Label me a Chase hater. That's OK with me. I've not really tried to keep that a secret. Sure it is what it is and it's not going to change but I like looking at what it could have been and man this year could have been shaping up quite well, naturally. I really like the newer points structure separating finishing positions by a single point. I wish they had come up with that before the Chase idea rolled across Brian's desk.

The chase may someday go away but comparisons amongst the different point system likely wont and people will continue to be annoyed by them - too bad, I say.

What surprises me about this thread is that you, dpk, are such a Bifflle fan - I had no idea ;)

LOL, you know where my allegiances lie. No, for sure not a Biffle fan. I'm just a fan of the close points over the entire season. I think that's what stands out the most to me comparing those two lists.

I personally wish we were running the points system I came up with thats rigged so only Kasey could win the championship.

Obviously ,the chase has no impact on the points system. By the end of 28 races you know who the top ten (or twelve) players are . The reseeding is the thing that changes everything .In the end , I don't really care who the champion is . I like to see new faces in the top ten and this has been a good year for that .I would also like to see a new champion ,other than Tony or Jimmy , and I think there may be a chance for that too.

I forgot about that one. You also gave me a Earnhardt Jr. championship if I remember correctly. Thanks.

Really? Even Nascar hasn't been able to figure that one out.

Actually, I do remember that thread but my attention wouldn't hold long enough to comprehend the in goes/outcomes so rather than whine about it, I stayed the hell away :D

If you don't care, why not just go for Kenseth anyway or do you secretly have a favorite driver and just wont say? I'm thinking that you're a closet Kurt Busch fan ;) Have you had your ears pinned?

I spent a good hour on it, it involved giving the most points to the positions Kasey finished in the most working its way backward slightly for each one and then giving minimum points to any spot he did not finish in during the season.

Me too DP.

Cherish it, because that's all you going to get this year. ;)

nascar better hope Jr isn't in first on the right hand chart when this is all over.

I thought the chase championship was cheap until Jeff Gordon, who would be 6 time without it, said he really want's a chase championship because it's so much harder to win one under this format. I thought about it and realised he was right.

Two posts in a row without the mention of Keselowski? Therapy must be working. ;)

I can see the outrage now if Junior were to lose the championship because of the chase. It might be the only way to force NASCAR to get rid of the chase.

hate the chase. always have. always will. but it ain't going away.

i guess i gave up comparing points systems once i figured out teams had changed how they raced because of the rules. (another strike against jimmie and chad). it became apples to oranges.

in my perfect world harvick or truex would steal the championship this year without a win. would spoil the chase. and make for great messageboard debates!

The issue with getting rid of the chase is that France may be perceived as being wrong about it in the first place. He's not likely to allow that to happen.

i got some off season homework for you dpk. apply the new poins system to all the last chase years and see how it could have been different. i think many agree here that with the new points system you dont need the chase anymore.

Jeffrey00, I'll leave that up to you. I like doing as little homework as possible. ;)

The new points system is perfect without the chase. If anything both NNS and Trucks has proven that. I hope Nascar realizes this and get rid of the chase. I don't hate or like that chase that much, but the fact are the facts, and the new points system minus chase just works better.
You are right, scrap the chase. The numbers show that all it takes is one thing out of the drivers control such as a blown motor or getting caught up in someone else's wreck can ruin your chance. The cup will be awarded for luck and not consistency throughout the year.
Maybe a grocery chain can become the series sponsor and they can call it "The Lucky Cup"

While we're add it why not do it for every points system NASCAR has ever used, particularly that one with the fractions.

It's a little hard to complain about the chase right now since Jeff wouldn't be up in 6th right now competing for the championship without it, but thinking about the two championships he's lost, how unfair it is, and the Talladega race we just had, reminds me why the chase doesn't belong.

Maybe Jeff can win the championship this year with Jimmie being the driver who would've won it without the chase and this year makes up for the 2007 season.

Dear NASCAR:

The top eight in the points standings would be closer without the chase than they are with the chase. Just something to think about.
