Phoenix, Loudon and Dover are not short tracks....

Contrary to popular opinion.. I actually like Michael Waltrip.

Yeah I said it.
I don't mind him either. He is enthusiastic about the sport. That really twists up a lot of them around here. Yeah he isn't the best, only one is whoever that is.

I don't mind enthusiasm, but his seems so forced. His Truck coverage is unbearably 'rah rah'. Chris Myers strikes me the same way. I've heard both under other circumstances, and it's as if they turn on this 'Aw shucks' personality.

Who was it around here that said NASCAR could set fire to his house and he'd thank them for the heat?

I think it was "get that 88 car up there" that said Mikey would thank NASCAR for the heat if they burned his house.

NBCSN just announced they are broadcasting 37 K&N and Whelen modified races this year..there be some short trackin. :pbjtime::pbjtime:

I really really wish these were live races. If anything cool happens, like if a female wins one of them you'll hear about it before it's even on TV. It's pretty hard to stay off the internet for a week or so sometimes.

Same honestly.

I was wondering if they would be live. I'd be much more willing to watch if that were the case.

Contrary to shifting popular opinion, I do not enjoy Michael Waltrip. :D

I do get where Andy is coming from on the original topic though.

I just hit "mute". LOL

That works. :) Michael is one of the major reasons that I watch basically ZERO pre race and post race coverage, and why it truly pains me to watch a truck race, even though I enjoy the racing so much. I would rather have Rick Allen talking in my ear 18 hours a day than have to hear ten minutes of Michael.

Getting back to the topic, "short track" used by the networks is really just a catch all for tracks under 1.5 miles and not a R/C , and for TV its just easier to lump those tracks into one category. I would bet you all the doh-nuts in the world that the talking heads for both networks know the that PIR/NewHamp/Dover are not in fact short tracks.

That is just my take.

But hey don't forget Richmond, Bristol and Martinsville... Going off the almighty Jr's definition anyway lol

I'd rather have him in there than some other boring people that we've had to put up with.

.. And the grid walk is usually funny.

I don't get what ur guys' problem with him is.
Yeah, Mikey's Mikey. Been watching him for years on television. It's obvious that he loves the sport and that's not real popular around these parts. Maybe that's part of the problem? Whatever it is, it's no big deal. He obviously has fans out there or he wouldn't be where he's at.

The grid walk..... some light heated moments before these guys strap into their seats for an afternoon of battle. If they were to get rid of that moment and have some pit reporters asking the questions, getting corporate speak answers, we'd bitch about that. Heck, we're NASCAR fans, we bitch about everything. And then we bitch some more.

He talks too much, his voice is annoying as hell, his glibness comes off as annoying and fake, and be comes as a buffoon and seems happy about it. It doesn't help that it seems the networks over the years have worked overtime to jam him into every possible slot they could find., and for most of it he was still an active driver and owner getting millions of dollars of free publicity for his sponsors, which likely explains why he still had sponsors after getting such meager results. Even if he wasn't so annoying, I'm just tired of seeing him EVERYWHERE. Give somebody else some camera time once in a while.

I just want to meet the person who said "let's get Michael Waltrip in front of a camera as often as possible". I would like to subject that person to some sort of ritualistic torture before finally killing them. Michael's shtick grew old about a decade and a half ago.
Maybe someone at the network swings with MW off camera.

That's as good of an answer as anything ELSE I have heard to explain his presence.

I don't think I've ever seen results of a K&N or Whelen race without actively seeking them out. Just me; other than this place, I'm not particularly active on line.

How about just getting rid of the 'moment'? If I were a driver, the last thing I'd want is anyone stuffing a mike and camera in my face when I'm trying to get my head together for the heat of battle. Some of these guys look painfully annoyed.

Like Formerjackman, the grid walk is one of many reasons I don't turn the broadcast on until after the command to start engines, and rarely leave it on after the checkers.

Eh, it's like hearing people refer to 'Canadian Geese'. It's wrong (they're correctly called 'Canada Geese'), but the phrases are usually used by people who don't know any better. Casual fans, local reporters, Michael Waltrip, etc.
The makes me wince as does "very unique" and things like "kind of intense" and "Febuary"
they are Canadian Geese when they are crapping on the golfers putting greens, when they fly over in spring and fall they are Canada geese.
Canada Geese fly upside down over Iowa and OK.

Mikey’s NAPA commericals with DEI and then with MWR were absolutely top notch though, pretty sure I laughed at every one of them

The commercials WERE pretty funny. BUT, what did most of them do? They made Michael look like a buffoon. Twenty years later, he's still trying to sell the same gimmick.

Do tell, minority here, but I dont pay Jr a lot attention.

Eh he’s made a lot of $$$$$ playing a Buffon. God bless him

Well in the OP he says a short track is a half mile or shorter... Martinsville is the shortest track in the series and is 0.526 miles... So by his definition there are no short tracks on the circuit.

Ahh right, I thought there was something more that he said, thanks SB22
