RACE thread --- Fontana

Not gonna lie.. I never really thought Bowman would get good. He really impressed me today .
I thought he would when he filled in for Jr at Phoenix. He showed speed and could have won that race, lead the most laps.

Sigh. That's not true. Not only are there other posts, but what I chose to post does not reflect the entirety of my thoughts during a race. I can understand if you find it tiresome, and appreciate your post, but there's a block button, use it temporarily if you must. I won't be offended, I have no issues with anyone here, and I won't with you if you chose to do so.

Block you for what? I enjoy your opinions on the forum, its no bother. You are a great contributor here, no issue. It seems I run into most of your posts concerning the 48. How good or how bad it is most of the time. It seems like everything is focusing on him and the team.

Eh, I have a tendency to go against my own word and make questionable posts at times. I shouldn't be worried about others opinions. He's your guy, so I understand the genuine concern.

Trust me, I'd like to see him break the three way tie as well for number eight.

88 hit the setup today.
I listened to a lot of different drivers. Everyone including the leader complained about the car turning to junk in dirty air.
18 finished 2nd with a 10th place car. Kyle said the right sides were coming apart as he crossed the finish line.
I was kinda hoping for a yellow there toward the end.

It is always nice to see people learn from their mistakes and not repeat them over and over again and that could not be more true with Bowman. He did a nice celebration and he didn't go in the grass and get stuck in the mud like he did during his first win celebration.:D

Blows me away that there is basically zero cell coverage at the racetrack in this day and age. Our group got separated a couple of times throughout the day and we couldn’t call or text each other.

When I was there on Fri I was sending pics and texting from the grandstands and from my car in the parking lot. But, it wasn't so cloudy and there were only a fraction of the fans there.

Only one of us had cell service. I’m not sure what carrier he has. I have AT&T.
I was able to log onto RF as soon as we got out of the parking lot.

I have AT&T. There were a couple of times a pic didn't go through and I had to resend it.

Don’t go to Michigan ever then. Service is awful the second you get away from the actual facility. Have to remember too that there are thousands of people using a few towers in the middle of nowhere at a lot of these tracks

Fun to watch all of the slingshot passing today between Bowman, Johnson and Blaney among others. Bowman is like an iceman when he gets out front. Restarts were madness and instead of a whole race of single file aero, cars were able to run side by side, draft, push and shove and set up passes instead of hearing on the radio, I can't pass.

Bowman looked great. Still pissed about Larson getting dumped and Blaney losing a tire with 2 laps left. 12 car has lost out on a ton of points the last two weeks. Should be up by 50.

Maybe the Booth was right -- Blaney could've done a better job of taking care of his rubber.

Geez, Roger's done just about everything to make Brad's life miserable and he still grabbed a Top 5, while Blaney has had 3 winning cars and can't seem to close.

I’m a big KB fan because he really is that good but I kinda cringed when he said the 18 was not a 2nd place car today.
It wasn't. Was a 5th place car there at the end with some good driving and good track position. Spent the first half of the race struggling for top 10 speed.

He was really great to listen to on the radio except for the Harvick brain fade off of four. You can really learn a lot about the sport by listening to the participants.
That said, this package straight sucks on a two mile track.

It may not be perfect, but at least it's not the days where you could make two fuel runs and never change position, and I've haven't fallen asleep during a race yet this year.

Really excited Alex won yesterday, hope he can get a few more as the year goes on. Really interested to see how the 88 runs at other 1.5-2 mile tracks over the course of the schedule. I like the kid, his driving reminds me of a cross between Tim Richmond and Terry Labonte. Richmond in that Alex has shown to have amazing car control, can race open wheel ( I think Alex would do well in an Indy Car) and has a little swagger mixed in with chip on his shoulder that comes across in his personality and driving. He reminds me of Texas in that you just don’t know when he’s coming but when he does you’re in for a rough afternoon, got a good poker face.

Frustrated Toyotas and a discouraged Jimmie Johnson all chased Alex Bowman at California
Bob Pockrass

“The racing is such s— right now,” Busch said about the way drivers are digging for spots with little regard for others. “There is no wherewithal. There’s no care. It’s just a dogfight. I guess it is what it is.”
The dogfighting appears to also happen in the tech bay. Last week at Vegas, all the Toyota teams lost practice time because NASCAR felt they had too much bondo in an area that messed with the required shape of the right rear wheel fender.

A few of the JGR teams also were penalized 10 points at Vegas for a piece of plastic behind the Toyota decal on the nose of the car.

Then in the last couple of days at California, Truex had his tech issues. And the Chevrolets of JTG Daugherty Racing’s Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ryan Preece had a body panel that disrupted the air flow around the car during qualifying. They were docked 10 points and had their crew chiefs ejected.

They should’ve left the 2018 package intact.

I was 100% in favor of the low downforce package until I saw it, then I couldn't stand it. Some of the most sleep inducing racing I ever saw. 2019 was a good bit better. So far, 2020 has gotten off to a tremendous start. I wish they didn't have to do what they did to the cars to get these results, but until somebody comes up with a better way to do it, I'll take the current package every day, ESPECIALLY on Sunday. Maybe the 2021 car is the better way. Who knows?

I think NASCAR’s been consistently going in wrong direction for years.

Didn’t they say that some drivers were not lifting in the corners?

If that’s true the package could be improved.

I guess due to the fact that I was on the edge of my seat all day and couldn't take my eyes off of the tv and that there were no major crashes and a very low amount of cautions seemed like that race went by lightning fast.
