Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I repeat, if I had lost the use of an eye I would have lost my credentials to Captain a ship. It must be hell to fly a plane without any depth perception, what if the instruments go out?

Times have changed.
I agree and I have never understood it either. I don't think you can get a CDL if you have only one eye either.

You instantly lose your Masters documents for the Merchant Marines if you lose the use of an eye because of the need for depth perception to run a ship. Dont know how the hell he gets by flying a plane.

True, especially when you consider that Jack wasn't all that good at flying when he had 2 eyes.

The last Jack Roush plane crash was more serious, as he crashed near Talladega in 2002. In that case, he crashed a P-51 aircraft into a lake, and was in danger of drowning. He was pulled out just in time by a nearby retired Marine, and he ultimately had serious but non-life threatening injuries there as well.

I don't have use of my right eye at all.The depth perception thing is tricky within arms reach away but driving a car for me seems normal.I don't want to try a Semi though.Catching a baseball and swinging a hammer can't do anymore but there is always screws and my cordless drill.

A buddy of mine has a glass eye. He plays golf really well, is great at horseshoes and bean toss, rides mountain bikes competitively but he as issues with parking a car. He seems to hit his garage fortnightly.

Hee Hee, matt said fortnightly on racing forums, musta been looking for a long time for a spot to use it. :D

What a great setting for a race track.
The year that I was there , I wanted to buy a "Tunder Valley" t shirt for my grandson.I thought that it was such a cool description .The folks at the track didn't sell them , they said it was a dragstrip logo and they were only sold at the drags. Bummer.

That sucks. I guess the strip wasn't open that weekend?

That's what I need to keep me busy. A Strip club with a NASCAR orientated atmosphere. Maybe I could get Brian to sign off on it, and we could franchise!

If you make it there again for a race weekend, head up to the Bruton Smith Building up on the hill along the backstretch. They have a huge gift-shop in there and sell all things Bristol related including Thunder Valley logo merchandise. Last springs race, we bought a couple coffee cups from there sporting the Thunder Valley logo. I'm sure they have shirts there too. Those BMS haulers around the track during Cup weekends tend to only sell NASCAR based merchandise.

Another great place is probably the off-track vendors across the street but I can't say that I ever looked for Thunder Valley stuff there.

A couple of years ago, while at TMS for a NA$$CAR weekend, some people brought in a double-decked trailer and parked it near the turn 3 fence in the infield. It was a great viewing spot for the racing. Then after dark, they unveiled some spotlights, a video camera, a video projector, a sound system and a live DJ.

The trailer was equipped with stripper poles on both levels - and there was no shortage of "volunteers" - and LOTS of skin on display!

I have some grainy out-of-focus pics stashed somewhere... :p
