Pre Race: The Cook Out Southern 500 @Darlington Raceway

Whatever you do I highly advise you not to go to the Baymont By Wyndham in Florence...that place is a gross disgusting dump.
But there are good hotels in Florence, less than 15 minutes from the track (when it isn't race day). There's also Sumter, about 30 miles, although that's on the wrong side of the track if you're coming from NC. There are a few options in Camden (45 miles west), and plenty in Columbia (about 70 miles west), I-20 all the way for both. If you stay in Camden or Columbia, peer-message me and I'll give you the best ways out to beat the traffic.

Oh, only 50 miles away on I-95, there's South of the Border... :XXROFL:

Well, it is a track where one of his "oops, walled it" moments won't end the night... I kid, I kid. ;)
Totally a possibility!

He was stupid fast the last two Darlington races and did just that lol

PEDRO!!!!!!

Always wanted to attend a Darlington race. Are there many motels near the track? Or do you have to stay an hour or two away? All the times I've been to Myrtle Beach in my life and I've never been to Darlington...
I have been to a number of races in Darlington. Usually I can find a room in Florence. But be careful and do your research, there are some pretty nasty motels all around that area and I have experienced my share of them.

Yeah let’s just say it’s not the most affluent part of the state. Lol I’m not hating, it’s just you gotta expect meals at Bojangles and Waffle House

Exactly. NOTHING WRONG with slumming it restaurant-wise on race weekend. If anything, it’s appropriate
Slumming it😄 when we go south we stop at them several times, going and coming back.

Ridiculous. I wonder how many “third time through“ failures would occur if the penalty was ... load up your stuff and get it and all of your people off the property?

Oh, and your hospitality events scheduled for tonight and tomorrow are cancelled.

Pretty damn obscure if your cable provider decided not to carry it, the NBC sports app etc.
I've had three cable and one satellite service over the last 35 years. USA was on the basic tier on all of them.

If fall races were on broadcast networks, we'd all be here screaming because the local affiliates opted to carry the local football teams instead, especially Trucks on Friday and Xfinity on Saturday. I'd wouldn't mind if there was never another race on broadcast networks.

That's wonderful. Frankly I don't know if it was a case of stupid, or could care less about Nascar racing or something else. The letter they sent me said the NBC package was too expensive. It's possible it could be a political thing. All I get from NBC is over the air channel. Really don't care what the excuse is , my bill didn't get any cheaper and I have to scrounge around to get coverage for MSNBC and USA over the web.

A few years ago, Kurt Busch was in a studio interview, perhaps Race Hub, and they played this 2003 Southern 500 tape with Kurt narrating. At the end, Kurt said, "I've watched that tape probably 100 times... and I lost the race every damn time!" LOL.

...and Blaney was coming fast in 3rd. I thought for sure they would take each other out and Blaney would get a win.

One of if not the greatest Nascar finish of all time. I say that even though I had no dog in that fight.
