The ending wasn't Lawrence's fault exactly, the whole quarter was a massive team failure. Also, when the Texans had first and goal from the one, it looked like the Jags were going to let them score before the false start happened. That would have left them with well over a minute needing only a FG. A lot of minor but huge swings in that game late.

The Giants have three or four losses this season that would be the worst loss for most of the rest of the league. He and the rest of his staff will not be missed.

Why are we back to both teams wanting the ball first in OT? With a guaranteed possession, I thought electing to kick first and know exactly what you need possessing second was the new norm.

You want the ball first because it's only a 10 minute quarter. You can go on an 8 minute drive and score a TD and now the second team is left with little time and has to hurry

That's the best argument for it. I think it's context dependent. A team confident that it will score a touchdown is probably better off taking the ball first. A defensive team with a weaker offense may be better off trying to force a punt or a FG and then beat that.

But teams play more conservatively with the first possession regardless, so some are going to take the ball second to give themselves the first chance to win outright.
