Not NASCAR but Daytona related- Crazy!

I could be mistaken but didn’t Rusty Wallace do 228 at Talladega in the early 2000s?
He did, if I recall the video of him talking about it he said it was all kinds of sketchy at that speed.

I also recall him saying he was too scared to do it more than a couple of laps.

EDIT - just Googled it. Car & Driver said TOP SPEED was 228 at the end of the back straight. LAP SPEED was 216, compared with Braun's 222.
 
The published numbers were 228 with an average of 216.309. Rusty says (which might not be true) that he actually came by the start finish line doing 241 with an average of 238. The tires just wouldn't stay on the car.

In race trim you could probably hit 230 on the straights but the corners would be tough. The drafts would be insane, Michigan had huge runs on a 2 mile with lower banking. Add almost an extra mile and 9° more banking and you’d get some ridiculous speeds towards the tri-oval
