Should NASCAR keep the 4 car maximum per team rule?

Interested in hearing everybody's opinion on this.

I think NASCAR should end this rule and allow teams to run 5-6 cars/trucks in each race. If SHR and HMS (the only 4 car teams) each ran one more car that'd be 2 more high-quality rides with solidly funded teams. That would increase competition since 2 start and park cars would be out and 2 championship-contending drivers in.

I've heard people say it would decrease competition because the big teams would dominate. But isn't that already happening? This forms the question of "Would you rather see a variety of teams win or a variety of drivers win?" It's hard to get one without sacrificing the other.
 
I would like them to rxtend the limit but keep one there. Maybe have up to 5-6 drivers. What does it matter if one team completely starts dominating with more drivers. Beats the hell out of the same drivers winning. If you can fund them go ahead
 
I'd say remove it, the way I see it with technical alliances teams are almost mixed under one roof anyway. Plus I think if an owner can afford 8 competitive cars, its better then 4 good ones and 4 underfunded teams.
 
Ehh, I see where y'all are coming from, but I think the rule is fine as-is. It only affected one team when it was implemented anyway - Roush. That was the only team at the time that had more than four cars.

I think the lines between teams are starting to become somewhat blurred though, now that you have teams getting engines and chassis from the likes of Hendrick and Roush and sharing information with each other. Heck, SHR is essentially a Hendrick satellite team.
 
Get rid of it. Teammates in racing hardly makes sense. Its all for one out there. HMS is already basically a monopoly team now.

Like kkfan91 said, technical alliances & friends on the track is all good n dandy but in the end the only team that matters is your own crew.

Right, but the technical alliances and information sharing help make your team stronger than it would be if you were just fending for yourself, so in that aspect, the concept of teammates in racing makes plenty of sense.

I got a mate who runs track for my school. Tells me that, yeah he always runs against one or two teammates in his events but he wants to smoke 'em. They share advice on running form n such in the locker room but outside of practice he's just another opponent. Said he'd rather not share info & just everyone listen to their event coaches instead.

Kinda the same concept. Sharing info can be good but, who wants to share info with their opponents?

If it was up to me two cars would be the max. Those two would have to pit and garage at least ten spots apart. And communication between the two at the track would be forbidden.
Technical Alliances would be limited, you would only be able to buy engines, or chassis from one supplier not both.
Any team suspected of being owned by another owner with a proxy figure head would be auctioned off.

I hate the mega teams, you should be racing against 42 real enemies.

Hendrick, Rousch, JGR, SHR, and other missed syndicates should be busted up in my opinion.

22 diverse owners with no allegiances would deliver 22 different paths and templates for future drivers, and knock a little vanilla off the lot.

But it will not happen, Nascar is a control freak in spite of their marketing. They like subdued submissive drivers that can be easily controlled.

4 teams max is fine. Allowing owners to lease out engines and various technical help information to one and two car teams who either can't afford to invest in all the equipment and manpower or don't want to in order to be competitive is a good thing. Trying to withhold and create an artificial voodoo, super secret info situation would be impossible in today's world. The earth isn't flat.
 
I think the current system is 4 cars max but you can run other cars as long as the driver is not running for points. ie they have selected nationwide or truck to get points. if that is the rule as I understand it I think its fine. run a 5th car on a limited schedule for a rookie.
 
nascar doesn't even wan't to address big budget teams dominating the NW series, so don't expect them to do anything about HMS, TRD or Roush/Yates.

I have kind of mixed feelings on this. On the one hand, I don't want to see any one owner have too big a piece of the pie. On the other hand, limiting to two teams would result in some significantly sub-43 car fields. I guess right at 4 is where it needs to be.
 
I remember when Roush got all 5 of his cars in the Chase one year and everyone complained. 4 car limit is fine.
 
They should limit it to one car per team. That way Hendrick and their affiliates dont dominate the top 15, they dominate the top 3 instead.

Err....no. All NW wins are by cup-lite teams. We haven't met much new talent in VL this year. I would make cup drivers drive for teams that have no cup affiliation.

Yeah, I can understand where you and your buddy are coming from, but not everyone looks at it that way.

I used to play that game Pure online a lot. It was an arcade-style ATV racing game like the SSX games. I was decent enough on my own...not the fastest, but I could hold my own somewhat. The top players would almost never reveal their secrets, and all I could do was follow them the best I could. Eventually, as I started to get a little better from chasing them around all the time and started to become a familiar face, they were nice enough to start dropping little hints and answering any questions I had about how to go faster. I took whatever advice they would give me and eventually started discovering things and finding faster setups and lines on my own, too.

Eventually I started beating their fastest times, some of which were world records. They would ask me how I did it, as I had often asked them before, and I would tell them. We all started sharing information with each other, and we all got that much better at the game. Every race was a blast, because almost any one of us was capable of winning at any given time. It was great! Eventually new people came along that saw what we were doing and wanted to get better, and as long as they were friendly, I was always willing to share what I knew with them, as were most of the others in our group. Naturally, the community only grew bigger.

By the end of my time playing that game, I was ranked #2 in the world out of upwards of 500,000 players, but I would probably never have gotten there without the help I got along the way. Mind you, we weren't playing for money or anything - just for fun - but the information sharing definitely made my overall experience with the game much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise.
 
If they're still allowed to sell engines and chassis to other teams it really doenst matter how many they're allowed to have under one name.
 
With the RTA forming I expect Nascar to lower it to 3 or even 2 cars! ;)

Leave things alone HMS already has 8 + cars and he is the only team who can afford it.
RFR is down to 2 having lost Wood Bros to Team Penske. The other teams can't find sponsorship for 3 cars even.

I couldn't cast a vote. My choice was not available.
I don't care whether the team cap rule is in place or not.

I guess all I'm getting at is that I wouldn't imagine that those kind of numbers are not know outside the people's names that are on those contracts. That isn't the kind if information that they'd make public.

I get that but I did read it somewhere years ago when JR and HMS Nationwide programs merged. Someone reported it.
 
I would prefer NASCAR get rid of multi-car teams altogether.

I don't think that is the way it is today. Rick, Junior and Kelly. I think. :)
