point A & B. Someday, we'll go back down in size but it's pretty convenient right now.

You have a really good setup and I like the DuraMax/Allison combination a lot. I know what you mean about fuel though as even when I had a regular cab C1500 with the 34 gallon tank I could still watch the fuel gauge going down and dreaded a head wind. I had never stopped to think about the fuel prices but if memory serves 2008 was a brutal year as I remember 87 octane was $4.35 a gallon in Chicago and about $3.85 in my area.

The nice thing is you get great use from your rig and even though the fuel expense is a pain staying in a motel isn't cheap when you string a bunch of nights together. Also, IMO, you build great family memories when camping plus you get to meet a lot of very nice people who are normally fairly relaxed once they get set up. I love sitting under the awning on a sunny day but I even like it better when it is raining as there is something very peaceful about it to me. I also like the sound of the rain bouncing off the roof if it rains overnight.

Do you think you will get another DuraMax when the time comes to upgrade?

No, not this time. While it was a great engine/transmission combo, the price range is far too high these days. When I purchased ours in the fall 2008, the economy was tanking. I looked at the bill of sale last night. The purchase price on that fully loaded 2500 HD was $31,000. That was a steal! That exact same model in a 2017 is pushing the upper $60's. That's absolutely insane. Probably going with the 2017 F250 Super Duty this time. The price is right and the towing power is there. 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Diesel. My buddy has one that he tows a similar size 5er in weight and length. We normally travel together and he has no problem keeping up.

The fun part is tonight. The deal may be done this evening if they are willing to deal. My truck still has a high trade in value so we'll see how it goes.

I hope the deal goes through for you and if so I know you will love your new ride. $31,000 for your vehicle is insanely low as the sticker on gas models was higher back then so you bargained really well. It is remarkable to me how diesels hold their value as people pay good money for models with 250K on the clock. I will be interested in seeing how it turns out and post lots of pics of the new one when you get it please. I never get tired of looking at someone's new ride whether it is brand new or 20 years old.

The end of every year GM has/had a 'Red Tag' sale. Thousands off the price. With that, and the little movement of higher priced vehicles at the time, they offered further incentives. Yes, the prices was comparable to the price of a gaser at the time. It was the exact right time and right price to pull the trigger. Probably never to occur again.

I'll be turning over 107,000 shortly. That's nothing for a 08'. Mechanically in top shape and well maintained. The interior is flawless. The exterior is good. The undercarriage is most certainly Pennsylvania driven. You'd swear this state holds direct controlling interest in the salt mining industry. What they don't dump on the roadways come December simply falls off the truck on their way to dump it. Our roads/bridges are falling apart while they charge me $40 to pull the damn 5er across the state on one of many toll roads. Ridiculous with a capital and larger than normal 'R'.

This thread, in a nutshell...

I hate NASCAR and I need to go on a forum to tell everyone I hate NASCAR and no longer watch.
Even though I don't eat it, I know I go on to the Everything Broccoli' forum and complain. Doesn't everyone?

I have to admit I have a hard time believing statements from members that say they don't/never watch. I can't imagine being that po''d about the sport yet you would come on to the forum to complain about it. Life's too damn short to be wasting time like that. JMO.

I am AGAIN reminded of the guy I saw at Richmond who apparently watched Jeff Gordon for 400 laps so he could flip him off every time the #24 came by. o_O

There are all sorts of different threads. The other day someone started one about Nascar ratings being up even though they ain't. I take it all in fun and with a grain of salt.

I have never seen people mad at the big 4 stick and ball sports other than when there is a work stoppage and once it is over it is all love again.

Positive. I've got a gray beard and look like a pirate. :D

Don't let 'em give you a hard time Larry...... believe it or not.... I turned down free tickets to the August night race at Bristol 2 times back in the late 90's when the waiting list was 2 years... and it was only a 3 hour drive from here.... just was never a fan of Bristol......

ALERT ALERT! kmartin6, Immediately go to the nearest EMERGENCY Medical center for a complete brain scan! :D
