Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

I just noticed that there's a retired Nascar driver named Dick Passwater :D

Kurt Busch to Test Australian V8 Supercar at Circuit of The Americas

The former NASCAR champion, who has driven an Indy car, sports car and an NHRA Pro Stocker, will take part in a car swap Tuesday (April 23) with the Australian V8 Supercars Series during a media event at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.

While Busch will be testing a Holden Commodore V8 Supercar, his No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet SS will also be at the track with an offer to the Australian V8 drivers in attendance -- James Courtney and Fabian Coulthard -- to pilot the Sprint Cup car around the 3.4-mile Grand Prix circuit.

"I'm flattered to be invited by Circuit of The Americas and the Australian V8 Supercars Series to participate in this unique event,” Busch said. “Getting a chance to drive a V8 Supercar was high on my wish list, and the chance to do it at Circuit of The Americas makes this a dream opportunity.”

The V8 Supercars Series, Australia's premier motorsports category, is scheduled to compete May 17-19 at the Circuit of The Americas, which will also host the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix later in the year.

So what's the deal with Goodyear being used by NASCAR's top three series, and Hoosier being used for the feeder series, Mods, and other non-NASCAR racing series?

That poor M&M had a major headache after Kansas.

Just my opinion , but I don't think there was a grand plan , it just evolved that way. Other brands have been in the top three series , but competition between competeing brands led to some unsafe possibilities in the past and each series was forced to go with one brand . You can imagine , that Goodyear would not be able to use a harder (safer) tire today , if they were competeing against another brand offering a softer (faster) tire.

Ahh, well that make sense. I was just wondering about that, that's all. :)

I think with Kyle losing 2 engines in his truck in practice, and then getting wrecked in his truck, and then spinning out twice and crashing in his cup car... his anger management was tested pretty well. I would have to say he is making progress.:D

Firestone was the original tire used until Goodyear took over. Hoosier tried hanging around until the mid 1990's but the Eagle Radial was superior and won out in the end.

Yeah, talk about a bad weekend. I guess a sweep like last week at Texas doesn't happen every week, though. And like you said, he did a very good job keeping his cool. I hooe people forgive him soon. Go Kyle!

I was wondering about his weekend myself . Do you think that he has gotten past overdriving his equipment ?

I don't think superman could have changed clothes and "exit stage left" faster then he did. It was probably the best thing he did all weekend, though. I will bet that was a long and miserable ride home for his wife.:D

So I checked the tv guide yesterday to dvr the NNS @ Richmond race on Friday and couldn't find it.
I finally did. Looks like they're taking a backseat to the NFL draft this week.
Guess we're always reminded every now and then who's boss in the sports world.

My totally speculative theory is that Hoosier is probably cheaper for the smaller series.

Also, doesn't Goodyear and NASCAR have a weird deal where the Top 3 teams only "lease" the tires for the weekend?

Hate to see them rub that off in the 600, but hopefully it will still be that kind of race.
I bet the troops will love it. we get to see it every pit stop. So the quicker they wear it off the more u will see new ones in the pits. That arent going round and round at 200mph

For older fans that goto the 500 mile races. Right DP and Johali?
Nah Moe, we just get aisle seats high up on a mezanine level near the, as we oldtimers say, facilities. Thats where my tickets are and I'll bet DPs also. :D

First Montoya is sponsored by Ax then Depend? What's coming next -- sponsorship by a condom company?
