Rain delay chit-chat

OH NO! It won't be on ESPN and might have to be on ESPN2 or ESPNews. What will you do?

Meh I have all ESPN channels so that's not the problem. Tomorrow is a working day for most of us.

Even if they start this race I wont finish it out most likely.

I was scheduled to work the morning shift on Monday, so someone wanted to trade. I'm glad they wanted that as I don't think I'll be going to sleep for awhile. At least the race is nearly half finished, so it will only last for about an hr and a half.

how come you are eating pizza and bon bons and are not there working anyway?
We are not racing Charlotte, St louis, Reading, or Dallas this year. My next three races are Bakersfield Ca, Las Vegas Nv, and Pomona Ca in Oct and Nov.

Is it 9EST or CST? and by this time NASCAR would call the race on account on driver fatigue.

15 mins, cool. I wish they'd do an ESPN update. Chicagoland on twitter showed a picture of a flooded race track... but it was the infield. Who hired that ****** photographer

it looks good and clear, has been for a while, so ya never know, they might get the whole thing in.

Today was perfect time to watch some of the crap on my DVR. Finished "Zero Dark Thirty" earlier. "History Detectives" is next. If racing continues tonight, "Boardwalk Empire" and "Ray Donovan" will have to wait a day or 2. And Twitter. There's always time for Twitter...

Jeez, no Breaking Bad? Walter White is going to be pissed at you.

The officials just said again, and they are in the central time zone, that they are trying for racing a 9 PM.

They just said that the track is coming in but slow.

If you're a racing fan for any period of time, you're going to experience the disappointment of the 'rain delay' or, worse yet, postponed. I've been going to Indy Time Trials longer than some of our members have been alive, and there was a stretch in the late 80's/early 90's when it rained almost every year. It's truly a surreal feeling to be in a crowd of 100,000+ having a simultaneous 'aw, hell' moment.

My favorite weather related racing story is the second Brickyard 400 in 1995. It rained all day long, but our tickets were just under the new suites on the inside of the front stretch, and we just stayed in our seats emptying out the coolers, watching wreckers and emergency vehicles drive around trying to disperse the water. NASCAR never said anything about whether they were going to postpone the race until the next day (the first few Brickyards were on Saturday, so they had Sunday if need be) or try to get it in, and they were up against daylight. Lots of folks gave up and started heading home, but it finally quit raining in the afternoon and they started drying the track. We could see rain clouds to the west from our seats, but it stayed away. Finally, with maybe 5 minutes' warning, the cars were started in the garage area and drove straight out onto the track in turn 1, did two warm up laps, and dropped the green flag. It happened so quickly, it seemed like we almost missed it, and we were still in our seats! I remember seeing people running back into the track with only about 25 laps to go, and callers on sports radio ripped NASCAR a new one for a week! It was well worth it though, as the black 3 got the victory!
