Pocono II Race Thread

Andy, please remove your head from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Mother Nature is the one that screwed the fans out of racing. Take it up with her.

I like the view from xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm a tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist

...Kez is going to be annoyed with himself for not reacting better to JJ getting loose, unless it was wet already. Either way, he made a nice save and recovery to finish 4th.

I don't think it was a wet track at that time (guessing)....this front looked like the rains we used to get in the midwest...big dark clouds approaching...a few drops...then BAMMO. I doubt that the time between the first few drops and absolute downpour was much more than a minute.

Andy is right...they screwed the fans! I mean, if I was at the track, I'd rather see a couple more laps of racing and get struck by lightning instead of having time to take cover! I mean, we all know getting struck by lightning is worth seeing a few more laps at Pocono!

..one little cloud wanders by. It's just odd how both Kez and JJ got loose like that.

lol There's an idea. Andy, lick your finger and stick it in an outlet.

I'm still trying to understand how Kez got 4th. I guess the flag flew a lot earlier than I thought.

I don't think they have released the official results yet. I thought I remembered them saying that he was going to start the restart in 9th.

You make a good point...like I said, I was guessing.

For what it's worth, JJ tweeted that he had a rear tire going down and didn't know it. It looks like Kez just blew the corner and actually got loose before JJ.

NASCAR … Pocono official reports lightning strike in parking lot behind grandstand. 2 fans struck. No update on any injuries.

Dang, ya had to think something like that would happen. Personally, I would have stayed in the concourse until the storm passed. No need to risk getting injured by trying to get out of the parking lot ahead of everyone.

Yeah FB...I heard something on the broadcast (I think it was a Jeff Gordon post race interview) that made me think something might have happened...hope all the fans are OK.

Realistically though...if you are the subject of a direct lightning strike...you are pretty much screwed.

It does make sense though - I couldn't imagine NASCAR giving a "f" about their fans safety...chances are they already knew there were dead people in the parking lot - texted their lawyers - lawyers quickly looked over the payment rules on rain shortened races - then they made the decision.

And you guys think I'm all about knee jerk comments:

This is a tragic and very avoidable incident. We all knew for hours a huge storm was coming. I'm so sad about this.

I just logged on and the stuff that I just read made my head explode. Damn.

Pocono is just terrible. Give one(or both) of its dates to other tracks. There hasnt been a watchable race there in years.

First Cup race I missed this year and my guy wins it. Maybe I'll DVR Watkins Glen next week:)

Same thing happened to me....I was in Pigeon Forge all weekend and not back in time to see it! I told my wife maybe we need to go down there every weekend!

I wanted to comment on some of the conversation if NASCAR should have started the race back before calling it and so on. I don't know exactly what NASCAR or Pocono Raceway rules are, but I know that MANY outside sporting events shut down if there is lightning within so many miles of where the event is taking place...could this be what caused them to not re-start the way some feel that they should have?

This is a lousy thing to say...but I would bet dollars to donuts that the "officials" knew they had dead people in the parking lot before they made their final decision.

Actually AndyM was exactly right...not a classless DB...he was exactly right...granted these things are hard to predict....but this time...he was exactly right....and guess who the real "classless DB is"?.....you

Lmfao.....Who was talking about Andy?

Dude, he was talking about Jeff Gluck. He's a NASCAR journalist who's come unhinged of late.

You may want to sit out the next few rounds and regroup. Maybe get some Long John Silvers and engage in some introspective thought.

Thank you for taking the time to READ my post :)

Matt Kenseth talks about the wreck with Johnson @ the end of the Pocono race. Interesting.

Audio link

I guess it's a racing deal but as I said in another thread, maybe another racing deal will take place at Watkins Glen.

Either way, Johnson and his flat tire are the HMS heros this week for getting the points lead back for Earnhardt and giving Gordon/Kahne a 1 2 finish.

When is a good time for people to attend my official Matt Kenseth pity party?
