Now, I'm excited...

Yes fail. Bill Elliott had a 164 point lead over Alan Kulwicki and a 134 point lead over Davey Allison with 7 races to go. With 2 races to go Bill had a 70 point lead over Davey and and an 85 point lead over Alan so Allison and Kulwicki should never have even been in it to begin with. I think the world of Bill Elliott but the fact is that the #9 team blew it big time in 1992.
With 7 to go there are any number of results possibilities. The idea that the two of them "should never have been in it to begin with" flies in the face of reality.

Reality is why they run the races.

Perspective is important. There are a few ways to look at it. You're going back further in the season than what I was referring to. Not sure about the OP but I know was only thinking about that particular race and that one was Davey's to lose the Championship having entered it with the point lead. The rest is history.

Speaking of which. That had to be one of the most memorable finishes to a season of all time. It was set up naturally to boot. Unlike the made for television championship which tries to recreate that type of moment each and every year. That moment in time is what made that race stand out. Now, not so much.

Boy did you hit the nail on the head as it was really exciting. I was pumped up as Harry Gant ran well that year and gave it all he could before succumbing to the 3 Fords.

Thank you very much for your opinions and insight as they are valued and much appreciated.

Yes, they are.

I would not accuse Aunty of having excessive pride toward or defiance of the gods..................:D

Someone may be alluding to eluding.

Dunno. Kept the chuckle to myownself.

Do think it could be intentional. Ain’t thinkin’ the mod likes it pointed out…...

I dusted off my Funk and Wagnalls and Merriam-Webster in order to participate but decided to whip up some poutine instead. The Doc said I could have a small serving once or twice a year.

Guilty.

Standard stuff for the Type a personality.

This is awesome news. Finally, a game 7 moment regular season champion. This is quintessential Nascar.

I like that the best cars do well. I remember the year Brad K was winning it all and gets taken out of the chase by a back marker. With those extra points he would have survived. Same goes for Kenseth taking out Joey AND Jeff taking out Bowyer which let JJ win the championship.
Those are the things that real race fans get pissed at enough to quit.

In that case, though, Bowyer needed to be taken out, because he'd been doing nothing but wrecking Gordon the entire year. His tyranny needed to be stopped, and he wouldn't listen to reason, so...

Actually Bill Elliott had the championship well in hand and should of had it wrapped up prior to Atlanta.

It's called reliability. Awesome Bill's engineers were a bit less awesome by year's end than they were when he won four in a row early.

Call it what you will but will but the 9 team had things in hand and let it all slip away.

If I recall, if Bill had led three more laps he would have gotten the points for "Most laps led" in the race and would have won the championship...or sumpthin' like that. And without the quick computer calculations for points it was not a done deal until the checker flag waved. If Alan had wrecked on the last lap the championship would have swung. So everyone was on the edge of their seat the entire race. I was always a Bill Elliott fan, but in all honesty between Bill, Alan and Davey all were good guys in my mind so it didn't matter in the long run.

Okay..... recap of the '92 Atlanta Journal..... total of 6 possiblitys for the championship..... Ernie took out Davey..... (which was strange because Ernie took over Davey's car the next year)..... Bill won the race...... but Alan was counting laps led and scored the most points..... Jr. Johnson was pissed off at Tim Brewer for not paying attention....... accused Tim and Flossie of trying to steal his race team..... divorced Flossie and found him a new wife.... had a couple of kids ...... Jeff Gordon's first race.... married a Winston girl...... divorced her and paid millions...... married another one..... had kids...... lots more happened there but I'm sure you guys are all aware.....

A real man would have confronted him and kicked in his shins. Cowards use cars to hide in and then their trailer. At least Kenseth had the blls to sneak up and grab Brad from behind. After looking like a fool he then pulled a repeat
of Jeff Gordon on Joey.

Oh yes, we have heard the song, Flight of the Bumblebees. this was fight of the millionaires. Plane boy jumping chicken man. I'm afraid the days of Nascar having tough guys that race race cars and the fan can be assured of a good fight if it happens are long gone.

That's just you being unwilling to admit that Brad and Joey are supreme douches. And sometimes, it's not enough to just beat someone's face in, their season needs to be voided, especially if they keep wrecking people all through it.
