Posting while at work

I have been wondering for quite a while about this. How many of you post or stay on the internet all day while at work? It's really none of my business , but I have noticed the board is buzzing with posts all day long but as the work day winds down , they dwindle. I work from 7 till 5 most days..... some days longer and always get on the board after I get home from work. I realize there are several retired folks on the board that can get on anytime of the day. But the majority are younger folks who should be working during the day and are on the board constantly. I was just curious as to how they can justify holding a job that they were hired for..... to be productive and make their employer money when they are on the internet and cellphone all day long. Maybe I am looking at this all wrong but I see this as a problem.

I guess I was brought up in a different generation.
 
I post from my phone almost exclusively so I'm never too commited to your content :p. I'm a smoker so I'll usually read stuff during my couple smoke breaks a day or lunch, or on hold with a vendor, or taking a ****. I don't think you're talking about me though. Lol.
 
I'm here almost always on my phone, and I'm technically employed, but I haven't worked full time since the end of January.
 
Me. I post all the time from work. On here and other various social media sites.
 
I work in IT, so I'm normally in front of a computer and on the Internet reading political news whenever there's a lull in activity, but I never visit this place while I'm on the clock.
 
I check in when I get up, usually around 6-6:30. Then stick around most of the day here, but I go and check in to several other forums too.
Daytime TV will rot yer brain although I do have the TV on in the background and flip around the channels. Mostly the news channels.
 
I don't access the site from work on my computer ever. Usually check in once or twice a day on the phone via Tapatalk.
 
Posting at work and watching a PID program run through the cycles.

I only post on here from my phone via Tapatalk and 90% of it is while I'm at work. Some days I don't stop at work and never touch my phone, other days (like today) I know are going to be slow as soon as I walk in the front door.
 
I'm retired and just randomly pop in and out all day. Unless there's a race on I shut down around 6 or 7 pm.

So...... how do you justify being on here and various social media sites when you are at work and getting paid to do a specific job for your employer?

You don't feel any remorse that you are slacking on your job?

What do think your employer's thoughts would be on that?

I'm just trying to rationalize why it seems the younger generation are constantly on their cell phones instead of concentrating on the job they were hired to do...... I see it all the time in my workplace. They can't seem to put them down.... It's like a worse addiction than drugs....... It sure does make it hard on us older folks who just go into work and do our job....... We have to cover for all the younger slackers who can't seem to get off their phones.....

True for some, but not all. My smartphone is part of the job. People are always texting or calling for troubleshooting answers, even at 2 am . When showering I even keep the thing nearby in the medicine cabinet.
When I eat lunch the phone is there, and I have had cases were the troubleshooting calls kept me from eating the just purchased lunch.
I also keep a Google sheet going on the phone that allows some at work to veiw open and closed items being worked in real time.
So I when I get a few moments I will hit RF for a little breather.

As for the younger generation. I report to a guy that is young enough to be my son. He is a sleep deprived Father of a daughter less than 3 months old .But he is also puts in longer days and has more going on than I do as well.
I sure was a lot less mature, and unresponable at his age.

Just my two cents.

Well I have A LOT of down time with nothing else to do once I finish my assigned tasks. It's either social media or online shopping.

It's not slacking if there's literally nothing else productive to do. When I was in school I'd have class work to complete, but now nothing besides working on resumes and cover letters. Also for safety reasons I always have my phone on me.

As far as my bosses go, neither cares as long as the actual job gets done with no complaints from guests. My department manager spends his time gaming and looking at photography techniques. The bartenders play video games and the chefs watch Netflix.

However, there are days where we are slammed and I'm lucky to even get a chance to eat or sit down for 10 consecutive minutes.

When I was working we weren't suppose to be on the computer except at lunch and break times. However I knew supervisors that would be on ebay or their favorite site. For the most part they just told everybody that you know the rules so if their boss catches you then too bad. When my son worked at the bank you were suppose to leave your phone in the lockers, but some would keep it in the drawer so that they could use it and no be obvious. Generally I don't have a problem if I come up to someone that is using their phone as long as they quit and do their job.

It's just something that I was curious about...... I knew it would ruffle a few feathers and be perceived as me being an a@@hole.
The night I posted this thread, I was especially frustrated. I do field service work on AG equipment. I depend on the parts dept. to order and pull my parts in a timely fashion. We have 4 parts men...... 1 about 40. the other 3 under 30. It's either they are too busy on their phones to get them ordered in time or too busy jackassing to pull them..... My customers call me regularly complaining about our parts dept......... I just say...... '''I know''.........

Sounds like you and I have the same work schedule...... except..... I never stop for lunch...... it's a running joke at work..... ''If you are going on a service call with Jim..... you better bring a lunch with you because he ain't gonna stop''.
 
I usually eat mine st the desk while working at the PC. Usually a 11 plus hour day, so I try to get a breakfast or a lunch during the day.

I've got 1 mechanic that works MAYBE 4 hours a day and is on the phone the rest of the time........ he's always hiding behind a piece of equipment . All it does is makes it double hard on the rest of the mechanics.

We have abusers or lazy people were I work too. I see it as more individual, some lazy people and hard working people in all groups.

Yeah........ It doesn't matter where you work...... you will always have them..... I guess what really wears on me is..... I'm 63...... all my life I have worked long hours..... many years 12 and 14 hour days..... on call 24/7....... I worked hard building a reputation and a client base. I was counting on being able to slow down some and hand some of the more manual jobs over to the younger guys..... I'm tired.... can't hold out to do what I could 20 years ago. The problem is..... unless it can't be done now with a laptop or cellphone....... the younger guys will quit.:mad:

I am not to far behind at 56 years.
Situation is a little different though, I work mostly around a technical group that is very sharp. A lot of smart driven folks, I have to stay on my toe's to keep up with them.

But there are a lot of entry level slackers working in production.
 
I post frequently while I'm at work. The IT guy showed me my stats for the last week, I was at 99.6%, #1 citywide in terms of productivity. This is why I get a lot of perks that nobody else receives.
 
What the freak is this work of which you speak?
 
I provide the customer service that is so greatly missed. I do my job above and beyond anyone else here, that's why I'm #1.
I treat people like I wish to be treated. Nobody does that anymore.

My supervisors consult me, seriously. One of my supervisors is pushing me to be a supervisor. I told him they'd never let it happen.
 
I was instrumental in the firing of a 20+ year employee that was stealing revenue from the company. He was making $105K/yr. it was a big deal in the company. I took his pension.
I'd like to promote to Revenue Security. Nobody busts more grow operations than me.

I can see where you are coming from...... but..... Revenue Security? I'd be afraid of that for my own security and my family's..... too many crazies out there..... you bust 'em..... and like you mentioned..... take their pension....... nah..... they might go off the deep end and target you and your family for a mass murder..... that's pretty serious stuff.....
 
I'm not currently working, hopefully I can sooner than later.

No, whether working in retail or healthcare, there is no time to be online.
