Oh...BTW...Your Fired

I can't disagree that he did an amazing job this year. He did have an established RCR ride ,a passable team ,something to prove ,and a great crew chief . I think he starts next year with a lot less . Time will tell .
I can't see all of those ego's being teammates and sharing

I don't see that they have a lot to share . Harvick will be in a new ride with a new crew chief too. Tony will be back in Mark's ride and Danica will still be learning . They will all need to shape up real quick or get left behind . I feel a bold prediction shaping up.

Well, lets see.
This is a nascar message board. Sometimes when things happen in nascar, people come here, start threads about it, and give their opinions on what happened. So to answer your question I'd say no, this thread is not a joke.

You being a tire changer for the 78 team was not a joke either, but just an honest mistake.

So what do you do with the 78 team, besides expect nascar fans to give 'unconditional' support to them and nascar?
Hey...wasn't a jab. Sorry if you took it that way. I just had a hard time believing folks actually thought Kurt makes the decisions, and calls the shots like that. Especially now that he's a lame duck. No doubt Kurt's opinion is valuable (as I said earlier, he's wanted a new crew almost all season) but 100% of the decisions are formally put on the table by Joe Garone, and formally approved or denied by Barney Visser. Todd, Cole, Kurt etc will make suggestions, but that's where it ends. Usually, in most cases, the five names I've mentioned are on the same page. That wasn't the case with the timing of the crew.

They'll admit they waited too long to make the change. The problem is, this is the first year with our crew (our own crew) and it just takes time to gel. Probably at least a season or two. We saw that with our old crew (now Danica's crew). The car and driver were WAY ahead of the crew's learning curve. So you're left with a decision...go for a title since this might be a few and far between opportunity.... OR keep plugging away with what you've got as an investment for the future. It was a double edged sword, and unfortunately, the decision to go for broke was probably made a little too late. But make no mistake about it, this decision was not made because Kurt blew into Delaware and demanded change. Far from that.

As for unconditional support to the 78 team and NASCAR...I've never once said either. The unconditional support is for sponsors.

I do marketing. Mostly non-NASCAR, but I do have a few clients in the garage, Kurt being one of them. I read this board for the same reason I read many related sites...just keeping my finger on the pulse of what fans are talking about. Surprisingly, not a lot of my peers do. I don't think they see the value. Ah well.

In terms of actually taking the time to post here... you guys just seem like a good bunch. Even the Kurt haters.

BTW...just a little anecdote...when I first saw Garone at the hauler on Sunday, I told him that there was a thread on a NASCAR message board that blamed Kurt for firing the crew, and was essentially calling him an a**hole for it. He laughed pretty hard, and said "Ha! That figures." Then shook his head and said, "poor Kurt."

According to the article in the op, Kurt said he was the one that approached Garone about it, not the other way around.

"The chemistry among the group it was no one persons fault. As a team, they did not execute. So I talked to (FRR GM) Joe Garone about it and brought in (FRR team owner) Barney Visser and Richard Childress, and we all came to the conclusion together."

Kurt approached Joe, but that happened in May. So it's a bit misleading. These meetings with Kurt, Todd, Joe, Barney and Richard have taken place over the last several weeks, so it was a work in progress, not just a "oh...btw...you're fired" scenario. The change really should have been made earlier - that's on management.

You can attribute the quote to Kurt's maturity. The one I'm sure he wanted to give probably would have been, "I've been banging this f*cking drum for months, and two weeks into the chase they finally listen... too little too late."

Well then lets change the title to "Here...Today...Gone...Tomorrow..."

I said from the first that I thought you were KuBu's damage control coordinator (PR) and I was right, and I have also said a couple of times that you're very good at it and again I was right. Me being right twice on the same subject doesn't happen very often so I'll relish it a bit.

Kurt is gone after this year so why even bother to make the change this late? He's not going to win the chase so this change is now pointless. This really pisses me off.
^ yeah... I don't even...?

The unfortunate thing is that 2014 starts off with the biggest race of the year ,(the Daytona 500), and it's a race where the pit crew can win or lose the race . Starting off with a brand new pit crew when you don't have to would be stupid.
