Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

He will grow up. When I was a teen I thought it was a good idea to leave school without permission. That court ordered community service at 7 AM on Saturday's isn't fun.
If he makes it through whats affectionately called "theteendumbassitisyears" alive or at least mostly in one piece.

I've been watching Gordon qualify for about 15 years and today was the first time I've seen him back it into the wall during qualifying. He never even spins in practice so today was a rare event for sure.

Seemed to let go real quick too, down low on the track.

Man , you must be old . Did the truant officer nail your ass?

Jeffs days are numbered. He's already having trouble getting sponsored. Just 6 wins in 5 years tells the story.

And Brad is 29 and has 9 wins in 5 years ....with those numbers one has to wonder if Brad will even be able to get in a car at 41 years old.:)

Please, if Mark Martin can still race at age 54, then Jeff still has at least 13 years left if not more.

We tend to remember how great these drivers were long after their dominating wins have stopped . I remember Rusty's last half dozen years , Richard Petty's , DW 's , lots of them were lucky to win one race per year. I hate to say it , but I keep wondering if Smoke is going the same way.

I wonder how long Jimmie Johnson has. He's 37 years old now, and so far he's having a great 2013 seas0n, however sooner or later he'll start to fade.

Hard to compare Stewart and Gordon. Gordon only runs cup for Hendrick. Stewart has a full plate, cup, sprints, late models, midgets, team owner cup, Race track owner/promoter on and on. I wouldn't be surprised to see smoke in the future back out of driving Cup full time. Both of them are in their 40's, still making the chase. Gordon has finished in the top ten in points since 2006.

Ted, I think the only reason Smoke has not been finishing good since his championship season is just because his cars performance level is not as good as it was in the past.

I'm surprised that guys like Stewart can keep up this kind of schedule. I understand loving to race, but jeez, doesn't he feel like he's stretching himself out too thin?

yeah that was my point. I also wonder how his cup team does with the boss being gone so much. Hard to keep the winning edge with where's Tony? He also has to make all kinds of sponsor appearances, got to keep them happy.

Jimmy is going to be around for a long while. I think he will be one of the drivers who will have a Mark Martin like career. He is very athletic, runs and stays in shape.

I agree that Jimmy could do it , but will he want to do it. Things are different today , his bank account is full , his kids want more of his time ,and would he settle for not being top dog anymore ? Jimmy as the third or fourth driver in the Hendrick stable ? I'm not seein it. Mark is a different guy from a different era.

Jimmy has said publicly many times he wants to win the most championships..that would be 8. So it is not about the money, not about the kids or the wife IMO. And if he does win 8, I still don't think he will quit at that. So I expect him to still be racing when he is Mark Martin's age.

Hamlin update from Jayski:

Injured #11-Denny Hamlin told ESPN.com on Saturday there is a 50-50 chance he'll return to his Sprint Cup car next weekend at Richmond. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver said it's almost 100% he will at least start the May 5 race at Talladega. Hamlin was expected to miss six weeks after suffering a compression fracture in his lower back on the last lap of the March 24 race at Auto Club Speedway. That would have put his scheduled return at the May 11 race at Darlington. But Hamlin said if the follow-up scan of the fracture that will take place either late Tuesday or early Wednesday shows bone growth he will be in the car at his home track in Richmond if doctors give him clearance. "If everything works out, and if the scan looks the way I feel we're going to be in good shape for Richmond,'' Hamlin said after the final practice for Sunday's race at Kansas. "I feel there's been growth there. I feel I've gotten stronger. Everything is a lot better. Last week, I would have said probably not. But this week I feel a lot better.'' Hamlin said there won't be another scan for two weeks after this week's. Even if he is not given clearance for Richmond, the plan is to start Talladega to collect driver points and give way to a backup driver after the first caution. Hamlin said there is no consideration for starting and then putting a backup driver in at Richmond because he would lose at least two laps making the exchange at the three-quarter mile track. Hamlin said he's been off pain medicine for a week and a half, so that won't be an issue with getting medical clearance. He is confident after looking at the crash data from Auto Club Speedway that it would be tough to duplicate what led to his injury.
