Nominees announced for 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame Class:

Was just kinda wondering how current of a driver you want to put in the HoF.

Kyle Busch was layin down some HOF numbers last couple of years , but I think his vote count would be down this year . Might be better to wait till he retires to see what his career looks like .

I would only enshrine the drivers who could drive backwards for the rest of their career and still be a slam dunk to get in. In my book, that would be Tony, JJ and Gordon. Mark Martin would be broder line for early entry.

Interesting how close Mark and Tony are on the all time wins list:
#15...Tony
#16...Bill Elliott
#17...Mark Martin

some of this years nominees
#9...Rusty
#13...Herb Thomas
#14...Buck Baker
#18...Tim Flock
#19...Bobby Issac
#20...Fireball Roberts
#23...Fred Lorenzen
#25...Joe Weatherly
#33...Benny Parsons

My previous post
-Herb Thomas, first two-time NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series champion, 1951, '53
-Tim Flock, two-time NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series champion
-Buck Baker, first driver to win consecutive NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series titles (1956-57)
-Fireball Roberts, 33 NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series wins, including the 1962 Daytona 500
-Toss up for the last spot:
- Rusty Wallace, 1989 NASCAR premier (now Sprint Cup) series champion
- Jack Ingram, two-time NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series champion and three-time Late Model Sportsman champion
Add in : Joe Weatherly
I like Wallace and Ingram two worthy great short track drivers, but in the end I could not pass over Joe Weatherly
Rusty also gets a deduction for giving the world Stephen and spending his money to give us the long nightmare of Stephens driving, lest he can produce papers that shows he ain't really his.

She's still embarrassed about the baby weight. Apparently she's on the 10 year plan. (yes, I realize that if hell existed I'd be headed straight for it)

lol Only a grown woman could get away with calling it baby fat. Since we live in a capitalistic society where competition is the great motivator, I suggest you get a slim mistress and hang her picture in the livingroom.

I figured my own weight loss would be a motivator. I even eliminated junk food from the house. I am hoping her difficulties managing all of the walking at CMS will spur her on.

Maybe Matts wife is really religious and his screen name got her thinking. ;)

Now that right there is funny!

And yes, I am harsh at times. But I am also very patient and supportive. But that stuff isn't as fun to post.:D

I've always felt that HoF sports figures etc, and their fans, should get to enjoy their OBVIOUS HoF status while still playing. The way it is, they only get honored when they are tucked away and out of sight.

The better drivers get to enjoy their time in the spotlight while they are winning. They get to enjoy it a second time when they go into the HOF. I like things just the way they are.

Apparently there was a tie for the 5th inductee in the 2013 @NASCARHall induction class. Panel has to re-vote on 2 names tied for 5th.

I didn't realize that you had made a profound statement like this Fender . Would have been a neat way for Pete Rose to get in before he got caught . Now you have all these ballplayers on steroids who may never get in to the HOF ,they would be already in . This could solve a whole bunch of problems. They could get honored before they get tucked away in jail.

I like it after retirement. I will say older men (and women as needed) as respectfully as possibile, but it is good to leave a later final acheivment imo.

Twenty years after winning a title or a prestigious event is sadly to often forgottten or overlooked. This gives one last moment to enjoy the camaras and the buzz, a little bitter sweet but still sweet like finishing with a good desert.

Congrats to the 2013 @NASCARHall Class: Herb Thomas, Leonard Wood, Rusty Wallace, Cotton Owens & Buck Baker.

I can't believe that Raymond Parks and Red Byron are still not in.

But every candidate that's in deserved to be their at some point.

I'm not talking about baseball, where the typical retirement age is much lower. Many of the great drivers are near 50 when they retire. Besides, people actually got to the baseball HoF. Since nobody goes to the nascar HoF, we need to get these drivers some glory before they fade into the shadows.

I'll flip out when they induct Betty Jane France. We'll know we're close when the media blitz about her charity ramps up.

Well I can only give the panel 40%, they must have missed my previous post.

But all joking aside the 5 inductees for 2013 did some great things, and they deserve to be respected.

I am still surprised that Fireball didnt make it.

Voting percentages: Herb Thomas and Leonard Wood 57 pct each, then Rusty Wallace (52 pct), Cotton Owens (50 pct) and Buck Baker (39 pct).

All but Rusty and Leonard. its too early for them. I cant believe Rusty beat out Fireball and others. I think Nascar just wants to put later people in to identify with younger fans. And before the firestorm starts yes I know its by vote but look closely at who votes. Look at the presidents that got the least votes but won.its called finagleism.

Raymond Parks and Red Byron should be in by now. The fact that there are statues of them inside the HOF says it all.
