Race thread

You might not like him, but what a driver he is.

I was watching Ambrose for my pal down in Aussieland, but Dirk told me that he was watching the race. Good finish for the Aussie.

I think that Vegas needs a new clean-up crew. Can't believe how long it took them for that last caution. Seems like they didn't want any racing.

and I like how the driver that has been in a accident has to open his own ambulance door.

This goes down as a win from the pole, but kyle started this race dead last.
But did he actually start dead last? there were four or five other cars that were sent to the back for engine changes. Surely Kyle would have started the race ahead of them since he was top qualifier. Regardless, it just goes to show you the kind of driver he is and that team.

...just got home from Vegas. Awesome facility, great hospitality from the track personnel, clean restrooms, cold beer, hot food, reduced concession prices (appreciated); all around, a nice weekend.
We had pit passes, driver introduction passes, etc. I took a boatload of pictures.
One thing that wasn't satisfactory was the turds on pit road, employed by Hendrick Motorsports. Every other team (especially the Ford guys :beerbang:) was willing to part with a lugnut, new or used, or some other insignificant (to them) item that would be of fan interest. Every other team was more than willing to kick with something a NASCAR fan would want to have. The guys in the pits for the 24, 48 and 88 are arrogant jerks.
My bad, I guess. For a minute there I thought that we fans payed the bills.
Shame on you Hendrick Motorsports...

Remember those old days when a fan could actually get a used tire? Those days virtually ended when they realized that people would pay for such things. There will come a day when a fan will have to pay to even talk to a crew member. :(

not here at TMS...there's always a used tire stand in the merchandise area....and once i saw somebody sitting a mile from TMS, had a flatbed full of used eagle slicks for 50 bucks a pop

Was the weather as beautiful as it looked on TV?

Sounds like you had a good time. :)

You'll have to fill us in on all the details when you get time.

The weather was awesome! Low to mid 70's with a slight breeze toward the end of the day.
We really had a great time. Our seats were 71 rows up in the Dale Earnhardt Terrace, right at the commitment cone, entrance to pit road. We got there Friday morning in time to see qualifying. We also had driver introduction passes for Sunday.
Everyone on pit road was nice except the guys in the Hendrick Motorsports pits (actually the guys at Martin's pit box we're really cool). A friend of mine that showed up at the last minute did not have the extra money for a pit pass and knowing that he is a devout Johnson/Gordon fan, I decided to surprise him with a used lug nut from the Hendrick camp. I asked the guys sitting in Jimmie's pit if I could get a lug nut for my friend on the other side of the fence and was told "We don't have any extras". I pointed to a box of used ones and was told "Oh, we throw those away". Same story in the Gordon box. They weren't even friendly (regardless of whether or not I was wearing a 99 shirt). Pretty cool, huh? They'd rather throw them away than give them to a fan that just dumped a fistful of hard-earned green in order to be there. I went back on the other side of the fence and hung my pit pass around my friend's neck so that he could go and get some pit road pics...:D
It was the first time that I'd been to Vegas Motor Speedway and I already plan to go next year. I'm not sure how much of the pre-race aired but Bruton and the Vegas mayor were hinting of a second date in 2010. The racing was great all around the track. I was monitoring the lap times on my FanView and listening to several of the front runners. Jr. and Tony Jr. are a blast to listen to. Toward the end of the race Jr. was saying that he wasn't even tired and "could run two of these things" followed up with the fact that he was even "up for a foot-race" after the race :)
As far as save of the day? You have to give it to Jamie McMurray: http://nascar.fanhouse.com/2009/03/01/jamie-mcmurray-las-vegas-drifting-star/
I hope to go to Phoenix in April, also.

OMG.............my guy leads a bunch of laps and finishes 3rd and he only gets 1 mention (a negative one at that)???? LAME!!!

Hey, what about Bobby Labonte finishing 5th. He and Burton are both pretty good drivers.

We all know Kyle Busch is talented but I agree, FOX goes way overboard... You can practically hear Darrell wiping the saliva off everytime he mentions KB.

did you hear him when Kyle bumped Bowyer out of the way at the end of the race to take over the lead,he sounded like a little school girl talking about her boyfriend to her friends.
